Congratulations to the winners of last month's round!

This month, to celebrate Vinland Saga *finally* getting an anime, we are off an a Viking adventure!

Because this round is being posted so late in the month, the deadline to finish the tasks will be June 9th, rather than the end of the month. (May 10 edit: I've added some additional details about the relevant dates for each task, sorry about the confusion! Also, I'll allow all the games/trades for each task from May 1st onwards~)

The object of the Pot of Gold is to complete different "tasks" that will be different every month. You'll get small rewards for completing them individually, but receive bonuses if you manage to complete all of them. How much of the rainbow can you complete?

- Everything collected and turned in for these tasks must be done and logged in between May ~~9th~~ 1st and June 9th. So you've only got ~~one month~~ a month and nine days!

- When commenting here after completing a task, make sure you label your subject with "Completed", as well as the number of the task you finished. Also, make sure you let me know if you've completed all of them so I can give you your extra reward!

- Please give me a link to your logs with every comment you make. Also, make sure you link me all the stuff that I need to check.

- I might be able to pass out most of the prizes (excluding the grand prize) before the end of the month, so please tell me (with a note in your subject or comment) if you want them earlier.

- Pot of Gold tasks can only be turned in when the round is open, so that means that after 12:01PM EST on December 1st, you can't turn in anything even if your tasks were completed and logged in November! Even if you were on hiatus. It's just like with normal games, you can't reply to them once the round closes. If you need to fix a link or clarify something after this time, please reply to your comment; do not edit your comment after the deadline!

- Also, most of the prizes you obtain from Pot of Gold are valid for a set period of time. Special deck donations, however, are an exception - think of them as tickets that you can turn in regardless of when it was won.

1. RED TASK
	Why look, it's Canute! Hmm, wonder where we've seen that name before... Task: Tell us about the origin of your Dreamwidth user name! If it happens to be the same as your player name, talk about your player name instead. Reward: 5 cards

2. ORANGE TASK

Gudrid is a very determined young woman - she has left her small town and joined Thorfinn and co to go explore the world. She's met many new people during her adventures.

Task: Trade with 6 players this month. Trades that began before May 1st but are completed May 1st onwards are allowed, and similarly trades that begin before June 9th but are completed after June 9th are also allowed.

Reward: 7 cards and 1 crayon

3. YELLOW TASK
	After little baby Karli was orphaned, Thorfinn and company decided to bring him along for their adventures. He has visited many places in his short life. Task: Visit at least four services this month (art studio, art shop, levels, deck donation, recycled art, etc.) This task may overlap with the purple and green tasks. Reward: 5 cards and 1 crayon

4. GREEN TASK
	Thors is well-known as the strongest and bravest warrior in all the Viking world. While we're not Viking warriors, let's show him we are great TCG players! Task: Master two decks this month. Reward: 6 cards and 1 crayon

5. BLUE TASK
	Thorfinn, son of Thors, seems to have inherited his father's fighting skills as he too is a very powerful warrior. Let's also show him that we are the mightiest TCG players!! \o/ Task: Level up or gain 100 cards this month. Reward: 5 cards

6. PURPLE TASK
	Askeladd is a very clever and, er, wily man. Let's show off our cleverness as well. Task: Play 10 knowledge-based or puzzle-based games this month! (basically any game where the results are screened) Reward: 8 cards and 1 crayon

7. BROWN TASK

It is around the time that Einar is introduced that the pace of the series changes significantly. From Viking adventures to farming, what is going on?

Task: Turn in two different cards of the same colour. Each card must originate from series that are very different from the other (e.g. one card from a cute fluffy magical girl series, another card from a horribly graphic game). Briefly talk about how the two series differ. These cards do NOT have to be earned in May. You will lose these cards.

Reward: 6 cards

8. GRAY TASK

Thorkell just loves violence! Look at that smile on his face! While I suspect most of us don't quite share his passion for violence, I think it's safe to say we all at least like anime/manga. But since this round features a series that is currently only available as a manga...

Task: Talk about your favourite manga! If you haven't read any manga, talk about a series you would like to read.

Reward: 5 cards + 1 crayon

You can earn up to a total of 47 cards and 5 crayons for completing the tasks this month!

Completing all the tasks will earn you an additional 16 random cards, 5 random crayons and the GRAND PRIZE!

along the same vein as youchi's question and also possibly stupid but for the purple task are you counting only games that get posted on/after the 9th?

edit: that is to say i responded to games from before the 9th already but also they haven't been closed/been judged yet so. ... anyways in retrospect this probably is a VERY stupid question but i just want to Make Sure.

As long as you post your response to the game between May 1 - June 9 (I updated the time window), it counts! Even if the game was posted before May 1st, that is fine!

If you complete all the Pot of Gold tasks, you can pick one of two grand prizes! The grand prize will be in the form of a coupon (something that looks like this - I haven't had a chance to make them for this round yet) If you choose grand prize A (double rewards for 5 masteries), then you'll get the grand prize A coupon. You can then use it when submitting masteries to get double the prize for each mastery, so rather than the default 2 cards, 1 choice card and 1 crayon you normally get for each deck mastered, you would get 4 cards, 2 choice cards and 2 crayons. The coupon will allow you to do this for five masteries in total, and you don't have to use all five at once! Here's an example of someone using a coupon with masteries. Grand prize B is similar but with sketchpads instead of masteries!

For the brown task, you will lose the cards! Sorry, it wasn't clear at all in the description. Hahaha that's what I get for doing this in a rush /o\

		Gray Task: Complete! Talk about your favourite manga! x HELLO AND LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT SHUT HELL. It's a historical fantasy with supernatural elements set right around when the Mongols got the ball rolling on that whole horde thing. Fair warning, it's pretty violent, and there are sexual themes! but if that isn't something to turn you away, the art is gorgeous, the writing is fantastic, and it's also complete at 90 chapters! If you're here for an emotional thrill ride with gorgeous watercolor spreads, this may very well be the manga for you! (please get into my canon this fandom is so small)

The other is a series about all types of "horror" lore characters fighting eachother. The girl I showed is usually very nice and sweet (for good chunks of the series.) and the guy is an edgelord waifu-man who wants everyone destroyed by a floating fetus. Are they similar?.... wait crap maybe they are!

Briefly talk about how the two series differ. pisces08, yaoifan02 Starry Sky is a serious otome video game where you pick a guy and try to woo him. They're all based on constellations. Osomatsu-san is a comedy anime about six brothers with short little skits describing what sort of awful things they get into. The character in the yaoifan card is a genderswapped version of one of the main characters and only shows up 2-3 times, while the character in pisces is a main character and one of the romance options.


		Gray Task: Complete! Talk about your favourite manga! Hoshi no Samidare is my favorite manga of all time. It's about a man who wakes up with a talking lizard and he has to support a "princess" in her quest to stop golems from destroying the world. Except the princess wants to destroy the world herself, and the man agrees. I cannot write a summary to save my life, and I make it sound way more lame than it i, but trust me when I say this is one of the best manga I have ever red. It has such excellent character development and writing, it's utterly hilarious at points, and even the art develops with the story itself. It's wonderful, I highly recommend you read it.

So a few years back there was a game called "Glitch" - it was a sort of resource-farming, community-type exploration game that was free to play. It was a really cute game! Something you could do was bootleg hooch by using a distiller (this was a pretty wild game OK) and if you made enough hooch then you got the achievement title of being Hoochmeister. I did a lot in this game but I think one of the #1 things I did was just bootleg hooch, all day every day. So I'm a hoochmeister now.

Briefly talk about how the two series differ. berserker15 & biblestudy18, both blue. berserker is from G Gundam, which is according to my girlfriend the only good Gundam that exists. It is also barely a Gundam in that they fight in big Mobile Suit Gundams but like, they're not really conventional Gundams? They're controlled by people in plugsuits fistfighting each other like this is Zoids except Zoids came afterwards so actually Zoids is copying G Gundam. There is also a man with a horse Gundam that is controlled by the horse that he rides. The actual horse. Anyway it's literally just a shounen tourney fighter except with giant robots. biblestudy is from Discipline, which is apparently not actually a VN but an IF? Anyway it's about a dude who has a Super High School Level Penis. He's really good at sex. Then he moves to go to a boarding school that is mostly comprised of women? This girl in specific is part of the Bible study crew and she seems to be best girl, or at least canon girl to some extent? She wanted to do the do with the guy but then he dicked it so hard that he got premature ejaculation and needed that to be fixed. He dicked it so much because everyone wanted his dick and wanted him to become their sex slave. This dude's life seems to be very hard.


		Gray Task: In Progress For the Rest of My Life, But Completed! For This Pot of Gold Talk about your favourite manga! Hi my favorite manga is called Vinland Saga did you know it's getting an anime? It's being produced by Wit Studio it's pretty cool and I'm really interested in seeing who the voice actors are going to be. It's a historical manga that's pretty gruesome so it's not for the faint of heart, but if you don't mind that or you're into that then it's a pretty thrilling story, honestly a goddamn masterpiece. Did you know it's by Yukimura Makoto, the author of Planetes? Right, that's a very good manga. Surely you know that manga. If you don't then don't go looking to me about it because I'm here to talk about Vinland Saga. See, Vinland Saga is exactly like the title says, but there's a lot of spoilers that reach that point so what I will say is that it is the story of a boy named Thorfinn, who became a viking due to his desire and quest for vengeance, for his father having been killed in front of him. He has to go through a lot though in order to even reach this point, and he ends up being raised by his father's killer. IT'S FUCKED UP. Eventually he has to be a bodyguard for a Danish prince named Canute. Do you know that name??? HmmmMMMmm. Anyway lots of stuff happens. Please read my manga. By the way, due to the nature of this story it seems like there wouldn't be a lot of badass women but you're WRONG THERE ARE A LOT so please read my manga.

Vinland Sagaaaa ♥ So fun fact my friend and I cosplayed the series at a con a couple weekend ago (I was Canute and she was Thorfinn). Maybe about 15 people recognized us... ;; Also I did his outfit from when he is first introduced, with the red cloak and the helmet, and a lot of people thought I was Thor........ I mean I can sort of see why but I still died a little on the inside every time.

UHHH THIS ONE IS A HARD ONE I rarely read manga, but I'll have to go with Mob Psycho 100 from what I did read (Mogami Arc) because I absolutely loved it. I mean to read the entire thing one of these days. I love all of the characters in this thing, and the series manages to be both suspenseful and humorous.

		Gray Task: Complete Talk about your favourite manga! GREY: My favourite manga is Gintama. Part of it is nostalgia—it's the first manga I ever read, because I picked up one of the Shounen Jump magazines that used to come out here monthly and it was being premiered in like... 2006? I want to say 2006. I don't know why I loved it so much at that age, but I did. Now it's on hiatus and "finished" while the mangaka "researches" but Gintama is notorious for fake endings. What I love the most about it is that it's primarily a comedy series, absolutely ridiculous and insane, and when the plot strikes it's guaranteed to mess with you emotionally. Rather than the other big shounen series', most of Gintama's serious arcs are pretty short and it can go a hundred chapters without seeing the big bad guy. But that's not a flaw to me—it's extremely refreshing, honestly, because I'm here for the stupid. It means a lot to me. The last few arcs have finally hit the endgame of the main plot so I actually miss the stupid more than anything, but I figure it'll be back soon enough. I really need to get around to finally reading Gintama, I've seen random clips of the anime and it seems hilarious. I know for a while English scanlations were behind but it looks like things are caught up?

Each card must originate from series that are very different from the other. opelucid16 and vendor20 (gray) opelucid16 is from pokemon which is a massive family friendly franchise about collecting and battling/(breeding/dressing up/whatever honestly) cute creatures and traveling the world. vendor20 is from the zero escape series which is about some person named "Zero" who kidnaps people, traps them, and forces them all to play "a game of life and death" in order to escape. basically it's really not family friendly.

While both are from videogame series, the first is from a game directed at children, and the other ~~IS DEFINITELY NOT INTENDED FOR CHILDREN~~ supposedly for adults. Essentially, Mario is a cute, nostalgic game, while Silent Hill is gory, graphic, and has mature themes.

I'm going to be lame and say that I don't know that I have a favourite manga... but one I like to go back to every once in a while is Hanazakari no Kimitachi E (Hanakimi). It's cute and funny and has a relatively long but interesting story arc, without getting too filler-y. Also the characters are all pretty so there's that. ~~Also the YGO manga but that's already been talked about SO.~~
