COLORS CHAT #8

again by the lovely Casey.

It's time to sit back, relax, and pour yourself and ice cold glass of... milk. All these games are so great and fun but everyone needs a chance to just unwind and talk. So welcome to Colors Chat!

Here, you will get a topic and you can talk about it all you want. For cards, however, your initial post will need to be six sentences. Just listen to your heart and write what you feel like. For your six sentences, you'll get 5 cards. And you should always go around and talk to people, see if you can make new friends or old friends with new light on them or you know, just talk with everyone! It is a chat after all.

Today's topic:

Let's talk about love! In particular, I wanna talk about your ships. Your friendships, your relationships, your hateships. ...I do of course mean in fandom! Tell me about how much you adore Mario and Princess Peach or how much you think Wario and Daisy would make the bestest best friends of all time. No ship bashing here, no need to put down other ships to bring up your own.

For this game there's a super special set of prizes. For each comment before the end of the day on February 14th (11:59:59 pm MST), you will get one red crayon!

If those prizes weren't cool enough, then here's something else. Talk about one ship (friend, love, hate) in particular. Make it as long as you want. If they are in colors, you will get two random cards, one from each of their decks, in addition to your other prizes. WOW.

Please keep all comments civil and polite. You might disagree with someone, but please do not start a flame war. THANK YOU and enjoy your weeks!

^p^ Im really into Kaijou (yugioh) since i was like 10 (my first couple?!) so like 12 years now hahaha orz thats really my main ship. I like all kinds of ships , like um Harry x Cybil(or Lisa) (Sient Hill) and Billy x Rebecca and Leon x Ada (Biohazard) uu but never as serious as Yugioh I think (or im not sure? hahaha) but those are my main ships ^p^ I dont really have any hate ships really. If i dont like a ship as a romance, i tend to be okay with a friendship!

Oh I love shipping. My favorite thing to ship are the "rivals". I love the intensity between the characters. Usually one of them is an impulsive loud mouth while the other is a quiet/snarky loner. And while their personalities are so different their intensity in their rivalry let's them complement each other. Most often the stronger the rivalry the more I ship them.

On the other hand I also love best friend relationships as friendships. In almost the opposite way as my romantic ships I find the best friend characters as having similar personalities. They match each other in a way that others can't. And I enjoy having them stay friends and not ship them because I like seeing characters that close without needing there to be a romantic influence.

Gender doesn't really matter with me though I actively ship(aka go out looking for and reading fics) guy/guy. If I don't pair the guy with his rival I'm a big sucker for cannon relationships (especially in Shoujo). My latest fandom ship that has decks and I haven't already finished one half of the pair is Morgiana & Alibaba from Magi. I think they're cute together and they complement each other. Morgiana is the quiet one while Alibaba is the more impulsive, but they're both awkward and caring.

I am kind of boring in that if canon gives me a ship, generally I'll roll with it. It is actually kind of rare that I ship anything super hardcore though! IF YOU WANT ME TO SHIP HARDCORE, GIVE ME A ROLEPLAY PAIR, I have a lot of those ships, and it's kind of gross. Also the kind of pairs I like in general are gross. OT3s are my weakness, cry.

Ships I'm NOT that much of a fan of are the ones where characters are too much alike or rivalshipping or partner-esque type of pairs (though there are always exceptions). I think I prefer there to be a push-pull kind of factor and if they're too similar or on equal footing, I don't get that dynamic! These types tend to equally share their qualities and that does not excite me in particular. However, I can totally see why people WOULD ship them (good chemistry, just fun to watch, OTHER PEOPLE HAVE COVERED THIS etc.) and certainly, every once in a while, I can enjoy a good rivalship. 'w'

I WILL JUST RANDOMLY BABBLE ABOUT ONE OF MY SHIPS NOW AND THAT IS CHIHAYA AYASE AND MASHIMA TAICHI FROM CHIHAYAFURU. This is one of the few ships that I watched on teevee and instantly attached myself to it. I actually normally hate the DUDE PINES FOR GIRL BUT GIRL NEVER NOTICES HIM!!!! trope, but I think it's kinda cuter cuz he doesn't get super butthurt over it so much as like "sigh, this is who she is tho". AND they support each other throughout playing Karuta together and it is just gross and feelings and gross, MAYBE I'LL LEARN TO STOP USING THE WORD GROSS.

Also, why don't we chat over a cup of coffee, and I'll tell you what I really ship? ;)

...My english is terrible sorry

Uh, I like many kind of ships, it's hard to choose an OTP for me. I suppose the ships I like the most are the unhealthy ships, oops? Like the one where person a sacrifices everything and will do everything for person b. Or the one where they're both happy in the start, but suffer in the end. Though I like fluffy ships too. Like sisters that get in fights often, but they still love and care about each other.
One of ship I like is Totori and Meruru from Atelier ...I want a free meruru card. They're sweet. I like that one scene where Meruru get really upset because Totori is leaving her, even though Totori only leaves for one day hahaha... And the one where Meruru said she want Totori to be her teacher forever. Totori and Meruru are cute together ok

...ngl Byakuren and Assassin actually sounds kinda cool.

(it's fun to think of the weirdest but still kinda functional crossover ships for RP okay)

I have lots of ships! Most of them don't necessarily fall into a specific pattern—well, except my femmeslash ships, oddly enough, in which case there is a very distinct trend of "two girls who outwardly appear opposites but are fundamentally similar on an internal level"... Shh... But generally, if I find a pairing to have chemistry, I'll ship it. Generally I gravitate only towards ships that—at least as far as I'm concerned—have a strong basis in canon (unless we're counting RP ships), though there are a couple of exceptions. I really like pairings of equals—and I definitely tend to love pairings with friction, ones that argue a lot but care deep down.

For specific pairings... Let's go with Kyoko/Sayaka from Puella Magi Madoka Magica! They fit in the above trend for femmeslash ships I have. I love how they work as foils for each other, and despite all their conflict, Kyoko really understood her and cared about her enough to die with her. I haven't really been keeping up with the new Madoka material, but the fact that we get to see them just being cute friends together in a lot of it makes me so happy, because it was always sad that they never got the chance in the series proper.

this is difficult for me since i have an armada of sooo many ships??? i'm a multishipper TO THE MAX??? so choosing just one "type" of ship and then especially one ship itself is... crumples to the floor in cardiac arrest....

since i haven't mastered either the 3rdchild or tabris decks, i'll go ahead and discuss...

KAWOSHIN

i like ships that are either a) gross, b) tragic, c) no seriously why or d) all of the above. kawoshin falls under b and c respectively (but admittedly it could probably go into a territory.)

what do you get when you mix an emotionally and psychologically traumatized 14 year old who is commonly fan-diagnosed with depression with an albino perfect loving gentle angel (literally) alien boy with a strange love of classical music?

a literal rainbow piano montage because they needed to shove the gay down your throat up to the hilt, that's what. at least, in the rebuilds. in the original series you get an awkward shared bath scene and sweet shared room scene and a literal declaration of love, which apparently wasn't enough to convince some folks, hence the rainbow piano, i guess. but! in either the rebuilds or original series you still get declarations of love and smooth pickup lines and a grizzly demise and lots and lots of crying.

it's just a really sweet and tragic ship and a+ would recommend for all masochists. it's also really ironic considering eva is sort of considered a harem anime with 3 main sexy lady love interests and shinji goes for the dude, so there's that

to summarize,

thank you and good night

pretty much all my ships involve best friends, childhood friends, or king-knight relationships. i LOVE friend ships where the characters are long-time close friends whose relationship progresses smoothly to romance -- like, they start dating For Real, but they were already basically married, so there's no actual change in their relationship. i like "they seem like an old married couple" ships in general!

as far as familial relationships go, families that have been separated/experienced abandonment always interest me. it's nice when series explore feelings of abandonment and resentment as well as relief and happiness when families reunite, rather than focusing solely on "we're together now so everything's alright"; physical and emotional distance in families can be really difficult, so i'm glad to see parent-child or sibling-sibling relationships where the "abandoned" party has mixed feelings instead of the more straightforward "completely happy ending" option.

uhh specific ships....... i recently watched the gundam age memory of eden ova, which takes the second story arc of the series and turns it into a two hour romantic drama about asemu asuno and zeheart galette. zeheart is supposed to be spying on asemu and becomes friends with him for that purpose, but they end up becoming genuinely close friends, to the point that they're still deeply emotional over each other 20+ years later. even after ultimately betraying asemu, zeheart is still concerned for his best friend's well-being, and tries to persuade him not to fight because he doesn't want to hurt him (and because he knows asemu is too kind and gentle for war). at one point, they get into a situation where they work together to stop a disaster, and they're convinced that they're both going to die in the process......... so in what they believe are their last moments, they talk about how much they care about each other and how they still see each other as friends and respect each other, even though they've been fighting..... and then they smile and hold hands........ yeah......... ... . . .. . . . . . ship

I'm weird about ships- sometimes I ship the canon ship, sometimes I don't! I also am like this about fandom ships- I don't always agree with whatever is the popular canon pairing among the fandom/fanartists, and there's some that I don't get at all, hahaha; it's complicated?? At the same time, I have weird ships myself, so I can't exactly speak.

As for other relationships... I like family relationships! JRPGs seem intent on breaking up families like crazy lmao. I like sibling bonds especially, as well as parent-child ones, even if the characters aren't actually related. Friendships are always great as well, and the power of friendship is an awesome thing o/ I like it when everyone manages to put their differences aside in the end and get along and save the day and whatnot, okay.

Uhh as for ship I want to talk about... the one pairing I really adore doesn't have a deck for one of the characters, so I'll talk about... Velvet and Gwendolyn from Odin Sphere! (this gets kind of spoilery)

The two of them are half-sisters, though neither of them are aware of this at first, and while they're technically on opposing sides of the war, Velvet comes to care a lot for her younger sister's well-being, and worries for her as well. Gwendolyn in return, despite being jealous that Odin (their dad) doesn't love her as much as he does Velvet, saves her from being executed, and helps her escape, despite this being considered treason. Admittedly, she does this mostly because she knows their dad would be pretty upset if Velvet died, but still.

I LOVE SHIPPING! I usually go for the ships in canon just because the canon often makes me fall in love with its own ships, but then of course sometimes I disagree or have too many options for someone or find better things from crossovers. ( shipping Hoshina Utau from Shugo Chara with Jinguji Ren or a few others from original Starish is one of my favorite things in rp ever. ) I also love rivalries and friendships (so many in all amazing magical girl and idol series, like my favorite akb0048 girls yuuko and chieri being friendly rivals!)

But let's talk about one that I'm really excited to play in the world of rp soon! Roy Mustang & Riza Hawkeye from Fullmetal Alchemist manga / brotherhood canon. I really love the relationship between these two about as much as I love Ed's relationship with Winry. They trust each other completely, they can get through anything together / come up with brilliant tactics whenever plans don't work. Their loyalty for each other is wonderful and moments of calling her his queen + saying he calls her riza when they're alone are so precious, when they're mostly acting like people act in a purely professional, not really interested in that man / woman, relationship. Yet they can still say things to each other honestly and straight, knowing the other will understand why they're doing so. I really love them, and I should rewatch or read this series and focus on them this time. And I still want to think that Roy calls her Riza when they're alone, even though Riza said it was a lie. But it was the cutest lie and sounded like the truth whenever they're completely alone♥

I can enjoy a variety of ships, as long as there's not a huge age gap or any other situation that would make one person more powerful in the relationship than the other. Basically, I need the characters to be able to work witch each other and view each other as equals, more or less. That doesn't mean I'll automatically hate all ships between characters of different social standings, power levels etc, I just need the canon to show me that despite these differences, the "stronger" character doesn't look down on the other person.

Specific pairing, you say... I'm going to say Fate and Nanoha from Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha (their decknames are zanber and breaker respectively), a femslash ship because I ship an awful lot of femslash ships orz. They start out as enemies and become really close friends, they keep in touch despite being separated for a time and later in adulthood live together and have an adopted daughter

I'm a total dirty shipper when the series allows for it. I do tend to be a little biased towards canon stuff, but a lot of times in the fandoms I'm most dedicated to, it's whatever I have a good experience playing out aha. That said, I have a weak spot for kind of 'knightly' romances—stuff where you've got one character kind of selflessly devoted to the other. Lots of sacrifice and understanding on both ends.

On the total other side of the spectrum I love angst and stuff therefore stuff that's doomed to A) not work out due to external circumstance, or B) self-destruct. So stuff where one half of the pair dies, some dysfunction/power dynamics/personal flaws blowing things up, or whatever else :') I guess a good example is that I ship Annie/Eren from AoT because they respect each other (it's not romantic, just interesting), but there's just a lot of tragic shit surrounding their circumstances.

Overall I try not to talk about ships too much because it seems like such a touchy subject (there's several that I love but will take to the grave with me), but I have a bunch of paired decks going on for a reason :V love love love platonic/friend/rival ships too, especially people who bicker or butt heads a lot.

ALSO from a purely stupid aesthetic standpoint, height differences are hella cute.

Generally, I'm not a huge fan of het ships - there are a lot I like but I think the only one to really hit OTP status (I have a lot of OTP's and I just consider an OTP my favorite pairing from that series) is Jacuzzi/Nice from Baccano! I really like, I guess, non-traditional dynamics? And it's relatively rare that I'll ship something canon unless it's really well done and really well written rather than something forced and thrown in there because obviously no character is complete without a romance, right? When it comes to m/f ships I really, really prefer close friendships and strong bonds that are like family. I think those kinds of relationships mean just as much as anything romantic.

I ship way more m/m and f/f because I suppose I can relate to those pairings more, being queer myself, and I definitely admit that I love blatant subtext. My OTP of OTP's is Alvin/Jude from Tales of Xillia - There are plenty of tropes that I love in shipping, and Alvin/Jude is an example of a ship that is pretty (really) messed up on an emotional level but there's so much hope and love there anyway, and there's so much headcanon to think about. I like characters who can help each other overcome strong obstacles.

Another thing about shipping is that I'm a terrible multishipper. It is so, so rare for me to ship a character with two (or more) different people because I get way too attached to pairing them with that one other person. I know so many people can multiship everything under the sun but I just... can't. NO, THESE TWO NEED TO BE TOGETHER FOREVER, NO ONE ELSE!!!!

I have a major soft spot for OT3s. Takuto/Wako/Sugata in Star Driver, Sora/Riku/Kairi and Axel/Roxas/Xion in KH. I'm trying to figure out if there are any other patterns to other pairings I super ship... If someone else has an idea, feel free to suggest it, cause I'm drawing a blank. Some of them include: Battler and Beatrice from Umineko, Sakura and Aoi from Dangan Ronpa, Gundam and Sonia from Dangan Ronpa 2, Madoka and Homura, as well as Sayaka and Kyouko from Madoka. ...Okay, so far I keep listing pairings that are freakin' tragic. Sob... Or possibly just canons that are freakin' tragic. Let's see if I can add some non-tragic ones... Anthy and Utena, from SKU (depending on interpretation of tragicness, I guess...). Kanji and Naoto from Persona 4 (there we go! totally not tragic! surprisingly for a technically SMT game.)

Wow, I need more guy/guy ships.

As for talking in detail about a particular ship, let's talk Gundam and Sonia. I love how they're both deeply quirky and weird individuals (more obvious on his end than on hers, but it's very much there on hers), and how they really, genuinely, wholeheartedly dig each other's weirdness. I love how much they clearly respect and just plain like one another. I love how they're both good at heart but not 100% squeaky clean people. I also love looking at fanart of them playing with fuzzy animals. What can I say, I like fuzzy animals. :)

I ship a ton of stuff, everything from friendships to relationships. I'm not big on hateships though. My favorites are pairings with canon basis (actual couples or people with deep connections and some chemistry) and strong canon friendships... Though the line between friendship and romantic relationship is kind of thin in my opinion. I have a lot of fanon ships too, but shipping canon stuff is the easiest, because I'll actually get some sort of confirmation from the series itself.

One of my ultimate favorites is the relationship between Risa and Ootani from Lovely Complex. It's very complex (heh) as they start out as friends and their relationship deepens very slowly. They're almost best friends and their friendship is beautiful. Once they developed romantic feelings for each other, they became probably the dumbest couple I've ever seen... in a good way! There's so much happiness and warmth in their relationship, it feels very natural. Their decks are tall and umibozu!

CONFESSION: I AM A DIRTY SHIPPER.

I'm filthy. I'm horrible. I am a monster--a shipping monster. I love romantic relationships, friendships, family relationships. OT3s. Unhealthy relationships that can be examined both critically and enjoyably. I love examining how people work together in fiction! it's my favorite part of media consumption and of writing. I think a ship really works for me (of any flavor) is when one person in the relationship has something they rely on the other person for--not in a life-altering way, but even something as simple as only showing that other person a certain part of their personality.

But if I am into shipping it romantically, then I REALLY ship it romantically. I'll go all the way. Hardcore OTP-touting (but I'm also a multishipper). Most of the pairings I get into end up being F/F: I watch a lot of media with primarily female casts and also I just find myself more invested in female characters and their interactions with each other.

It's hard to narrow it down to just one ship, but I have been thinking about this one A LOT lately: I really love the dynamic that Madoka Kaname and Sayaka Miki from Madoka Magica have. Depending on the circumstances, I definitely ship them, but what makes them so appealing to me is that they have an amazing relationship no matter what it is. They are sooooo close and really...happy when they are around each other, which I think sometimes gets lost in everything else that happens in that series. And they're willing to do a lot for each other; I think they understand each other in a way that people who have known each other for a long time do. Also Sayaka is such a like, enormous goober...around Madoka. What a cute child.
