Other Worlds/Universes

What are some of your favourite anime/manga/game universes? Bearing in mind the traditional answer amongst everyone I know is "I'd love to live in the Pokémon utopia where all problems can be solved by a ten-year-old", are there any you'd like to live in? Are you excited by the novelty of constantly dying and being resurrected as a lowly human in DragonBall Z? Perhaps you'd rather be offered the opportunity to become a magical girl, or to revolutionize the world!

Are there any worlds you're perhaps not a fan of but can praise for their creativity? What about aspects of other worlds that really make you think—perhaps there really are spirits living all around us, even if they aren't exactly mushi. Maybe you'd even enjoy having demons living in your cell phone!

I can think of a lot of visually or conceptually stunning game worlds that would be amazing to live in, if not for all of the monsters and end-of-the-world-as-we-know-it plots, haha. If I had to pick one, though, it would probably be Rune Factory - it's a good mix of fantasy, magic, and fighting with nice, quiet village living. Also, pet monsters!

I think what appeals to me most about Rune Factory, though, is that the player's village is always an important factor, and it doesn't get destroyed or left behind to further character development or to thrust the main character out into the world...? I like that Rune Factory places a lot of emphasis on making the village your new home and earning the trust of your neighbours in order to progress, as opposed to YOUR VILLAGE HAS BEEN DESTROYED AND EVERYONE YOU LOVE IS DEAD/YOU'VE TRANSGRESSED AND NOW YOU MUST LEAVE EVERYTHING YOU EVER KNEW... time to go on an adventure to save the world! :D

Legend of Mana would also be a cool universe to live in; the protagonist's house is awesome enough on its own, but Fa'diel in general is an interesting world with a lot going on and an interesting approach to spirits.

I'd like to live in the Accel World universe! I don't really care for having the acceleration program installed, but I really love the fact that everyone has a super computer installed in their brains and they can interact with both the world and the computer at the same time! I can't really think of anything else right now...

I think the world I'd like to live in the most is definitely the Animal Crossing world ... just because it's so peaceful, and I'd like earning money to be that simple. Then again that would probably be really boring after a while... there are lots of fictional worlds that are so fascinating but I'd also be scared to live in them I think. Maybe Cardcaptor Sakura? Or a magical girl universe where things generally turn out okay in the end.

So i won't be the nth person to mention Pokemon... Most of the fictional worlds that aren't almost identical to the real world i can think of aren't really a great place to live in... I love all kinds of cyberpunk settings but living there would be terrible. Maybe the world in Gintama? Not really safe... but at least different enough to be interesting. Taking yuri19!

Fullmetal Alchemist, perhaps. It's a very scary world, though: War, genocide, human experimentation, creepy Homunculus, conspiracy shit, and GODDAMN SHOU TUCKER. Those are only a few of the things that I can think of on the top of my head that makes me not want to pick this fictional world to live in. But, even though it's not a perfect world (and I have, like, a 1% chance of surviving), I would love to learn how to do alchemy. I think it would be worth it.

I really enjoy the world of Code Geass with its divergent history and I'm a big fans of sweeping fantasy epic lands like the ones in Escaflowne and Legend of the Legendary Heroes. I really enjoy when settings kind of have their own personality and character. The world of Berserk is like this too and probably another one of my favorites. And of course the fascinating worlds within worlds layout of Kingdom Hearts.

I think I'd want to live in Japan period lol so I would lean towards something found in say Persona 4. A quaint little house out in the country. Quiet, clean and yet spooky at the same time. XD But another part of me loves anything set in a futuristic Tokyo and way too many series come to mind... Though IF I could pick an anime/manga to actually be in it would come down to Fushigi Yuugi or Fruits Basket.

It's kind of geeky, but I kind of like the world in Summer Wars. Mostly because of Oz...and I know there's a bit of commentary about social media and security in there, but what stood out to me is being able to communicate with people so freely. The whole translation of your words into different languages instantly was so novel to me. Idk, I just thought that was really cool and I just hope that some technology like that would be developed soon.

Other than that, I don't think there's a world I would really wanna live in. Ok, so maybe I always wanted to be a ninja...

i guess if i have to choose one, it'll stereotypically be pokemon.. because pokemon! alternatively.....kingdom hearts? it would be cool to be able to jump world to world and meet new friends along the way o/ plus wielding a keyblade is a+ in my book.

I don't even care man, I am also going to have to say Pokémon. Everything is so wonderfully happy, and there are so many fascinating things that could be achieved through co-operation between humans and Pokémon, particularly for people who are differently abled in some manner. I love you Pokémon universe.

I'm trying to think of another world I could mention now, and certainly there are plenty of fictional places or universes that I really enjoy thinking about. But few of them really hold any particularly exciting allure - or rather, the positive tends to be offset by some hideously dramatic negative. That being said, living in the Tales of Graces world would probably be kind of exciting in that sort of ridiculous 'consequences don't exist!' sort of way. I mean, if I'm going to live in some sort of stupid RPG world, that'd be the one I think.

I don't think I'd like to be in any series I'm into, they'd all be pretty scary and I'm a total weakling. The only ones that would be vaguely safe tend to be high school based and I've had enough of that to last a life time!

Obligatory favorite universe is Digimon! I definitely wouldn't want to live in it, because I don't think I could handle having to deal with monsters or be partnered with one that had to fight and kill things, sob. But I definitely enjoy the way the Digital World is portrayed, and I really like the bonds are shown between humans and their partners. And I also get a giant laugh out of things like a world where all the fights are handled by spinning tops or card games or some other silly thing (and even used to try to take over said world). One of those probably wouldn't be too awful to live in, for the most part, haha.

I think Fairy Tail would be a really fun universe to be in, though - although that could just be my weakness for magic.

All the Final Fantasy worlds. Just all of them. They are all just gorgeous and everytime I play one of the games I really just want to visit! At the moment, I think Eorzea is my favorite FF world...I'm sure that's due to my current obsession with Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn

I like the kingdom hearts worlds, because they're both beautiful and filled with horrors. I also like the islands from One Piece because they all have different seasons and vegetation, and some are horribly dangerous while others are tame as a puppy. and I also like the cities from Naruto, because they're so simple and yet filled with things to explore

I would love to live on Neo Venezia from the Aria series! It'd be great to live in a world where all of life's problems can be solved with friendship, food, and magical cats. Taking a relaxing gondola ride through the canals while gazing at a beautiful sunset... tbh I'd probably live in any iyashikei series, lol.

I also wish I could live in Cooking Mama world. I'd always have all the ingredients on hand to make any dish, from shrimp tempura to panna cotta to homemade peanut butter. All recipes would take a maximum of five minutes to make (five minute kimchi, yum), and the dishes would magically clean themselves. So basically, cooking heaven.

I've been told that if you call me in the middle of the night
I start blubbering about how all life's problems could be easily solved if I was a Gold Saint of Sanctuary
and then deteriorate into a sobbing mess
so I guess there's some subliminal desire within me to live fast and die young in an extraordinarily shounen battle of friendship and stardust, and probably have my very existence blown out of every dimensional plane while all my bones are completely shattered for the sake of some woman who I've probably spoken 3 sentences to my whole life.

...besides my subconscious desire for dramatic martyrdom, I really like futuristic worlds, but not ones so far that everyone and their dog is a cyborg. Just...slightly post-apocalyptic is fine by me. Now, STOP. That has to be one of the most accurate descriptions of Saint Seiya i've seen recently. In fact when Raven and I got Brave Soldiers, he was wondering who our friend who usualy mains all the old people in fighter games will play as since everyone is so young...

i'd really love to live in final fantasy x's world of spira, that place is just so damn pretty. during the eternal calm, of course. i'm not quite that masochistic. by that token i'd also like to live in reize maxia from tales of xillia! i love pretty places. think of the photography opportunities!!

It be fun to live in one of the Atelier settings so I could be an alchemist! I would seriously probably jump on that chance, haha. For other worlds... I always though Ar tonelico's setting was always really detailed, but I'm not sure I'd want to live in it. Being a reyvateil would be fun if you were one, but only if you're full blooded since being a 3rd Gen (part human) isn't really fun since you die early and have to use painful life extending agents every 3 months. Being a normal human in that setting would be boring though! /o\

The Baten Kaitos would might be nice! You get wings and the settings are so pretty, but also really fantastical. Like the city made out of candy and sweets, though that's located on the weirdest island, haha. Anuenue would be fun to live on. It's based on Hawaii and it's super pretty and colorful!

The Suikoden world always has a great mythos and wonderful settings, but I think it's also one I wouldn't want to live in since the interesting stuff always happen when a war is going on! But living a normal, peaceful life in a Suikoden city may not be so bad since they tend to look really nice! I find a lot of the settings I love may not be the best places to live, haha.

the city's are so gorgeous it almost makes up for being invaded by militia dictatorship. I mean, we get wings. But I'm pretty sure I'd get the short stick and have the dinkiest wings ever......

I think Lita's onto something by mentioning the .hack universe. I could enjoy a nice video game with minimal risks of coma or death...and go about my business outside the game as I so pleased! And I'd do the Pokemon thing too...like everyone...yeah. Pokefriends! I could be a rad Pokemon breeder or something.

Of course, lie everyone else I like series where the universes are just like...not...conducive...to living happy, long, fulfilling lives. And I have never considered myself a really remarkable person, so I'd probably even be a background character in those kinda sad universes. It's rough!

...Oh! The alternate universe Earth as presented in Read or Die. I could live there. Though sadly I doubt I'd be wrapped up in any book-related intrigue. I can dream...
