Wow, it's 2012! 2011 passed by super quickly for me. I almost can't believe it. It's January once again. Here's to another year of trading! \o/

LJ's release 88 completely revamped the comment system so that it's very different from before. The new comment style doesn't completely suit the TCG's needs, as subject lines have been taken out, and there is no preview button for players and mods to check to see if their comments display correctly. While LJ has given everyone the ability to edit comments, sometimes editing comments isn't exactly the best route to take (especially when time stamps are involved)! I'm not particularly fond of plus accounts because of ads, but I have changed colors_tcg from a basic account to a plus account so that we can use S2, which allows for customized comment pages, which means we can have subject lines and the preview button back (for now, at least). Chuu has very helpfully tweaked a layout for us! I hope it's a good enough compromise for now. Since the community is currently a plus account, that also means we can have more links in the sidebar. I've only included the bare minimum (all of the links are displayed on our profile page and essential posts linked here, but if there are any other links you feel are necessary for the sidebar (or counterintuitive for not being in the sidebar in the first place), let me know!

The banner in the upper left corner was drawn by Nuge~, featuring our Colors characters! We'll possibly even have rotating banners in the future! :) (edit: we now have a few banners! Can you catch them all? ;)

Our trading and mod communities have not been touched. Unless anyone feels colors_trade would benefit from an S2 style, with customized comment pages, the community will probably stay as is! (It would be nice to have a preview button, I suppose?)

Sort of but not entirely related to the above (my mind's just been on communities!), I have also been wondering if players would like an off-topic community, or if that would take away too much from colors_trade (I'm always afraid of branching out too much and like my things centralized). An off-topic community has been suggested before, but I did consider things like friending memes, announcements about special Colors related projects, misc chats about Colors, etc, to belong in colors_trade, so an off-topic community might take away from that (as there would be two different places to post, yet crossposting would maybe be overdoing it). Still, perhaps an off-topic community where (almost) anything goes might be nice? Where players can chat and be silly, and your chatter wouldn't have to be related to trading or TCGs. Share your thoughts - yes, no, maybe, doesn't matter? reasons? - and you can snatch yourself two character cards, one #20 character card and one #12 character card for 2012!

Our deck donation number has gone down a bit, but we were so close to what I like to see in each release - around 70 new character decks! We were short 2 decks this month, exactly like last month, actually. So you know what this means right? Please continue to donate lots of decks! For this release, I've noticed that we mostly have decks from series that's already part of the TCG. It's great seeing the casts from these series being filled out more! \o/ (But I hope this doesn't mean we've run out of series we want decks of!)

I personally like the off topic things where they are - in the trade comm! For me, the trade comm is a place to kind of bond with the players in itself, as that is where I always go to trade with people. By trading numerous times with people, through finding out what they're collecting, I find out more about their interests. With these things (friending memes, off topic things, etc.), I feel like I get to know the players beyond their interests, and because I'm not much of a comm frequenter (I only really check the main comm and the trade comm), this helps me out a lot in getting to know them, which I wouldn't be able to do so otherwise.

On the other side, I'd completely understand if a separate comm is made. I would also probably follow it since I love the members here and the players here. It would be a nice way to get to know more people~

Oh! About the possible o-t community- imo totally off-topic posts would be better in a separate community so that players won't have to dig through o-t posts to get to card post advertisements and things? Unless we can get a general on-topic tag (instead of player-specific ones) that people actually use, I mean. But then, the friending memes and player-projects and things don't happen often enough to make _trade cluttered, so if it doesn't look like there will be a ton of ot posts it wouldn't be a problem.

What about just a weekly ot post?

Hm... I'm all right with a separate comm for off-topic things! I know some people would probably appreciate it, having the trade comm focused on trading and the like. I don't think it would cause any problems!

Well, I really like the trading comm, it's really useful and you can get to know members way better than by just sitting at main tcg so I guess another seperate off-topic comm would be just more fun so yeah, I think that's a nice idea!

I wouldn't mind an offtopic community being created, I think it could actually make people talk more about non-trade stuff since colors_trade is supposed to be for trades and not chat and is used for chat because there's no offtopic community... It would probably be better to keep everything in colors_trade since I also don't like having 27452835 communities for everything... we'd have to redo the tags a little for that, I think. I think the trade community is good as it is - there are no formal restrictions for topics, and if someone wants to post something less connected with the TCG, no one forbids them to do so. The friending memes and other similar things are fitting there and everything is fine that way. Taking Abh12 and Lander20 as bonus.

I want to say again I really like the new layout and I love the rotating banner.

As for a separate chat community. I really wouldn't mind one. I'd love a place to just post up general chat stuff. While memes and the extra player made Color's things (like the unofficial first mastery badges and the RPG) I see as alright on the Trading Com since they have to do with the TCG I feel really odd about posting anything anything else there other than pimping my post or offering slots. I'd love a place where the player could interact more. Chat about what series they're into now or ask/offer some recs for other series. Things like that.

I'd prefer having a separate community for off-topic conversation - one more community isn't really that much, plus it'd both make the trade comm cleaner and encourage people to talk and mingle - I know I've had doubts about posting not-trade related things there! (Taking firstaid12 arrogant20, thank you~)

I'm pretty okay with how things are right now myself, but I wouldn't mind a separate community being created specifically for off-topic content, either. The tag system we currently have in the trade comm is easy to navigate and browse - at least, I think the tags are not too over-crowded? I haven't seen any over-tagging for individual posts, either. Having it all in one place is also a plus, in my opinion, since you can just as easily locate a trading post/slots as well as you can the memes and other content.

On the other hand, if the tag system for colors_trade becomes too cluttered, as it was with the individual deck names' tags before, or if excess tags in general become a constant issue for the comm, then I think opening up an off-topic community would be the better idea of the two. It'd be a lot less of a hassle than constantly removing or editing tags, at least. To avoid this problem for now, it might be best to just group any other content into a single general tag or a general tag set, rather than tagging it with tags that will unlikely be relevant to many future posts or ones that are too specific and just as likely to be relevant to many other posts. As for the cross-posting problem, in the case of this new comm being made, I think just linking back to our card posts/trade piles/etc. like I think most of us already do for posts to the trade comm would be fine, and then a link to our most recent post over in the trade comm itself, if any.

Also, I think a separate community would be great for promoting interaction between members more than usual, so that's another plus. It definitely sounds like it would easier than allowing the possibility of more tag issues to come up again, too. Browsing either community's content would be even easier, since they'd be divided into specific sections as opposed to collected in just one area.

That's all just my 2 cents in the event that Colors will eventually need another community for off-topic content, but I think everything is fine as it is now. Like I said, either works fine for me, and they both have their own pros and cons. All in all, however, and while I am content with things as they are, the new community idea does actually sound like it would do a lot more good in the long run (i.e. more interaction, less concern for tags, separate comms for separate subjects, and so on).

Thanks for the release and everyone's hard work, as always!

For the topic at hand... I actually really like the idea of an off-topic comm. I think it would be a great way to spur discussion between members and the community as a whole. I feel that while the off-topic posts are not exactly intruding in the trade comm, it would be much more organized to make a separate community for it. It would give members a place to talk to each other and feel free to post whatever they want without saying something like "if this isn't allowed here, please let me know"! But that's just my opinion~ I'll be taking steiner20 and scythe12 for this, thanks!

Right now, I'll be taking nanodesu15, mint07, standup02, avarice19, form12, resentment17, earthquake16, and the winter03 card that I donated for slots. I'll be back for the last two character cards later!

Not really interested in a off-topic community but I don't spend that much time online anyway. But maybe other members would. ^^ Could try it out and see how many people get into it. Better to start it and see then not try at all. There's also taking it to facebook which seems to stay active more than any other online community out there.

Personally, I like the thought of an off-topic community. It'd encourage users to use Livejournal more, as it seems interaction in general on LJ has been slowing down, and the trading comm being mainly for trading (and as the name implies) - it gives the impression that it's not favored to post anything off-topic there. Having a completely separate community for off-topic discussions and such would be much better, and I would honestly be interested to participate in it! It also seems like a lot of fun, and would encourage players to know each other better 8D

As for the off-topic comm, I honestly think that there isn't much of a necessity for one, but having one wouldn't be too bad, since trades comm should in my opinion, mainly be for trades, one would probably be hesitant to type a off-topic or just non-trade-related post over there because it would just probably seem strange amongst the other trade-related posts. So in this case, I do not mind of the creation of an off-topic comm although there isn't a huge necessity for it.
