Colors Chat 81

Finally, school's out for the day. Time to go to your part-time job, get your homework done, or dungeon crawl through the physical manifestation of someone's unconscious psyche. Oh, but wait, the group chat's blowing up! Better see what everyone wants...
Welcome to Colors Chat, where you can chat with your fellow Colors TCG members! For your response to the topic, you'll receive a card rainbow! As a general rule, responses should be around 6 sentences, but if you're a little short that's fine as long as your response is thoughtful. You don't have to answer all the prompts (or any of the prompts at all) as long as your response is on the topic.
This round's topic is.... MOVIES!
Do you have a favorite movie or a movie you re-watch all the time? What kind of genres are your favorite? Favorite actors or directors? Any movies you want to recommend to your fellow Colors players? Is there an upcoming movie you're excited for? Do you prefer to go to the theater or watch at home? Anything movie-related goes!
After you've responded, reply to other players' answers and start up a discussion! You can earn 2 extra random cards by replying to other people, up to 6 bonus cards total. Feel free to have more discussions than that, but you'll only get rewards for your first three conversations. See the first comment on this post for how to obtain your bonus rewards.
Please keep all comments civil and polite. This round

If you haven't seen Knives Out, god I can't recommend it enough.... unless you have emetophobia. Seriously, don't watch then LOL.
On another note, the only time I like going to the movies is when I go to the Alamo theatre. I haven't since the panini started, but god I miss it for the food alone. I think the last time I went was October 2019 when I got to see The Shining on the big screen, which was a dream come true for me. They play a lot of good films that aren't current. 2018 I saw Halloween on Halloween and that was very cool.
I hope I can make it back soon but def not now. That's okay tho; I know the right time will come eventually!

also what kind of food does your theater have, i'm curious :0!!

The last anime movie I saw in theaters was Rascal does Not Dream of Dreaming Girl, which is a sequel movie to the Bunny Girl-senpai series and it absolutely made me cry when I watched it alone in theaters. I'd highly reccommend if after watching the series, 100%.
I also got to watch the latest Pokemon movie with a group of friends via a Discord call and it was pretty decent - it's not the best Pokemon movie by miles but it's a fun ride, honestly. (Maybe one day I'll donate like, a deck from it.)
Other anime-related movies I watched recently are the Sailor Moon Eternal movies which I... honestly have mixed feelings on? I don't know if it was just me, but it felt super rushed imo, although it was really, really pretty. I don't know, I just felt very dissatisfied at the end of watching the two movies so I wasn't really sure on how to feel about them overall :|a
And as for upcoming anime movies: I, unfortunately, am looking forward to watching the new SAO movie to see what they added; apparently it's not a straight up adaptation of the Progressive novels as they added a new character for Asuna so I do have interest in that. I also do want to watch BELLE, which is the new Hosoda movie and honestly he's one of my favorite anime movie directors. I also need to actually get off my butt and watch the Evangelion Rebuild movies... but time... I'm probably missing a bunch but this is tl;dr as it is already ahah.

I definitely enjoy going to the movie theater when I can! I don't go too often, so it's always a treat if I can bring a friend along! If I remember correctly, the last two movies I saw in theaters were the Sonic live-action and the Harley Quinn movies back-to-back before the pandemic- I enjoyed both of them!
As of this moment, I'm actually watching the Scooby Doo! Meets Courage the Cowardly Dog movie too!
Another silly fun fact: I know the entirety of Shrek 2 by heart. I used to loop it when I was a kid- it's fine.

That said, the last time I was in a theater was to see Bungou Stray Dogs: Dead Apple with a visiting internet friend, and that was super fun! Even if I did have to get an Uber for like an hour and a half. I'd be happy to see another anime movie in theaters once, you know, the plague is over.

My Fav Genre though is horror. Especially Practical effect creature flicks. Honestly, any movie with crazy stuff like that always is fun; The Thing, The Blob, The Fly, Honestly if it has The in it, I might go "oh gee i gotta see what The looks like". I also really like Slashers, like those good old camp ones 😙👌 Like I dont expect anything groundbreaking or good, but creatives deaths man or just stuff like that.
Before Covid/Moving, I used to go to the theature atleast once a week, sometimes more depending on what was playing. I loved it, got me to see so many fun films, a lot that I wouldnt have scene otherwise (and/or not rewatch) but also a good reason to get someone to watch something I would want to see that THEY might not want to (Took someone to the Lighthouse, loved it... they did not lol). Even though theatures are opening up again, we arnt getting as many films as we were IMO, and where I live now doesn't have the same theatre I used to go to, so the "pay xx a month for unlimited movies regardless of new or not" deal isnt around for me anymore. RIP

Also, special shout out to Promare! I watched it with a friend in late 2019/early 2020 at her house and it was such a fun experience. I have fond memories of it and I absolutely love the characters!!

Now that it's spooky season, I've got to rec my favorite horror movie, Ready or Not. The non-spoiler summary is that Grace, our heroine, marries into a family with a tradition for people marrying into it: they play a game. It quickly turns spooky from there, but the movie's not just scary. It's legitimately funny, and the ensemble cast is great. That's all I'm going to say, because anything else would spoil what's honestly a really fun ride.

my fave genre is horror :,) while not a genre per se, i also really enjoy all forms of animation! sci-fi and fantasy are my jams too
for directors i enjoy guillermo del toro, and uhhhh i guess i also like studios? like ghibli and laika?
for colors-relevant films, perfect blue, the evangelion films, promare, and little nemo are all great!
uhhh i'm a cheap ass so i don't really go out for movies lol. i guess i prefer to watch at home? i'm not looking forward to any films bc i'm not in the loop or aware of stuff. i'm tentatively hoping the labyrinth sequel will be good if that's still a thing...? :,)

perfect blue is really good from what i've heard of it in spite of me not actually... having seen it properly.

and recently, the demon slayer movie! it was actually my first exposure to the anime, since i usually stick to reading manga (a manga chapter is shorter than an anime episode so it works better for my attention span), but it was so incredible i had to go back and watch the anime afterward. i knew what was going to happen since i had read the manga, but it still had me at the edge of my seat. the soundtrack and animation really added beautifully to the story.
also coco is my favorite disney/pixar movie and i have a lot of big feelings about it, but ratatouille is also extremely good

i hadn't seen the extended editions until last year-ish cause my boyfriend is a huge fan and i loved them, i'm hoping to get around to the books sometime since i've heard characterization is somewhat different. who are your faves? and it's so sweet that you bonded with your father over it!

i will always shill for inception as my favourite movie, but also my favourite genre of movies are always heist/thriller movies - i love movies like ocean's eleven, ocean's eight, the thieves, now you see me... they're all so good!!!
fun fact: i have memorised the entire english dub of the digimon movie and it lives in my head rent free. i hate it. but i also love it, it encapsulates my childhood so well.
also stan tony leung thanks

As far as comfort movies go, what I watch when I feel really blah, is a toss between The Fifth Element and Apollo 13. Odd choices perhaps, but I'm a sucker for (in the former) true love and (in the latter) managing to succeed no matter how bad things become. Plus, they're just good movies.
I'm also into things like Princess Bride, Sucker Punch, Attack the Block, Ex Machina, Ghost in the Shell (the original film), and so on.
On a different topic, the only movie I've seen in theaters since COVID started was The Hitman's Bodyguard's Wife. Before that, it was the most recent Star Wars movie, The Rise of Skywalker. Still, I don't terribly miss the theater, in general.

the last movie i saw in theaters was the nun, and i saw with my partner on our first date; i have this weird weakness for bottled sodas at the concession stand so i try not to go to the theater very much... hilariously: i went because i thought that perfect blue was playing! our plan was to see that in a theater, but it didn't work out. perfect blue is one of my favorite movies of all time, and satoshi kon is dearly missed. i look forward to christmas because i know tokyo godfathers will be on cable television honestly...
ryan and i just made plans to rewatch ponyo actually, which i am bizarrely fond of because i love movies with lots of water in them. animated movies in particular!! there's just something about how people draw water that i find so beautiful. do you guys have any recommendations for something in that area?

I've been meaning to watch the Venom sequel because I definitely want that fever dream quality of Tom Hardy in a lobster tank and trying to eat a live lobster part 2. It's just been difficult to find the correct time to go out and actually watch something when I have game obligations.
I like the atmosphere of a theater, but I'm so bad at actually leaving my house...

Other than those movies that I probably enjoy more out of something akin to nostalgia, I do like The Avengers...mostly because of Iron Man and Thor - but I think I just like RDJ and Chris Hemsworth.
As for where I watch movies...I don't mind going to theaters (usually Harkins or Alamo Drafthouse), but these days I do prefer just watching from the comfort of my bedroom.

I do most of my movie-watching at home, so going out to a theater is kind of a special treat (or was, or will be, I guess - I'm still wary of being among big groups of people). The last movie I saw in a theater was Avengers Endgame, which feels like it was a million years ago, lmao. Watching it with other people was a lot of fun, though! I like seeing/hearing other people's reactions to stuff, especially if we're all experiencing it for the first time.
The last anime movie I watched was Char's Counterattack, which I guess I recommend if you're into Gundam...? but if you are you've probably seen it already, so. I think next on my list is Nausicaa, which has been on my to-watch list for a while and I just recently acquired, so I'm looking forward to that.

i don't know if i have a single favorite movie though. it's probably a tie between interview with the vampire, what we do in the shadows and possession. when it comes to spanish cinema my favorite by far is women on the verge of a nervous breakdown, i'd recommend it for those with a darker sense of humor who enjoy female-centered narratives.
my attention span isn't the best so i love going to the cinema because it helps me focus. streaming with friends is always fun too! as for upcoming movies, i'm dying to go see last night in soho; anya taylor-joy has become one of my favorite actresses. i loved her in the witch, thoroughbreds and emma. she has an amazing range.

I an absolutely a huge fan of seeing movies in theater at least once. I've just never seen a home set up that I feel like can really replicate the experience. In this case experience > comfort to me.
One movie I am really excited about seeing soon is Dune. I absolutely love that book and the cast looks perfect to me. Heard it's got pretty good reviews too!

As far as big favorites, I would say Hocus Pocus - I watch that one every year around Halloween. It's an all time favorite, and there's so many things that I love about it. For Colors-eligible series, I really love 5 Centimeters Per Second. It's a beautiful movie that I tear up about each and every time that I watch it. Everything from the animation to the direction to OST are just beautifully done, the movie is a true masterpiece. Your Name is also beautiful. Finally, I had a lot of fun with Spirited Away, Kiki's Delivery Service and Howl's Movie Castle! They're very cute movies.

No one will see this because I keep waiting until close to post my answers but my fave movies that are actually good are The Handmaiden and The Fall, and my fave movies that are "good" are Speed Racer, Iron Man, and Star Trek IV the one with the whales. Will recommend everyone see any and all of those.
Honorable mention to Pacific Rim which I loooove and kudos to all of you who mentioned it, I miss that glorious period of time where literally every fandom had PacRim AUs coming out the wazoo. Those were good days.
