Colorseum Pokemon Special - preliminaries part 1

Welcome, players. I am Cynthia, the Pokemon Champion, and I will be taking over the Colorseum from Elizabeth for the duration of the new special tournament - the Pokemon Special.

- The Pokemon Special will be a World Cup-styled tournament, with 32 participants, a group stage and a knockout stage for the top 16.
- In various rounds, there may be up to 8 battles at the same time.
- Please avoid bribes in this tournament. It's more of a popularity poll than an actual competition.
- As usual you decide who will advance to the next round by casting your votes.
- Tied matches in group stage will remain as ties. In the knockout stages the tiebreakers will be based on everyone's performance in the group stage.
- Before the main tournament begins, we will do massive preliminaries to choose the 32 participants.

Now, let's move on to the actual event.


PRELIMINARIES
To start the tournament, we have to go from around 900 available Pokemon to just 32. That is a tough task. Here's how it will look:
- Each type gets 1 or 2 places in the tournament. Most (14) types will get 2 places, except Normal, Bug, Flying and Fairy, they only get 1.
- For each part of the preliminaries, I will give you 4 or 5 types of Pokemon.
- You will list your nominations by selecting five Pokemon of each of those types.
- The 1 or 2 Pokemon of each type with most nominations will advance to the main tournament.
- Dual-type Pokemon can be nominated twice, once for each of the types.
- No 2 Pokemon from the same evolutionary family can advance. That includes the Eeveelutions. You can nominate more, but only 1 may go through.
- No 2 starters from the same type may advance, regardless of their evolutionary stage. You can nominate more, but only 1 may go through.
- No 2 legendaries from the same type may advance. You can nominate more, but only 1 may go through.
- Alternate regional versions and mega evolutions do not count, even if they change the type of the Pokemon.

Remember, you can nominate five Pokemon for each type. You can nominate less, but why would you do that.
