Advent Calendar, Day 7!

So, Colors, what are your thoughts on wish lists at the holidays? Do you make them and secretly email them to people? Do you swear off making lists of things you'd like to receive? What's the number one thing on your list this year?

This will be short and simple - reply with your thoughts, and take one choice card numbered 07. I'll also give you a random crayon!

This will end along with the other Advent Calendar activities.

(My apologies for the crappy banner; I'll remake it when I'm not feeling ill.)

I don't really make a wishlist, but it was something I did as a child! A funny story: one of my students asked me for help because she wanted to write her wishlist in English (English is not my first language and I teach English to little kids) and I thought it was the sweetest thing ever, but of course her parents were a little nervous about it because they don't know English haha. In the end she wrote the greetings in English and the actual wishes in Spanish so all ended well.

I don't really make wishlists, because whatever I want, I tend to find a way to obtain it myself. Which means that anything left on any wishlist I create would be pretty darn expensive and that would be asking for too much as a gift. If I did make a wishlist though, I guess my number one item is to get a desktop computer. My laptop is dying really slowly on me, and I'm afraid it won't last past my next term of university.

When I was younger I used to make Christmas lists with ridiculous stuff on them (one year I asked for a pet ferret?? did I really think my parents were going to buy me a ferret what the heck I was an optimistic child). My mom still asks me and my siblings for Christmas lists haha but I usually only put a couple things on them, like a video game and a book or something.

I made wishlists when I was a child (and they were usually quite long... ^^'), but these days I'm not doing them. I try to come up with something, if someone asks, but even that isn't always so easy. If I really want something, I usually end up buying it myself. I guess I'm getting old, one of the people, to whom it was always so hard to decide a present, haha.

I usually make a wishlist, just because my family doesn't buy me the stuff I really want... a.k.a. anime, LOL. So Christmas for me is usually asking for things I need but don't want to buy myself... which works out just as well! Although, my family does get me video games, so I usually get a few fun gifts. I just use Amazon.

I make wishlists... but then I end up filling them out for myself, so it's more like a shopping list I guess. :|a My family's pretty bad about physical gifts, so it's easier to just get what I want myself with whatever Christmas money I get.

I'm not big on wishlists, mostly because I don't usually receive gifts from that many people! I pretty much just get in touch with people and discuss what gifts we'd like to give each other. It takes out the element of surprise, but it's just easier than messing around with lists.

I despise making a wishlist, lol. I just can never come up with enough stuff to really fill it out right off the bat. Despite that though, my mom demands we make one every year (and then proceeds to get everything on it...) so I always end up struggling through it about halfway through December.

I definitely like when other people make wishlists, because I am terrible at picking out gifts. :( When it comes to myself, my grandma used to ask me for a wishlist, and for work we all made wishlists, so I kind of like that guarantee. And then my mom has surgery on CHristmas Eve, so I just want her to be safe and recover well.

I like getting wish lists from other people, because I like getting something I know they want than just guessing, but I'm terrible at making them myself—namely, because there's never really anything I want. /o\ This year, I asked for Pokemon Alpha Sapphire from my oldest sister (purposely didn't buy it just so that I could ask for it from someone for Christmas, aha) and now I'm struggling to come up with more stuff since the rest of my family wants to know, welp.

I keep several wishlists on Amazon, but they are mostly for my own benefit, when I decide to purchase a new book or CD or something. I think my number one thing for this year I have already purchased for myself, a Nintendo 3DS. But I mostly love doing the shopping for other people anyway.

We do wishlists haphazardly in my family... Me and my mom both try to like get some wishlist stuff and some ideas of our own! Because getting stuff you ask for is fun but so is being surprised!!!

I think the thing I'm looking forward to most off of my wishlist is the seasons 11 & 12 DVDs for Red vs Blue! My most recent favorite show.

I loved to make lists as a kid, including cutting the pictures out of magazines and catalogs JUST BECAUSE, but it's definitely something I grew out of with age. I've had to start doing them again though because my family-in-law always hounds me for them, so ugh! And double-ugh since it seems to get harder to make them with age too. (Plus I'd much rather be surprised with something, but apparently I'm "hard to know," haha.) This year, my main thing is a new standing jewelry box, since my old one from childhood was destroyed the last time I moved. ;(

I don't really make wishlists— my birthday is actually this month and I don't celebrate Christmas but honestly maybe I should just as like a "these are the sorts of things I enjoy" ... thing? I feel like I'm not picky but I think a total lack of pickiness can be a problem.

I make wishlists for my parents, but that's about it. They always ask me what I want for Christmas, and then when I start to tell them, they go "NO, JUST RIGHT IT DOWN" so it's basically tradition to write down a wishlist for my mom and dad in case they forget/don't know what they're looking for (it's almost always the latter though).

For my friends or other family members, though, I don't. I just appreciate whatever they give me (and most of the time it's gift cards, anyway) c:

My number one thing on my list this year is a PS4 ... orz

I haven't made a wishlist in years, but sometimes give family and friends specific ideas if they ask. Whenever possible, I like trying to surprise my friends and family with something unexpected, or with something they mentioned wanting and then forgot! otoh, it's also nice to give someone a gift they really want, even when it's not a surprise.

I used to make wishlists when I was younger, but I stopped making them for some reason. I guess making them would be a good idea even now! I do tell my family every now and then if there's something specific that I want, but keeping a list would make it easier for them to follow my wishes... But somehow I feel like it's a bit childish to keep a list at my age? Or rude, maybe? It's weird. It would make it a lot easier for me if my family made lists too and sent them to me before Christmas and I could pick what to buy/make for them so I don't see why I couldn't do that, but somehow it just doesn't feel right.

This year I wished for money and things that would be useful during my trip to Japan. Stuff that I'll need during the flight etc. My number one wish was a big suitcase and my parents bought it for me, so obviously making wishes pays off. C:

I used to put together elaborate wishlists for my friends at the holidays when I was in college - now I sort of just ask for money. XD I tend to get into things on a whim and I love picking stuff out for myself, also it saves the awkwardness if I'm bashful about a fandom thing when I'm talking to a family member or something. When it comes to other people, though, I love finding that perfect gift that says I know them.

I'm of two minds, to be honest—I don't make wishlists and I don't generally like to buy off them, since I'd rather surprise someone with something they really want and don't expect, but at the same time, it's much easier to get things you may be happy with or get use out of when you make a list.

I did not have any number one thing, but my beloved did get me this beautiful necklace, which set me sobbing. :D The author's been favourite for going on ten years and the book series as a whole means the world to me, so to be one of the few who owns the only officially sanctioned merchandise makes me so happy.

I don't make lists anymore now that I'm older but when my cousins and I were younger we would to make present buying easier on our various relative. I also feel really awkward now asking for presents because there is really nothing that I ever specifically want that I haven't already gotten for myself.
