Advent Calendar Day 06

Let's be real, you all should've seen this coming from me. Today, we'll be talking about our favorite holiday songs. If you don't care for holiday music, however, have no fear. You are more than welcome, and are encouraged, to talk about your favorite songs to listen to when you want to drown out the Christmas music that the masses like to throw at us.

Each song mentioned will give you 3 random cards with a max of 15 random cards for 5 songs.

Like all the Advent Calendar posts, this post will close January 1st, 2024!

1. Mi Y'malel (Who Can Retell?) - SATB Choir. I really like this arrangement of a classic Hanukkah song! The rhyming of the Hebrew and English together is especially neat, I can't think of any other songs that do that.

2. Candlelight - The Maccabeats. I'm a sucker for good a cappella songs, what can I say.

3. How Do You Spell Channukkahh? - The LeeVees. Truly the most important question of our times.

4. Ocho Kandelikas - Idina Menzel. Ladino is definitely under-represented as a language.

5. The Latke Song (Live) - Debbie Friedman. This was my favorite Hanukkah song as a kid!

i've always lived in texas so this is a staple and honestly if i had to pick a favorite holiday song it'd be this one. it's just so fun and definitely gets stuck in your head!

2 — you're a mean one, mr. grinch
i mean, one of the all timers. i always watched this when it was on tv during christmas time as a kid.

3 — making christmas
if i'm gonna be honest nightmare before christmas is the closest thing to a favorite christmas movie i have lmao. all the songs are bangers, for halloween or christmas.

5 — frosty the snowman
as a kid i was obsessed with frosty, apparently i'd watch it over and over even in july. so the nostalgia is real with this one!

1. between two worlds by mili - CHRISTMAS BANGER. the best christmas song that didn't even come out during christmas so no one has played it during christmas yet!! be the first!!!

2. all i want for christmas is you by mcr - i just really like mcr i would listen to anything mcr. whos mariah carey

3. something about you by eyedress - i dug up my christmas playlist without any christmas songs and this was one of them, it's very soft and cozy just like christmas.

4. stalemate by mochi and lovesadkid - another one from my christmas playlist, lovesadkid has lots of comfy songs that sound like drinking hot chocolate!

5. christmas eve celine dion (the anime amv) - this is less for the song and more for the video, it's the first youtube video i ever watched in my life so it's extremely nostalgic to me :D

1. last christmas by wham! - i don't know if this was listened to a lot when i was growing up but it just feels so nostalgic to me for some reason
2. let it snow by dean martin - IT'S JUST V CATCHY my music tastes are all over the place
3. carol of the bells by trans siberian orchestra - no words but this mix is just epic as hell
4. touch my robe by alan silvestri - this i could have sworn was a remix of a carol but i have no idea what it could be but this version of that song stands out in my mind so much because this was the point in the movie where they were zooming around and i thought it was so cool
5. once upon a december from anastasia - this was the first song we learned in my elementary choir group and it's always been a song i associate with christmas. even if it's not really christmas, just the month

this really just turned into a christmas playlist LMAO i don't think i mind it so much anymore since like. i don't work retail, and it ONLY plays around this time of year. if i heard it all year round i think i'd tear my hair out. also working in a casino you can hardly hear any music so x)

now the songs for when im trying to drown out the music:

Hair of the dog - Nazareth the repetition is nice
Green Onions - Booker T. & the M.G's for when im done with most of everything, lyrics included
i thankfully dont have to drown out the christmas music all the time, but these would be my picks

throughout my whole childhood, i didn't get to listen to much holiday-related songs, and i only know a few from elementary. most of these could be classics that i know from the top of my head.

1- The Twelve days of Christmas
2- Jingle Bell Rock
3- Last Christmas by Wham!, along with Michael Buble just down below, i ended up either finding these through normal means or having to see an internet meme made from it.
4- It's beginning to look a lot like christmas

5-It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year nothing so special about this, other than that ive heard it in malls or any other shop.

I'm not a religious person, nor was I raised very religiously... but I did take piano lessons from a very religious woman my entire childhood, so I have a soft spot for religious themed Christmas music. Here's my favorites to play and listen to in no particular order.

Oh geeze, Im not sure. I guess I can list a few, but for me its just any song works I guess, but I prefer ones I can listen to anytime. Chris Hart does a lot of christmas music I hear during this time though. But here are a few I could think of.

1. Snow Halation by µ's
More of a winter song than a holiday song, but it's the only song that matters. To me.

2. All I Want for Christmas is You by Mariah Carey
I know people always talk about being super tired of this one but I still kinda like it. I'm not usually going out of my way to listen it (not that I would have to), but it's still enjoyable.

3. Caramelldansen Christmas Remix
Sorry this one's too funny for me to not include. I think about this remix all the time and I never see anyone acknowledge its existence.

4. Last Christmas by Wham!
I really don't have a whole lot to say about this one, it's just the first song that usually pops in my head (and gets stuck there) when I think of Christmas songs specifically.

5. Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy
Honestly I could probably put the entirety of The Nutcracker here.

1.) Last Christmas by Wham! - My #1 for all time. I just love it for some reason! The only Christmas song I can listen to at any time of year.
2.) But I'm Not Interested in Christmas At All by Nanahira - This is a new one for me this year. I love Nanahira, and honestly I didn't like this song too much the first time I heard it, but I've been playing it a lot this month!
3.) Have You Been Naughty or Nice? by Flambe - TECHNICALLY A CHRISTMAS SONG! I did not even know it was a Christmas song until I looked at the lyrics. Obligatory Ensemble Stars mention.
4.) The Night Santa Went Crazy by Weird Al Yankovic - Used to be OBSESSED with this tacky song as a kid, lol. I listened to it last week for the first time in probably ten years and still had a good laugh.
5.) The 12 Days of Christmas by Goldfinger - Also a new one for me. A friend of mine is obsessed with ska and has infected me with ska fever. This one is just goofy but I've been listening to it anyway LOL.

Pretenders - 2000 Miles I've always had a soft spot for this one even though it's not one of the most popular ones
Mistletoe and Wine look, i believe that "time for giving and time for getting, time for forgiving and time for forgetting" is one of the most cleverly written lyrics in all of songwriting and it just happens to be in a holiday song
Shakin' Stevens - Merry Christmas learning English as a kid this was my favorite to sing in class in the season
Melanie Thornton - Wonderful Dream i know it's a total corporate product but i grew up with this song and it fucks me up that she didn't even life to see her song's popularity
Czerwone Gitary - Jest Taki Dzień ah forget it, I will rep my country's good Christmas bangers too

1. Marshmallow World I only learned about this song last year? The year before? It is a bop.

4 and 5 It Came Upon a Midnight Clear / O Little Town of Bethlehem I do love me my Rudolph and Frosty, but after my mom got a Burl Ives CD, I prefer these of his carols!

1. Hark! The Herald Angels Sing - This is the only Christmas song that I really like, I think. I remember playing it in middle school band and falling in love with the song. It is Pretty Good

and now for assorted songs that I associate with winter

2. Ricky Montgomery - This December - I remember discovering this song in April and I was completely OBSESSED with it ever since. I love this song to bits, and it's very important to me. Definitely my favorite Ricky Montgomery song! On a similar note, there is a holiday version - here.

3. YUKIKA - NEON - I've loved Yukika for ages, since her debut! This song just is very "christmas" to me. I like it a lot!

4. Kirinji - Jikanga Nai - This song is more fall-like to me, but I still really really like it. I have a seasonal jpop/jrock playlist for each season, and I challenge myself to listen to as much of the 600 or so-song playlist as I can before the season ends. This song stuck out to me from the rest of my autumn playlist - the chorus is just very lovely and cozy.

5. Limonéne - sour sweet - listen man. I will take EVERY opportunity to plug this song. Listen, I would trade my entire Colors card collection if it meant that everyone on here would listen to this song. Holy cow. I love this song SO MUCH. I LOVE this song man. i ADORE this song bro. possibly my favorite song of all time, which is saying something. i will trade cards to you for listening to this song (I am 100% serious). I LOVE THIS SONG MAN WHAT A GOOD SONG. PLEASE LISTEN TO THIS SONG
