Colors Chat 81

Finally, school's out for the day. Time to go to your part-time job, get your homework done, or dungeon crawl through the physical manifestation of someone's unconscious psyche. Oh, but wait, the group chat's blowing up! Better see what everyone wants...

Welcome to Colors Chat, where you can chat with your fellow Colors TCG members! For your response to the topic, you'll receive a card rainbow! As a general rule, responses should be around 6 sentences, but if you're a little short that's fine as long as your response is thoughtful. You don't have to answer all the prompts (or any of the prompts at all) as long as your response is on the topic.

This round's topic is.... MOVIES!
Do you have a favorite movie or a movie you re-watch all the time? What kind of genres are your favorite? Favorite actors or directors? Any movies you want to recommend to your fellow Colors players? Is there an upcoming movie you're excited for? Do you prefer to go to the theater or watch at home? Anything movie-related goes!

After you've responded, reply to other players' answers and start up a discussion! You can earn 2 extra random cards by replying to other people, up to 6 bonus cards total. Feel free to have more discussions than that, but you'll only get rewards for your first three conversations. See the first comment on this post for how to obtain your bonus rewards.

Please keep all comments civil and polite. This round ends Sunday, October 31st is closed!.

Due to my bad brain, it's pretty hard for me to watch movies. So when I find one I fall in love with, it feels very good. Knives Out has recently become a real comfort movie for me. The cloudy, foggy weather, the shitbag characters that contrast the ones who are such good people, the tragedy (hint of spoilers) of its mystery... I love it. Daniel Craig & Chris Evans are just so good in it. And I'm very excited for the sequel because of how they're handling it! I cannot wait!

If you haven't seen Knives Out, god I can't recommend it enough.... unless you have emetophobia. Seriously, don't watch then LOL.

On another note, the only time I like going to the movies is when I go to the Alamo theatre. I haven't since the panini started, but god I miss it for the food alone. I think the last time I went was October 2019 when I got to see The Shining on the big screen, which was a dream come true for me. They play a lot of good films that aren't current. 2018 I saw Halloween on Halloween and that was very cool.

I hope I can make it back soon but def not now. That's okay tho; I know the right time will come eventually!

I don't usually watch movies anymore, at least not frequently. Anyway, given that this is Colors, I probably should give some movie recommendations that fit — for classics, I absolutely adore Paprika; it's pretty surreal to see how people have been influenced by that movie, but it's honestly very good.

The last anime movie I saw in theaters was Rascal does Not Dream of Dreaming Girl, which is a sequel movie to the Bunny Girl-senpai series and it absolutely made me cry when I watched it alone in theaters. I'd highly reccommend if after watching the series, 100%.

I also got to watch the latest Pokemon movie with a group of friends via a Discord call and it was pretty decent - it's not the best Pokemon movie by miles but it's a fun ride, honestly. (Maybe one day I'll donate like, a deck from it.)

Other anime-related movies I watched recently are the Sailor Moon Eternal movies which I... honestly have mixed feelings on? I don't know if it was just me, but it felt super rushed imo, although it was really, really pretty. I don't know, I just felt very dissatisfied at the end of watching the two movies so I wasn't really sure on how to feel about them overall :|a

And as for upcoming anime movies: I, unfortunately, am looking forward to watching the new SAO movie to see what they added; apparently it's not a straight up adaptation of the Progressive novels as they added a new character for Asuna so I do have interest in that. I also do want to watch BELLE, which is the new Hosoda movie and honestly he's one of my favorite anime movie directors. I also need to actually get off my butt and watch the Evangelion Rebuild movies... but time... I'm probably missing a bunch but this is tl;dr as it is already ahah.

Oh, I'm a big fan of movies! Kind of silly, but some movies that I used to watch constantly were the National Treasure series! They've got a special place in my heart, honestly. I've always thought about going on some cool national or international treasure hunt, and how fun it would be to solve the clues! I'm pretty sure that series and a few other shows have prompted my love for escape rooms.

I definitely enjoy going to the movie theater when I can! I don't go too often, so it's always a treat if I can bring a friend along! If I remember correctly, the last two movies I saw in theaters were the Sonic live-action and the Harley Quinn movies back-to-back before the pandemic- I enjoyed both of them!

As of this moment, I'm actually watching the Scooby Doo! Meets Courage the Cowardly Dog movie too!

Another silly fun fact: I know the entirety of Shrek 2 by heart. I used to loop it when I was a kid- it's fine.

I do super poorly with movies, especially non-animated ones: bad things happening to 'real people' distress me. And I have a super bad case of secondhand embarrassment, so romcoms are a no go. I also have no attention span for anime these days, so an hour or two hour long movie is definitely right out...

That said, the last time I was in a theater was to see Bungou Stray Dogs: Dead Apple with a visiting internet friend, and that was super fun! Even if I did have to get an Uber for like an hour and a half. I'd be happy to see another anime movie in theaters once, you know, the plague is over.

i feel this re: non-animated movies... or at least, just being bad at them in general, albeit for like, completely different reasons than your own. honestly having no attention span is also a mood but personally it's helped me to watch with friends on discord as that helps my attention span a lot bc we can chat while watching the movie but also not like being outright disruptive.

Hmmm, I think it always depends. There are a few movies I could easily rewatch multiple times: The Thing, Avengers: Infinity War, Guardians of the Galaxy, ect. I think it always depends what a movie offers for me to have that effect.

My Fav Genre though is horror. Especially Practical effect creature flicks. Honestly, any movie with crazy stuff like that always is fun; The Thing, The Blob, The Fly, Honestly if it has The in it, I might go "oh gee i gotta see what The looks like". I also really like Slashers, like those good old camp ones 😙👌 Like I dont expect anything groundbreaking or good, but creatives deaths man or just stuff like that.

Before Covid/Moving, I used to go to the theature atleast once a week, sometimes more depending on what was playing. I loved it, got me to see so many fun films, a lot that I wouldnt have scene otherwise (and/or not rewatch) but also a good reason to get someone to watch something I would want to see that THEY might not want to (Took someone to the Lighthouse, loved it... they did not lol). Even though theatures are opening up again, we arnt getting as many films as we were IMO, and where I live now doesn't have the same theatre I used to go to, so the "pay xx a month for unlimited movies regardless of new or not" deal isnt around for me anymore. RIP

I'm not much of a movie person, but my favorite movie is Pacific Rim! It's just a lot of fun to watch and I adore the two main characters. Mako Mori is the best ok. I don't do well with horror/suspense so I tend to gravitate towards action or more slice-of-life stuff like Kimi no na wa!

Also, special shout out to Promare! I watched it with a friend in late 2019/early 2020 at her house and it was such a fun experience. I have fond memories of it and I absolutely love the characters!!

I don't get to go to the movies nearly as much as I'd like since the panini (I'm calling it that from now on) started. When I do, though, I do love seeing stuff at Silverspot. It's similar to Alamo Drafthouse; it's also five minutes from my house versus driving 45 minutes to the closest Alamo, lol.

Now that it's spooky season, I've got to rec my favorite horror movie, Ready or Not. The non-spoiler summary is that Grace, our heroine, marries into a family with a tradition for people marrying into it: they play a game. It quickly turns spooky from there, but the movie's not just scary. It's legitimately funny, and the ensemble cast is great. That's all I'm going to say, because anything else would spoil what's honestly a really fun ride.

Hmmm... Movies. I feel like I don't watch a lot of movies? The last one I saw in theaters was Promare in 4DX (very recently) and before that the third Heaven's Feel movie... I don't remember what the last live-action movie I saw in theaters was, but it might've been Knives Out? We also recently rewatched Pacific Rim here at the house, but hilariously I'm MEGA SCARED of the kaiju so like I spent half of it looking away..... I kinda half want this book I've been into to get adapted into a movie, only it'd totally be way too gory on a screen for me to watch. I can't do scary movies at all, by the way, so this time of year is like NOPE about movies for me! My wife really loves horror, though.

my fave movie is repo! the genetic opera lol. i've seen it uhhhhhh at least 10 times? also love labyrinth and seen it as many times, nightmare before christmas too. never get sick of them lol. other films i love are antiviral, cool world it's shitty i know don't @ me, romeo + juliet, perfect blue, ex machina... i... also like the resident evil and silent hill films (the first one's of each franchise, and while i love the og series they're based on i also enjoy them as their own things lol)

my fave genre is horror :,) while not a genre per se, i also really enjoy all forms of animation! sci-fi and fantasy are my jams too

for directors i enjoy guillermo del toro, and uhhhh i guess i also like studios? like ghibli and laika?

for colors-relevant films, perfect blue, the evangelion films, promare, and little nemo are all great!

uhhh i'm a cheap ass so i don't really go out for movies lol. i guess i prefer to watch at home? i'm not looking forward to any films bc i'm not in the loop or aware of stuff. i'm tentatively hoping the labyrinth sequel will be good if that's still a thing...? :,)

my favorite movie of all time is all three lord of the rings movies (extended edition), because if you watch all of them in one sitting it counts as one movie, right? lotr was super formative for me growing up; my dad read the hobbit and the lotr books to me when i was younger, and then we saw the movies together as they came out. i've seen them so many times i think i have them all memorized.

and recently, the demon slayer movie! it was actually my first exposure to the anime, since i usually stick to reading manga (a manga chapter is shorter than an anime episode so it works better for my attention span), but it was so incredible i had to go back and watch the anime afterward. i knew what was going to happen since i had read the manga, but it still had me at the edge of my seat. the soundtrack and animation really added beautifully to the story.

also coco is my favorite disney/pixar movie and i have a lot of big feelings about it, but ratatouille is also extremely good

i hadn't seen the extended editions until last year-ish cause my boyfriend is a huge fan and i loved them, i'm hoping to get around to the books sometime since i've heard characterization is somewhat different. who are your faves? and it's so sweet that you bonded with your father over it!

i will always shill for inception as my favourite movie, but also my favourite genre of movies are always heist/thriller movies - i love movies like ocean's eleven, ocean's eight, the thieves, now you see me... they're all so good!!!

fun fact: i have memorised the entire english dub of the digimon movie and it lives in my head rent free. i hate it. but i also love it, it encapsulates my childhood so well.

OOF gosh, I don't know where to start. There's my fandoms, of course. I'm really big into Star Wars, the MCU, and Star Trek. Really excited for the upcoming Trek movie, even though details haven't slipped by yet.

As far as comfort movies go, what I watch when I feel really blah, is a toss between The Fifth Element and Apollo 13. Odd choices perhaps, but I'm a sucker for (in the former) true love and (in the latter) managing to succeed no matter how bad things become. Plus, they're just good movies.

I'm also into things like Princess Bride, Sucker Punch, Attack the Block, Ex Machina, Ghost in the Shell (the original film), and so on.

On a different topic, the only movie I've seen in theaters since COVID started was The Hitman's Bodyguard's Wife. Before that, it was the most recent Star Wars movie, The Rise of Skywalker. Still, I don't terribly miss the theater, in general.

i used to watch two to three movies over the weekend years ago after making a list of LGBTQ movies to go through. after i made it through that list, i switched to watching a horror movie almost every night and to be honest, it usually ends up background noise for me these days! i write roleplay tags a lot during my evenings since i lack a lot of free time lately, so when i do watch a movie and actually pay attention to it, i like to watch it with a friend of my partner. recently, i watched the devil's backbone though, and since i had only ever seen it marketed as a ghost story, the real horror surprised me a great deal. i didn't find the ghost aspect of the movie particularly scary, as well, but the real monster of the movie was terrifying. of course, i guess that's what you get with guillermo de toro— two of my favorite movies are the shape of water and crimson peak.

the last movie i saw in theaters was the nun, and i saw with my partner on our first date; i have this weird weakness for bottled sodas at the concession stand so i try not to go to the theater very much... hilariously: i went because i thought that perfect blue was playing! our plan was to see that in a theater, but it didn't work out. perfect blue is one of my favorite movies of all time, and satoshi kon is dearly missed. i look forward to christmas because i know tokyo godfathers will be on cable television honestly...

ryan and i just made plans to rewatch ponyo actually, which i am bizarrely fond of because i love movies with lots of water in them. animated movies in particular!! there's just something about how people draw water that i find so beautiful. do you guys have any recommendations for something in that area?

guillermo del toro is one of my favorite directors! crimson peak is actually the one movie of his that i haven't seen, but it's definitely on my list. gothic horror/romance is a neat genre. i really enjoy the themes he tends to address in his movies, and visually his stuff is always stunning. i got to see the exhibit on his work when it was at the LACMA and it was one of the coolest art exhibits i'd ever been to.

I don't actually watch all that many movies now that I think about it. The last major film release I remember watching in theaters was Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. It's an absolutely stunningly beautiful movie, though there are a lot of strobe effects, so please be careful watching it. When it was on Netflix, I let it go on in the background so often.

I've been meaning to watch the Venom sequel because I definitely want that fever dream quality of Tom Hardy in a lobster tank and trying to eat a live lobster part 2. It's just been difficult to find the correct time to go out and actually watch something when I have game obligations.

I like the atmosphere of a theater, but I'm so bad at actually leaving my house...

I'm gonna be super basic here, but I absolutely love the Harry Potter movie franchise. I don't care much for the author of the original books because of...things that I refuse to publicly talk about, but I never get sick of watching the movies. And, though it's kinda childish because it's a Disney movie franchise, I love the Descendants movies. Yeah, it's not exactly an original idea - and they're honestly super cheesy - but...sometimes you just want something cute.

Other than those movies that I probably enjoy more out of something akin to nostalgia, I do like The Avengers...mostly because of Iron Man and Thor - but I think I just like RDJ and Chris Hemsworth.

As for where I watch movies...I don't mind going to theaters (usually Harkins or Alamo Drafthouse), but these days I do prefer just watching from the comfort of my bedroom.

My favorite movie hands-down is The Lion King. I...have it memorized line for line and I wasn't even trying to do so...? but it has a very special place in my heart and it's one of those that, every now and again, I'll see some discussion on it that will give me a whole new appreciation for one aspect of it or another. It's just a really gorgeous movie and I love it a lot.

I do most of my movie-watching at home, so going out to a theater is kind of a special treat (or was, or will be, I guess - I'm still wary of being among big groups of people). The last movie I saw in a theater was Avengers Endgame, which feels like it was a million years ago, lmao. Watching it with other people was a lot of fun, though! I like seeing/hearing other people's reactions to stuff, especially if we're all experiencing it for the first time.

The last anime movie I watched was Char's Counterattack, which I guess I recommend if you're into Gundam...? but if you are you've probably seen it already, so. I think next on my list is Nausicaa, which has been on my to-watch list for a while and I just recently acquired, so I'm looking forward to that.

oh, nausicaa is a beautiful movie and i really enjoyed it when i watched it too! i do love all of ghibli's films and while nausicaa isn't my favourite hayao miyazaki film (i'm basic and spirited away holds that for me) it's really got the feel that i absolutely enjoy.

i love watching disney movie meta on youtube too, especially of the renaissance films!! the lion king is excellent and i listen to the soundtrack very fondly all the time too

i've been becoming a bit of a movie nerd in the past few years, but horror has always been my favorite genre! although i admit i have different standards for it compared to other genres since there's a lot of mediocre (but fun!) stuff. is grave encounters good? Not Really. do i rewatch it every couple years? yeah...

i don't know if i have a single favorite movie though. it's probably a tie between interview with the vampire, what we do in the shadows and possession. when it comes to spanish cinema my favorite by far is women on the verge of a nervous breakdown, i'd recommend it for those with a darker sense of humor who enjoy female-centered narratives.

my attention span isn't the best so i love going to the cinema because it helps me focus. streaming with friends is always fun too! as for upcoming movies, i'm dying to go see last night in soho; anya taylor-joy has become one of my favorite actresses. i loved her in the witch, thoroughbreds and emma. she has an amazing range.

MOVIES YOU SAY

[personal profile] pcrtiallystcrs 2021-10-26 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I have a hard time focusing on movies, personally? I need someone to watch them with me or I'll get up and fidget. Even then, I need something else to do most of the time, like my laptop or something. But a movie I really enjoy is Practical Magic, and I always do a little bit better with animated movies than anything. Musicals are also good because the songs give me more to focus on and are also just catchy... I need to watch the Demon Slayer movie still, too!

clasps your hands... You and me, same brain. I basically only watch movies (or anything else) when friends physically sit me down and watch them through with me. Otherwise, everything goes on my "to watch" list which I never actually get through because of ADHD brain.

I love movies! I find it really hard to pin down favorites but ones I have watched on repeat throughout my life are LOTR Trilogy, Aladdin, A Knights Tale, Legally Blond, and Fifth Element. I'm not exceptionally picky about genre though I'm pretty picky when it comes to romcom movies.

I an absolutely a huge fan of seeing movies in theater at least once. I've just never seen a home set up that I feel like can really replicate the experience. In this case experience > comfort to me.

One movie I am really excited about seeing soon is Dune. I absolutely love that book and the cast looks perfect to me. Heard it's got pretty good reviews too!

I really don't watch a lot of movies! I watch one with friends every once in awhile and that's about it, and unfortunately I tend to forget a lot of them. Unfortunately, I can't think of a single movie that I'm looking forward to right now either - I'd like to say the final Madoka Magica movie, but I'm pretty sure that's fake and they're just going to keep teasing us with the prospect of it forever.

As far as big favorites, I would say Hocus Pocus - I watch that one every year around Halloween. It's an all time favorite, and there's so many things that I love about it. For Colors-eligible series, I really love 5 Centimeters Per Second. It's a beautiful movie that I tear up about each and every time that I watch it. Everything from the animation to the direction to OST are just beautifully done, the movie is a true masterpiece. Your Name is also beautiful. Finally, I had a lot of fun with Spirited Away, Kiki's Delivery Service and Howl's Movie Castle! They're very cute movies.
