Anniversary Day 7

Here we are at Day 7, so soon! I hope you'll go easy on my rudimentary banner text, my current life quest is to download lots of nice fonts and learn how to actually use photoshop properly. But let's get to today's topic!

Characters you relate to!

I don't necessarily mean in lifestyle, of course. We can't all spend our lives questing for Dragonballs, right? But is there some character out there who you really sympathise with, or have a lot of empathy for? Is there something about their situations, reactions or interactions that you can really see yourself in? Or hey, do you maybe just share their sense of humour, or style of dress? Tell us about it, you guys!

As ever, if there really isn't a character you relate to in this way, just come and tell us about that. HOW CAN YOU RELATE TO ANIME GUYS THAT'S WEIRD......

For participating you will received! celebration07 and a choice07 card! Lucky sevens! And as ever, you have until June 30th to answer this post not the fictional June 31st I listed last time, ulp. Get chatting, you all!

THIS POST IS NOW CLOSED.

Man, I've only read the first few volumes of the series, but there's this character I've encountered on and off that I related to just because we're both artists. She is Ogiue Chika from Genshiken. She's a lot more tsundere and ends up being more successful than me at her passions though XD. (Also I'm not really interested in drawing yaoi doujin of guys I know, that would be infinity x awkward... IT'S LEGIT IN A MANGA WORLD THOUGH.)

My choice is mushi07.

The answer to this question is obvious.

Absolutely obvious.

I can absolutely relate to Kamina from Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann! Yeah, that's right! I'm going to optimistically lead everyone into new horizons while believing in them, and telling them to believe in themselves because I believe in them!

...that and because selfless self sacrifice is definitely a thing.

GO. FIGHT. WIN.

Uh, yeah, also peeping on the ladies side of the hot spring. And piloting giant mechs. And wielding a ridiculously long katana. ALL OF THESE THINGS.

Totally want Ally07, if that's cool!

Hmmm, this is difficult because all the characters that immediately come to mind aren't... animanga/video game characters... haha, sob.

I'm going to say Haruhi Suzumiya because of how she was generally unhappy about how ordinary life was, and wanted more. An adventure! And immediately my moods can vary greatly like hers does.

oh right, almost forgot. black lynx 07!

I can't think of a character I've ever related to seriously, really. In general, my favorite characters tend to be those that I don't think I'd want to relate to anyway. The unsafe smilers who smile unsafely and so on. >_>;;

Speaking of unsafe smilers, I choose knave07!

Characters I relate to... That's actually kind of hard. But in a way... maybe Reki from Haibane Renmei, in a way. I mean, obviously I'm not an angel, and also I don't smoke, but I do work hard to try to make people happy, like she does. And there are a couple of other things too, I guess, like how she finds it difficult to ask for help.

My choice card will be stigma07.

I really relate to Cure Marine, because she's so spunky and follows her heart, even when she's down in the dumps! I love her pure spirit and enthusiasm, she's a good inspiration...even when she doesn't want to do her homework haha.

I would like Endless07 please!

One character that I relate to... I had to TVTropes her name, but Sheska? From Full Metal Alchemist. My love of books almost rivals hers. I don't quite have a room full of books, everything is still on the shelves...mostly. I would love to work in a library, or somewhere with lots of books. I work hard at paralegaling, and I sometimes wish I had her photographic memory. Also, if I were in a series, I'd want to be a side character-- I'm not much for the spotlight!

I will take loveme07!

The characters I relate to the most tend to be what I call "beta protagonists" - ordinary people who aren't particularly special or destined or anything, but who get thrown into ridiculously tough circumstances and triumph despite the odds. Or possibly fail. I'm okay with them failing, as long as the story doesn't feel like shooting the shaggy dog, i.e. rendered meaningless.

Asking for: selfless07, please!

I guess I relate emotionally to a lot of the characters I like, but they also tend to be far crazier than me so I wouldn't want to relate too much. I also tend to relate well with really irreverent character.

I'll take stigma07, thank you.

Aki Izayoi from Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's. Now, not because she was bullied as a child for being different from others, or because she had really difficult relationship with her parents, or anything that's happened to her during most of the series. But at the very end, she makes a decision to follow her dream and leave her hometown to study abroad, something I've done as well (although I moved just to another city, not abroad). That's why I think I can understand how she felt at that time very well, which only hit me when I watched the episode where it happens on the very day when I left my hometown.

Rambling aside, my choice will be blackbird07!

I'm going to say Madoka from Puella Magi Madoka Magica. She's just an ordinary girl, she's very sweet and earnest and wants to be helpful. She wants to have some self worth and purpose in what she does! And then she discovers this magical new world where she could, where she can fight alongside her friends and protect the people and the world she loves, it would be wonderful if she could be helpful like that!

Aaand then the magical world turns out to be much harsher and have much higher stakes than she's willing to engage with. I think that's a very human reaction! She's scared of getting hurt, of dying, of watching her friends die. The offer of a magical life is not as fun as it seems, and that's how I'd react in real life. It seems all fun and sparkles and then jfc how am I supposed to fight monsters no I quit!! Madoka is a lot more impressive than me in that she eventually sacrifices EVERYTHING to save everyone ever, she's a wonderful character who becomes somethng magnificent from something ordinary. It's not a completely good thing, it's got horrific implications, but she's making the best of what she has.

This is a terrible topic... :'). I guess for me it's a mix between Ririchiyo(InuBoku) in my self-esteem and in that I also get depressed easily after being tsun or too "open" sometimes, and then there's also Keima from KamiNomi because I also want to just be left to myself and my hobbies and I get terribly absorbed in what I'm doing. That and, I'm a gamer too. And I guess Kubota from Wild Adapter counts too, because sometimes I can be awfully detached AND emotionally dependent with certain people.

As for my choice 7, Stray Cat07 please!

Is it weird to say that I really relate to Yumi from Maria-sama ga Miteru... I mean, I guess it's not that weird since it's a slice of life show and she's the ~ordinary girl~ protagonist. I think since she's such an everywoman it feels awkward, but at the same time, I feel pretty close to her :B

I'll take whip07 from this!

I...can't really relate to any of my top favorite characters because they're bonkers to various degress, ahaha orz

Though, I think I'd probably relate to Literature Girl from Daily Lives of High School Boys, especially with the blubbering and epic fails. |D;;

My impulse answer is Rita Mordio from Tales of Vesperia because no matter how old I get, I have the spirit of a tiny angry tsundere nerdy girl shut-in, hahaha. I generally don't really gravitate towards characters that are like me so it's hard for me to think much about it, but I do always think of her!! She's my forever girl.

On a Tales of Vesperia note, I'd like to grab heart07!

I think the character I relate the most is Ling Yao from FMA, we share the same sense of humor, care about friends and always hungry ^^
Sometimes I can relate to Zoro too, because I have a very poor sense of orientation ^^

I've related with Alibaba Saluja a lot over the last year or so! The way he reacts to things around him does remind me of myself, especially when he seems cool only to quickly remind everyone he really... really isn't.

Honestly the first character that comes to mind is Henry Townshend from Silent Hill 4: The Room. I love him to pieces, partially because I can see myself in him. We're both introverted (him far more than me tho lol) and shy, we think constantly about what we're going to say before he actually speak, and we are STUBBORN AS HELL. There are some clear differences of course but I have a lot of sympathy for him whenever I see him interact with others in the game. Talking to others can be hard! I know, because of my social anxiety. While I don't think Henry is socially anxious, I see his difficulties and accept them.

Locked in07 is my choice card c:

Honestly, there's always characters I find myself relating to in many different aspects.

Specially, I'll focus on Ahiru (from Princess Tutu). I really saw a lot of myself in her, in that I really grew up as a cheerful, happy little girl, but I never had a lot of confidence in myself. Ahiru is sweet and caring, she loves others, but she doesn't feel she is really good at anything. Her struggles reminded me of my own, and that much I could relate to.

I'll be taking invincible07.

I can think of a lot of characters I can relate with, haha. But Kise Yayoi from Smile Precure! is definitely one of the most recent. In addition to being horribly shy and an artist, she adores the tokusatsu genre and giant robots, anime, all kinds of dorky things like that that she gushes and fangirls over with her friends. Though I think a lot of us can relate to that, haha.

I'd like hairclips07 o7

I relate a lot to Chie Satonaka from Persona 4! I used to RP her for a year or so, and playing her came extremely naturally to me; we're both upbeat and cheerful girls who really like steak. I KNOW I SAY THAT LAST PART AS A JOKE, but it actually is true... it does extend past that, though; even the ways we feel and how we handle things are really similar. The only thing different is that she's super in shape, whereas I am... not. A lot of friends I've made have compared me to her, and I can really see where they're coming from. Even people I know irl have made the connections—my boyfriend even pointed it out to me before we got together when he started playing P4 for the first time, and Chie was his favorite character, haha... u///u I even plan to cosplay her sometime—I was planning on doing it this year for Fanime, but unfortunately plans fell through. :c There's always next year, though!

I'll take Knife07, thank you c:

I'm old enough that a lot of the shows I like have characters that are too young for me to relate to any more. Right now, the character I'm thinking of is Reki from Haibane Renmei, mostly because she comes across as incredibly capable and such, but on the inside she's struggling and needs help from her friend to pull herself out.

Thankfully, both Reki and I got out of that place -- she moved on and I'm moving on -- but it was something I felt for. Haibane Renmei does a good job of capturing elements of depression.

Once again, I think of a series without a deck, so let's go for names07

Hmm, I'm having the hardest time answering this one, for some reason. I do relate to a lot of characters, and often when I do I end up roleplaying them. But a lot of times that's just one or two personality traits that resonate with me, rather than their entire personality. I do feel a lot of kinship with Fuyuki from Keroro Gunsou, though. He's just an ordinary kid, but he's so fascinated with the supernatural and alien, and so eager and excited when he starts getting his chance thanks to Keroro and the others.

So with that in mind, paranormal07 please!

Sometimes I think I relate to Erio Touwa from Denpa Onna To Seishun Otoko - and I wish I was a cute bluehaired girl buuuut the way she deals with socialising reminds me a lot about how I used to be.

I'll take T-Shirt07!
