Anniversary Day 17

Day seventeen, so soon! Thank you all so much for your eager participation, and I hope you've been having fun posting! Particular welcomes to all our new players in the Red Ribbon Army - it's great to have you all! If you ever do find yourself with any questions please feel free to PM me or any of the other mods. We want to make [community profile] colors_tcg as easy and welcoming for you as possible. And, of course, good fun!! So on that note let's get to the actual topic, shall we?

Family!

Simple as that, really! Tell me about families in anime, manga or video games that give you a lot of feelings. They don't have to be related by blood to count as family, nor do they have to have grown up together. Just tell us about character relationships based around those platonic familial feelings, and why you enjoy them so much! Though of course straight-up blood related family is fine too!

Then again, perhaps you are one of ~those~ fans. It's okay, don't be shy...! We've all been there. Do you prefer your fictional families doomed and twisted? Does your favourite character have a tendency to stab or get stabbed by their sibling? Does Gendo Ikari's approach to parenting make your heart go doki-doki? Do you SHIP family relationships?!?!?!?!

Let's just keep it clean and fun and respect each others opinions, you guys, hahaha. We're all friends here \o\ For participating today you will receive celebration17! You can also select two choice cards of the same color, but from different decks. So two brown choice cards, two red choice cards, whatever, just so long as they're from two different decks. Have at it, you all!

THIS POST IS NOW CLOSED.

I adore Madoka's family, from Puella Magi Madoka Magica. They are the most adorable ever! It's really refreshing seeing a heroine actually have relationships with her parents, and great ones to boot, rather than them being dead or irrelevant to the story. And then her baby brother remembered her, even at the end of the series!

I'd like selfless01 and four20, please. Both are red decks.

I still think that Son Goku is a better father than many think. Yeah, he was dead for a grand total of eight years, and missing for at least one, but it's the reason why he stayed dead for seven solid years that's important. Up until that point, every villain had been coming to Earth just to kill Goku. Being alive was putting everyone at risk. Finally faced with a villain (Cell) who was almost too much for any of them, he had to seriously rethink things. He almost got his son killed fighting Cell; it ... wasn't the first time. So Goku decided to stay dead and keep the dangers away from everyone else and protect them the only way he could. I just. I have a lot of feelings about Goku and I really, really hope he found his grandpa after he died so he could apologize for killing him, like he wanted to as a kid. /o\

I'd like human19 and hairclips01, please. They're orange!

Ahhh, I just want to express my appreciation of your banner first of all. ♥ ♥ ♥ And, yes, the Takakuras give me many, many feelings. I really like family bonds (platonic or... not so platonic?) and Mawaru Penguindrum does give you the whole gamut. The way Shoma, Kanba and Himari care for each other really gets to me.

I want to mention Miki and Kozue too, they are wonderful. Just. Ikuhara. Everything is Ikuhara and everything hurts.

With that in mind, may I have Raison01 and Attache01 please?

(I'm sorry I have nothing better to say. ;___;)

can I talk about Vinland Saga again—

I REALLY LOVE THE FAMILY DYNAMICS WITH STRONG PARENTAL FIGURES like in. vinland..saga..... but also like, madoka magica with madoka's mom!! i also have a weakness for siblings. especially twins.

interestingly enough tho, I reaaaally dislike sexual sibcon, and even romantic sibcon to an extent—it's a case by case thing, but there are enough series that i dislike due to sibcon that i just avoid sibcon entirely.

taking dna15 and medicine16!

I may be heartless, but... I don't really have any special feelings for families. If I have to pick, I'd prefer a group of friends who developed strong bonds during their adventures together, rather than having them from the beginning just because of family ties. Of course, one would instinctivly think of Persona 3 or 4 here, but I suppose almost any jRPG that has a playable party and is not aiming to be 'dark and twisted' works this way. Take almost any Final Fantasy game. Or Star Ocean, Suikoden, Ni No Kuni, Eternal Sonata, Colors RPG or almost any other jRPG I played in the last few years. You always start with a bunch of strangers, who would die for each other (AND SOMETIMES THEY DO SOB) near the end of the game. I think that's nice.

EDIT:
Oh waaaait, I know what I forgot, there's one family with awesome dynamics that I like! The Mishimas from Tekken! All of them want to kill the other ones and frequently kick each other's butts, but sometimes they can still meet for a family dinner.

Gonna take 2 purple cards - Cryogenic18 and Chainsaws02. (yeah, Nina is totally the best person to be choosing for a family round, right?)

I'm agreeing with mllelaurel. First family that comes to mind is Madoka's. I like how in the first episode she wakes up and gets ready along with her mother. And how her mom would make her a warm drink at night and talk to her. It was just really sweet. ;w; Plus all her family members were relatively relevant characters. I mean, They'd show them worried about her or interacting with her.

Taking forest18 and clock06! Both are gray decks.

FAMILY HURTS ME ... heck, even pseudo-family hurts me. A good example of the pseudofamily thing is something like Kagami and Himuro from Kuroko no Basket— they call each other brothers but they aren't really. And of course, the family in the banner is one of my favorites too ... Kanba and Shoma and Himari break my heart ;w;.

I'll be taking iwant20 and jump20! They're both red!

The Ushiromiya family from Umineko are a prime example of Big Messed Up Family. I love them all together, as well as the smaller family groups within it. All the family relationships in the series are painful and dysfunctional and unhappy, but also very realistic and understandable. And no matter how horribly they treat each other, most of them do genuinely love each other and regret their inability to express that. It's really sad and awful and I eat it up because I love to see my fictional characters both suffering and occasionally having moments of happiness.

I would like legend01 and logout20, both of them grey decks! (yes, Tsukasa is perfect for the family round)

FAMILY. FEELINGS. FATE/ZERO. Kiritsugu, Irisviel and Ilyasviel. Especially sad as neither of them end up living anyway. Iri was killed but was doomed to die anyway, Kiritsugu was cursed and died early (both without even seeing their daughter again), Ilya mostly grew up without her parents and as best would probably end up dying early as she's a homunculus as well, unable to live long.

It hurts that they didn't even get to see each other one last time

I rather not have my families doomed or anything but I don't get as much feeeeeelings otherwise.

Purple cards: Sopheria 02, Yomihime 01

I love any sort of strong bond that results in familial feelings; I don't think characters necessarily have to be related to form families. But whenever this topic comes up, I just think of Cardcaptor Sakura. It just did so well depicting different types of families and how bonds of love are pretty important regardless of where you come from...

But we've also talked about Digimon Adventure as doing really well depicting familieis, and that's important to me as well, haha. It has single mom, single dad, nuclear family, adopted kid, sibling-strewn kid, only child... And they're all very dimensional and real? I think one of the most memorable scenes in all the anime I've ever watched is during the battle with VenomMyotismon and immediately following it, when all the Digidestined know they have to head back and their parents are, one way or another, all supporting them. That scene always gets me right in the heart. ;;

Blood+ does the "love = family" bit quite damn well, and now that I look back on it, family is a pretty major theme in the series. Something that's really asking for a rewatch, that one is. AND in the game department, despite it professing to be about friendship, Tales of Graces does quite an interesting thing with family ties and bonds, and that makes me glad.

Incest Is Aces™

With that said, I'm going to take the best gay (yellow) boyfran daddies: adonis19 and bright19~

FAMILY ////

Family is one of my favorite things, it always makes me really happy to see them being cute, whether they're related or not because blood isn't a thing that makes family.

Nagisa's family, from AKB0048, is one that I especially like—it was really rough in the first season. Her father didn't want her to become an idol, but she went anyway and it was super rocky. By the second season, they had managed to work things out and it was very much a "I LOVE YOU BUT I ALSO ACKNOWLEDGE WE ARE ON DIFFERENT WALKS OF LIFE but that doesn't change how much I support you even if we support the ideology of different things."

I'd like berserker01 and curebeat01, they're both blue!

For the longest time I was in denial about what kind of fictional families really made my heart dokidoki. But then you look at the list of characters I like and their families and it's just like :'D oh god oh god :'D!!!

Right now I'm really grooving with the Tohsaka family in Fate/Zero|Fate/Stay Night. IT'S A LITTLE HARD because it's not a direct match up but w/e. But Rin and Sakura are just really. . . interesting sisters to say the least with a lot of baggage and ill feelings but the end of Heaven's Feel is . . . well, full of feelings. And since Fate is Fate/Father complex obviously there's a lot of stuff with Tokiomi going on. He's just such a shittily moe person and while Rin inherited her father's kindness ( i kno it's funny but it's also sadly true in a weird Tohsaka way ) she also inherited his Tohsaka delusion to an extent so.

I REALLY LIKE - I GUESS. . . seeing the impact of families on characters. What they either do FOR their parents or BECAUSE OF their parents.

Ulster19 and Smile01 Please! They're both blue!

Most of the characters I love almost always have very strong family ties in a way or another. It's actually one of my strongest pings! I like characters who are that devoted to something/someone and would do like, anything for it. Or even if they don't have good ties with them, family being A Big Deal for them is still important.

since i always like answering with the choice cards i'm taking, I SHALL TALK ABOUT LING YAO'S. He does not have an actual traditional family and it's pretty much made obvious that he doesn't have strong ties with them (for obvious reasons). In one of FMA's Drama CDs it's revealed the one person he considered a brother figure (the guy who taught him martial arts and swordsmanship) betrayed him in a big way, and between that and his actual family trying to kill him all the time it's pretty obvious he doesn't have much luck with family. BUT THEN THERE ARE FUU AN LAN FAN. Obviously I also ship Ling/Fan but -- in general, I think those two (and Greed too to an extent later on) are pretty much the closest thing he has to a family. They're extremely important to him and he obviously cares for them and trusts them above just people who work under them. So they're definitely the family he chose for himself.

taking prince06 and retainer01, both from gray decks!

I am crazy about twisted family so the Britannias from Code Geass and the Uchihas from Naruto are among my top picks for familie that give me a lot of feelings. They're just so complex and so terrible in attempt to protect and getting each other hurt in the process. Same reason that I adore the Kiryuu brothers from Vampire Knight and their fucked-up relationship. And yes, I ship pretty much everyone in these families with each other. I have no shame.

I guess on healthy family concept, I will go with Ferris, Ryner and Sion from the Legend of the Legendary Heroes. They're each pretty much the strongest family Sion and Ryner have ever known. Ferris has her own siblings but is a close to Sion and Ryner as she can get. I will also add the amazing dynamics of the Wolf's Rain pack, including Blue and Cheza into this category of healthy family love. And let's say Yuuki, Zero and Kaien trio from Vampire Knight because when they're doing family stuff together they are completely adorable, especially when Kaien wants them to call him "father."

I'm going to take bloodyrose10 and dynamite20, thank you!

Oh gosh. I have several. Currently from Bleach with the most recent past arc, it's been the Kurosakis and Ishidas from Bleach. They're also not blood-related, but I looooooove the main party from FFXIII. They start out HATING one another, but then they bond and they get better and they love one another and I just agjlkdf

I'm incoherent because I just woke up and it is early. please forgive me.

Families in these mediums are so wonderful! ;A; Friendships usually hit me hard right in the kokoro, but families are a close second, especially if there's tragedy involved, or the families have their own faults/problems, or they are broken families. I guess it's an easy way to connect with them if they mimic something you relate to, or something you have seen in other families.

The best part of all, though, is when families come through the hard times together as families! Even better if they do it with humor!

P.S. For the longest time, I totally shipped Dante and Vergil from DMC (+200 terrible pts for twinsies).

Oh man, I fail this morning. Forgot my cards! I'll snag XIV 15 and Typical 01!

I... don't care much about families except for the families from Fire Emblem Awakening & The Fey sisters from Ace Attorney. Most of my reasoning for Fire emblem is spoilery, and while for the Fey sisters I just find Mia & Maya adorable together. <3

For Slayers, I love Amelia and her father. Amelia's family has a reputation for being a bit... well, eccentric (she's had two relatives try to kill her and/or her father, her mother is dead, her sister is... well, secretly another character revealed in interviews and teased at the latest seasons. But Amelia idolizes her father and it shows.

Also, since I was looking through my my PlanetES files, I like showing both the crew of the Toy Box as family, but also the crews' families and how people make families work when 'long distance commute' involves rocket ships and 'calls home' involve light-travel delays.

Let's have two blue cards: Abh01 and Paladin01

One of the fictional families I'm most familiar with is the enormous Sohma family from Fruits Basket, which... well, in many cases "dysfunctional" is a gross understatement. But there are a few healthy, genuinely loving relationships mixed in there, and those are the ones I'm drawn to the most. I absolutely love the father-son dynamic that forms between Kazuma and Kyou. Kazuma takes the poor Cat in when no one else cares about him, and their relationship grows strong enough that he's willing to defy the entire family for his "son". Hiro's mother is also a wonderful contrast to certain other mothers in the series, still sweet and kind to her son in spite of his curse.

And after talking about Furuba for a paragraph, I'm going to go in a completely different direction for my choice cards. I'd like the green cards steak17 and courage10!

I adore families that are really close and would do anything for each other. ...Especially the ones that would do literally anything, including sacrificing the entire world.

Like Lieral Lieutolu for his wife and son. Or Lucile Eris for his sisters (okay mostly for Ferris but Iris benefited too). both of those are from DenYuuDen, surprise surprise

Also doting dads who are embarrassing toward their kids are cute. Maes Hughes (FMA) especially. His obsession with photos of Elysia is the most adorable thing.

My choice cards, both yellow, will be bishoujo09 and eris03, speaking of the Eris siblings. :)

The Sohma's fom Fruits Basket are my favorite family, but the tragedy that tags along with them doesn't sit well with me, haha. But I love what makes them a family as a whole, from Kyo and Yuki always trying to best one another, to the relationship between Hiro and Kisa (so cute I want to die), to Ayame, Shigure, and Hatori being the most awesome of bros, all of that. It breaks my heart that Kureno was never part of that, and that Akito managed so late and after so much strife. But I love that at least at the very end, they're happy ;;

I, personally, are more fond of found families. A great one with a lot of development toward being a family imo is Elsie and Keima from TWGOK. He starts off being really cold to her, but then as time goes by, he relents and even becomes a protective big brother to her. It's adorable.

Gosh I love family bonds in my manga/anime, especially the type that arise from a group of friends having adventures and living with each other. One of my favorites has always been the Kenshin-gumi from Rurouni Kenshin, if only because I always thought their dynamic was a lot of fun. They were lighthearted and silly and picked on each other, but were still incredibly loyal and looked out for each other when needed. It's been a while since I've watched that series, but I remember them fondly!

I'll take thief08 and rat20, please!
