Colors TCG 5th Anniversary - Day 20

[UN]Favorite Characters

Last day, last topic and what better way to finish this than talking about your favorite and/or unfavorite characters? You can make your comment to be any combination of;

♥ talk about 1 favorite male & 1 favorite female
♥ talk about 1 unfavorite male and 1 unfavorite female
♥ talk about 1 favorite female and 1 unfavorite female
♥ talk about 1 favorite male and 1 unfavorite male
♥ talk about 1 favorite male, 1 favorite female, 1 unfavorite male, 1 unfavorite female

What we're going for here is keep it balanced somehow and don't just talk about one character, yes? Comments can be long or short, so feel free to talk as little or much as you want. Also feel free to replace the unfavorite term with something like characters you dislike, or can't stand or whatever works for you. My own favorites are very obvious from this post when you look at the banner & my icon in case you were wondering about the FMA/SNK bias, haha!

Talking about any of those combinations will earn you 1 choice card of a male character, 1 choice card of a female character & fivetastic20 - you're free to log them all into your post as soon as you're done posting your comment here! No need to wait for my replies on this one since it's not screened. If you talk about all four, I'll give you two random crayons along with everything else in my reply to you!

Aaaaaaand that's it for this year's anniversary, I hope all you amazing people had fun through it and thank you so much for participating!♥

...Or well, no this isn't actually the real last day since Raven's going to post Bonus Day tomorrow, so look forward to that too! :D

Like the other anniversary posts, this will close on July 1st at noon GMT!
( also I stole this from Fel's 2013 anniversary post... shamelessly using her amazing ideas, so don't think I came up with this myself! :x )

Okay, as far as favorites go.... I have a lot of favorites, and a lot of times, they tend to be adorable losers that you can't help but love. Or that may just be me. ;w;

The two biggest examples of that for guys at least are Makoto from Free! and Yosuke from Persona 4. 8D They are 100% my favorite characters from their respective series, hands down. Hell, they were two of the first decks I started collecting when I first joined Colors..... a year and some odd days ago wow. Time flies.

For favorites ladies... um. I dunno how I pick favorites out of female characters, honestly! I can't pick out a noticeable trend in my favorite female characters. XD I love Yukiko from Persona 4 to death because she's absolutely adorable when she has those moments with food or when a really dumb joke causes her to laugh til she's red in the face...

And then there's ALL THE MAIN CHARACTERS from Aikatsu in general. I love Akari and Sumire and Hinaki and Juri, along with Yurika, Ichigo, Aoi, Ran, and EVERYONE ELSE. They're all my precious babies and I love them. ;w; And the series itself. I'm so deep in cute Idol Anime Hell and Aikatsu was my gateway drug.

Unfavorites are difficult for me because I actually have a hard time legitimately hating a character! But honestly the first person that comes to mind in that sense would be Matou Shinji. I haaaaaate him, I hate what he did to Sakura, I hate how he acts... I really really don't like him at all. 'x'

I... I don't think I have a female character I hate though. Or at least I can't remember one. I'M TOO NICE I DON'T HATE CHARACTERS OR PEOPLE EASILY..........

I'll take sew05 and stylish02 for my choice cards!

ONE OF MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITES is Gaius from Tales of Xillia!!! In the first game he's this super cool warrior king... Very hands on and committed to helping his people find their way in the world. Incredibly strong and handsome... And despite his stoic demeanor he's very passionate. AND THEN in the second game it's like "oh he's actually a loser idiot on a personal level. He can't figure out technology and can't stand being teased. And he spoils the little girl that tags along with the party because he has big brother urges. SO HE'S IMPRESSIVE BUT ALSO AN ENDEARING DORK.

My real queen is Agent Carolina from Red vs Blue (almost all of the women in that show are great) but as far as eastern media is concerned I love Kohaku from Tales of Hearts!!! It's so rare for me to even like jrpg heroines but Kohaku is just... so great. She doesn't take nonsense from anyone and totally kicks ass... but she's still feminine and emotional at times because protip: YOU DON'T HAVE TO SACRIFICE YOUR FEMININITY TO BE BADASS!!! She's an angel who has a crush on a dumb boy but she doesn't want him to save her, she wants to save the world WITH him. Frick yeah. That's how you write a strong female character.

Taking icecream11 and restore04, please and thank you!!!!

ack I can never pick favorites, there's always too many options. So just off the top of my head...

One of my favorite male characters is Claire Stanfield from Baccano! He's just so...delightful and over the top. I'm not even sure why I like him so much except that it probably doesn't say anything good about me considering he's like, objectively a bad person, pfft. BUT ASIDE FROM THE KILLING THING I mean you know he's totally fine. Definitely.

And one of my fave female characters is Hajime from Gatchaman Crowds. I have a thing for the spunky girl archetype character in ever jrpg lmao (see: Yuffie, Rikku, Vanille, etc...) and Hajime definitely fits the bill there. I just love her enthusiasm and how she tries to make friends with everyone. Also she's super adorable.

For choice cards I'd like tokunaga09, sword06, thanks!

OH MAN, let me go with characters I dislike first. Honestly, it's really hard to make me totally hate someone, I'm usually a fan of most characters from a show. I loathe Gin Ichimaru from Bleach, just seeing his face always pissed me off. As for a female character, I really don't like Ritsuko Akagi from Evangelion. I don't hate her, per se, but I always just found her kind of bland compared to everyone else. FAVORITES AW MAN that I could go on forever with, I think Kyon might be my favorite male character forever though, whoops. I just love his sarcasm and exasperation but he secretly loves everything anyway. As for females, um... Saber from Fate/ is pretty up there. I kind of fell in love with her watching Fate/Zero, she's awesome but still a flawed character, I just find her really interesting.

salaryman20 and foul20 for my choice cards!

ugggghhhh this is so hard

Favorite male is probablyyy Okumura Rin from Ao no Exorcist. He's a shounen protagonist, but a damn good one. Despite being the spawn of Satan, he's one of the most kindhearted, righteous and loyal characters out there. He's a great friend and always tries to do his best as a (twin) big brother to a (twin) little brother who tries to outgrow him. He's got a lot of flaws, but he slowly works them out as he grows up - he's still a dumb teenager, after all. He grows as a person throughout the series so much and it's just absolutely fantastic. He's also a great cook, which is super cute. And good with kids. He's the cutest and dumbest spawn of Satan there is, I'm pretty sure. I love him ridiculously much but I just can't put it into any coherent words ok

Favorite female would be Koizumi Risa from Lovely Complex. ♥ She has a pretty tough setting for a shoujo main character, being a really tall girl in love with a really short guy. I adore her cheerful attitude, her comedy routines with Ootani and the way she just didn't give up in the end. Her expressions are awesome and never fail to make me laugh. I can also relate to her a lot, which is part of why she became my favorite. orz

Least favorite male is Ciel Phantomhive from Kuroshitsuji. I know everything he's been through (I'm up to date with manga, so if everything we have been told been so far is true...). Still, I can't agree with his decisions. The way he treats other people knowing what he has been through makes me dislike him even more. He's a pretty well written bad guy, but I still can't bring myself to feel any sympathy for the monster that he is. It's really bad when I feel that Sebastian is the more humane one out of the two of them.

Least favorite female might forever be Azusagawa Yukino from Yakitate!! Japan, the eldest of the Azusagawa sisters. The one who casually threw Tsukino's mother's ashes against a tree and laughed, for example. Tried to kill all the contestants, for example. Ruined one character's lifelong research, for example. She's just full of hatred and horrible deeds. What a wicked, sick, terrible woman. Disgusting.

All of my favorite characters are female....you just have to look at my decks post to figure that one out. But there are definitely some male characters I've take a liking to as well...

My favorite character period right now is Satsuki Kiryuuin from Kill la Kill. The show is really heavily grounded in the tropes of its characters and plots, and Satsuki manages to hit just about every trope that really speaks to me on a character level. She's really stubborn and serious, but it conceals a really caring person...and she's willing to go to any lengths to achieve her goals - and ends up getting in trouble for going to those lengths. She also has a butler who she treats like family, is a pompous jackass, and has amazing eyebrows. The perfect recipe for my favorite character, tbh.

I like several of the same tropes in male characters, too, but I admit I'm a sucker for soft gentle default boy types like Ryouta Kawara from Hatoful Boyfriend. I like him because he makes such a good friend AND romantic partner for the game's main character, and his hard-workin and giving personality make him really compelling. Plus, he gets to take the lead several times in the two games and side materials, and proves himself to be really formidable as a protagonist! Even if he has to go through the ringer in bad boys love...

For least favorite characters...I also have trouble enjoying utterly reprehensible characters with no redeeming qualities like Ragyo or, say, Ramsay from GoT (wrong medium, but I digress). So I might as well talk about a couple of characters I really dislike for other reasons. I have really low tolerance for the kid gloves some parts of fandom put on for certain bad-doing characters...so I admit my interest in Nagito Komaeda expired fairly early after Dangan Ronpa 2 was released. As a character he's not that offensive to me, but I don't see the positives in him that others do. I find him pitiable but ultimately way more fun to be mad about than to treat tenderly.

I also get fed up with a certain kind of incompetence in sidekick type characters, which is why Candy from Smile Precure is one of the female characters I don't really like. She hits on all the qualities of a fairy partner that I DON'T like, and, like a few other Precure characters, demonstrates very little learning or development and goes back to doing the same frustrating things episode after episode. She's a little bit too cutely accident prone without other balancing qualities.

I'll take bakuzan04 and coolene01 for this one! My kids, etc.
needles: (monaka; dangan ronpa another episode) (it never gets betterˏ it gets worse)

One of my favorite males right now is Ratio from Hamatora! I love how good natured he is -- he's generally serious, but that doesn't stop him from having fun. And he's devoted to his best friend, but that doesn't stop him from doing things that his bff wouldn't agree with. It's a nice mix of contrasts.

Also one of my favorite females right now is Monaka Towa from Dangan Ronpa Another Episode. She's the main villain of the series, and everyone else in the fandom seems to despise her. But I love how unapologically evil and terrible she is. With child characters, especially female child characters, they all seem to follow a set formula? Probably because nobody wants to be an asshole to a child. But she takes all those stereotypes and breaks the fuck out of them, and I love that. Evil shitstain baby.

alrighty let's get to it-

One faaaaaaavourite male? Oooh, this will be difficult, I don't want to be here all night. Okay, let's see...I guess I'll choose Matsuoka Rin because he's the whole reason I ever joined Colours. After many weeks of wheedling from Yun, I made a careless bet that if she chould find a shota rinrin card I'd join this hell. So. Here I am.
But I digress, I guess I love Rin because he's very relatable and personable in my opinion. I can understand his insecurities, and his hopes, as well as the flip sides in his feelings. He doesn't to put on a front, and wears his emotions on his sleeve. It makes me really happy to see him...and I guess part of that is because hE'S BEAUTIFUL OH MY GOD HE IS SO PRETTY AHAHAHAHHA-

Female that I like. What about Mitsuru Kirijo from Persona 3. Who doesn't lie her, hahaha....She's a beautiful, intelligent, responsible and overall amazing girl who grows up to be even more magnificent. She's someone who can be counted on as a leader, and is just....so strong. It's rather impossible to not love the Imperious Queen of Executions- :P

An...unfavourite male....hmm...I can't think of someone I truly dislike but I guess...how about. OH
OH THAT LITTLE PRICK FROM KYOUSOGIGA. KURAMA. SAKE CUP. UGH. floating around in his stupid sake cup all day. He annoys me even though I can understand what his character is going for, it's annoying the way he seems to act like he knows everything without really consulting anyone's opinion. It's....the morally superior, holier-than-thou sort of attitude. Even though I get that he's not really meant to be like that, he certainly comes off like that. And it's annoying.
I guess if I had to choose another more logical dislike....I really dislike Seiya from Saint Seiya. He's the type of shounen protag that takes being a shounen protag too far. I don't like how everything falls into place nicely for him, or how he's so troublesomely stubborn yet everyone forgives hime, or how he pulls miracles from his a-..........mostly I just don't like that all my gold saints keep dying for him lol-
And on that note, I guess that also means Art from Hamatora was not cool in season 2 either. Not cool at all. >:(

Female that I dislike. Can't really think of one off the top of my head but I guess...Miaka Yuki from Fushigi Yugi: The Mysterious Play. She's. Everything in a female protag that I dislike? Her main character trait was her....straightforward, brave, and never-give-up attitude I guess. But, the way she acted the whole series was so....very.....Twilight-esque. It was really annoying, I guess?
also i like hotohori so i am beyond biased ahahha

I'll be taking strain04, silverking20. :3

Favorite male character:
One of my favorites right now is Yoshiki Kishinuma from Corpse Party. I'm incredibly impressed how human he stays despite extreme circumstances the series provides. He's traumatized by his past, constantly rejected and yet he has strenght to protect people he cares about no matter what happens.
Favorite female character:
It would be Charlie Vergier from Rhythm Thief. She's very strong, intelligent and never gives up no matter how many times she fails to catch overpowered protagonist of the series. She's also very proud and values her own independence and I really love her for this. Also, I have a thing for antagonists who becomes the protagonists :')
Least favorite male character:
Sal from Wadanohara and the Great Blue Sea. The single thought of him makes me nauseous so I won't list all the reasons why he's a piece of trash. I'm sure that people who've beaten the game know what I'm talking about :C
Least favorite female character:
Hiyoko Saionji from Danganronpa 2. I'm generally quite empathetic and try to understand all characters but it doesn't apply to Hiyoko. She's a horrible, horrible bully and because of that I don't feel sorry for her no matter how cruel fate she faces.

Choice: sharnoth01 (female), blueeyes01 (male)

I could go with the obvious and talk about the redhead that's plastered all over my everything, but that would be too easy. So, one of my favorite characters is actually Ennis from Baccano!. She's a brilliant mix of skill and social awkwardness, rolled up in a ball of humanity issues. Though Narita is adverse to letting his characters grow and she's remained largely stagnant as a result, the development she does get is fantastic and it's really fun to watch her interact with the other players in the series. I've grown fond of the mock-family bonds that her and Czes have the potential to share.

Which leads directly into my unfavorite male... Firo. He's a terrible character, and a terrible example of a "Nice Guy" who gets the girl because he's nice enough to only be incredibly passive aggressive and throw private tantrums when she proves not to immediately respond to his affections. The extent to which his living with a woman he's lusting after is romanticized is incredibly uncomfortable to me. That's simple decency and far more decent would to not be living with someone who couldn't properly parse or respond to those feelings. It doesn't get any better when one considers that their marriage was formed when she still can't even look at herself as being near human, or that he can't even touch her... But again, romanticized, and it's really creepy. When you add that to Firo's edgelord actions and the poor attempts at making him a main character, I really can't stand him.

I don't know that I have any unfavorite characters; I tend to not actively dislike characters besides idk, unrepentant villains?? And even then it's just like, "Wow, [character]'s a prick," rather than righteous anger or something, lol. Now I'm thinking of super old hate sites like that infamous Sailor Mercury one - holy crap, it's still online!

So I'll just leave it at favorites then! It's hard for me to choose a favorite female character. Sailor Venus is my #1 sentimental favorite, best sailor senshi, etc. But I'll go with Lina Inverse from Slayers since I ended up rewatching a lot of Next a few weeks ago. Lina's brash, greedy, and egotistical, but she's also whip-smart, inventive, and although she may not act like it, she cares deeply for her friends. Not to mention she's voiced by my all-time favorite seiyuu, Megumi Hayashibara.

For a favorite male character, I'll pick Joseph Joestar fom JoJo's! Honestly Joseph is pretty similar to Lina; you could copy+paste his name up there and it'd still fit. I guess I have a type, lol. I love that we get to see Joseph as both a teenager/protagonist and an "old guy"/supporting character. It gives us two different perspectives on the same character. And you've got to love a guy who's constantly throwing out "OH NO" and "OH MY GOD"!

I'll take coffee10 (male) and cold01 (female), thank you!

I already mentioned him in another topic, but my favorite male character is still probably Roxis from Mana Khemia, since he formed a lot of things I came to like in characters, haha. He's actually a really good person, with a good set of morals and works hard, but he's so proud. To the point where he spends so much time trying to best Vayne in a battle, since Vayne is kind of a lo of things Roxis dislikes, and yet earns things Roxis works hard for easily. I just liked their relationship and how Roxis developed to accept him, begrudgingly, haha.

For woman, it's harder because I tend to like every female character... I guess Mikan from Dangan Ronpa. I guess I can see part of myself in her with how she interacts with hoer people, always worrying waaaaay too much about what others thing and going out of my way to apologize or I think they hate me. Mikan is a mess, but I love her. There's other reasons too, but this is definitely a game one shouldn't spoil , so I will refrain.

As for characters I don't like... I actual have a hard time reeeeally disliking a character? At most I'm normally just meh. Even if I dislike them on a moral level in-universe, I might still appreciate them as characters so I don't really count that... Buyout for males... Snow from FFXIII is an exception. I really dislike him but don't really want to go into it as I'll be here awhile. I'm genuinely having issues coming up with a female example.

Taking messhouen14 and sororicide14

Oh no, this question is always so hard to answer.. ;;

♥ talk about 1 favorite male and 1 unfavorite male

I have so many favourites that it feels a bit unfair to talk only one of them. :'D But let's see.. I think I have to choose Toudou Jinpachi from Yowamushi Pedal this time since he's been my favourite boy for a while now (though Matsuoka Rin from Free! is really close to him as well).

I don't have one particular reason why Toudou is so important to me. I really like his personality and especially his relationship with Makishima Yuusuke (I'm still trying to say that I don't ship them at all but it's a bit hard at times ;;). Yowamushi Pedal's art style isn't very beautiful but I still love Toudou's style to bits and his habit to collect hairbands is cute and funny at the same time.

He can be a silly dork at times but at least he's a cute dork. ♥

And what comes to the male character I don't like.. Hmm.. There is many options actually but I think I say Colorless King from [K] to this because he was the one who killed my number #1 husband Totsuka Tatara. I don't need any other reason and I don't care about the fact that Tatara's death was "needed" so that the story could start.. (òxó)9

My favourite male is Takeo Gouda from Ore Monogatari!! Despite having the scariest of appearances, his kind-hearted nature shines through in all his actions, and he never asks for credit, even when it's mistakenly given to his good-looking best friend, Suna. He also wears his heart on his sleeve which makes him really easy to read.

My favourite female is Fumi Kanno from Devil Survivor 2 (the game, not the anime, pls). She's my spirit animal - a scientist who dedicates her life to research. I generally dislike social interaction in favour of contemplation and work, so her mannerisms are pretty cathartic - she's very incisive when it comes to telling people they're wrong or that they should go somewhere else, but deep down you know she isn't malicious, just work oriented. In fact, she's nice and protective of those she care about. Not to mention what she does to Trumpeter when he didn't want to cooperate, hehe. Go look it up on Youtube or something xD

I'd like logic20 and bauxite16 please!

my favorite male character is probably matsuoka rin. it was love at first promotional image tbh, and he was the rival? done and done i was all in. by the end of the first season he was my fave character and one who i over-idenitfied with. i loved his character development, his struggle with his self esteem and depression felt very real to me on a personal level and it really meant a lot to see his growth in the second season. taking responsibility for his actions, thanking rei for letting him swim in the relay and going out his way to help him. how much he grew into a great captain. how much happier he was. i love this romantic crybaby so much. and as someone who loved sharks since i was a kid, i'm thrilled by his canon shark motif lmao.

there's not a lot of characters i hate, i tend to be more apathetic towards certain characters or it's fandom (or exes) that ruin a character for me. though there are character types/tropes that i dislike or that completely bore/annoy me. protags who are born winners or the chosen one, hotblooded idiot heroes, chronic hero syndrom + talking the monster to death, overpowered protags who cannot be stopped, etc. lmao i dunno i guess i'm really picky about protagonists, especially male protags from shounen or sports anime lmao ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

i stuck with naruto as long as i could but never actually finished it because i was pretty much over the titular character (it didn't help i was completely spoiled by the epilogue and nope'd so hard). i ended up dropping knb for a couple of reasons including the fact that it just felt like seirin was way past godmode and it wasn't even worth reading about if other characters i cared about were thrown under the bus and were destined to lose based on the fact that they weren't the protag team. (you know, like every rival team in every sports anime. it's hard being a rival stan lmao i'm still so upset about seijou's loss ;__; but there's knb's writing and literally every other sports series i've read/watched so.)
