Release 013 - Golden Week

May. It is the month when this community was made and prejoin started. My brain was fried from writing my thesis, so somehow I thought it would be brilliant to start a multifandom TCG (when I was supposed to be writing my thesis). I wasn't actually going to start it because it was just some half baked idea, a sudden whim, but after some encouragment, I made some mock cards and set up this community (all while procrastinating on editing). I thought I would aim for a nice and simple TCG, with a goal of 20 members. Really, I just wanted to make a few mock cards.

Before I move on to other news, here is your monthly zip of new cards. Below the first LJ cut, there is important info about member list cleaning. Please do give it a read!

♥ Member List Cleaning ♥
As we are nearing our anniversary month (June), that means we are soon going to hit our second year! This also means that dates for the inactive members section are soon going to loop around, and then we won't be able to tell if they last updated in 2010 or in 2011, which is... quite ridiculous? When June rolls around, I will be clearing all members who have dead links and who haven't updated since April of this year. Once cleared, members who wish to play again will have to rejoin and start from scratch. If you have any friends who are listed under "inactive", you might want to let them know this! I will most likely not be individually notifying inactive players unless another mod would like to help do so.

Members who are cleared this way will not have their cards added to Recycled Art. For members who wish to continue playing but cannot do so at the moment, please declare a hiatus over at the Information Change post so that we know you intend to return. For those who wish to officially quit before June rolls around, please also do this at the Information Change post. Your cards will then be added to Recycled Art.

After this, our member count will be much more accurate!

♥ Deviantart Club ♥
With so many talented artists and writers around, I really, really wanted more people to stumble on your creative works. I started a Deviantart club for Colors that I would love to see populated with art and fic of the Colors Universe if any of you are willing to share over there too. Traffic will probably still be the same (from TCG members and I suppose, from any of your watchers! Might make for extra publicity even?), but it would be amazing if Colors were to spread as a fandom. ♥ I do not frequent DA all that much myself and have very little clue about how clubs work. I've only just changed it so people... can actually join! *headdesk* So yeah, if anyone would like to step up as the administrator (co-founder, or something like that?) for the DA club, that would be absolutely fantastic! I'm mostly just hoping it'd be a second place for people to share art and fic. Right now there isn't even a club icon since I'd like to use something that players (who drew the art) are fine with me using! I did mention using the art for the TCG, but nothing about on other sites, so. :')

I also created a folder for "other fanart"... like for art of... yourself or other TCG members? Or TCG jokes? I don't know. It is the catch all folder. XD; Maybe someone will draw me my favorite characters with fishbones? Need more fishbone icons.

Random question of the month! Special decks can be visually distinguished (by their solid border and by the fact that they use two colors), but they can't be distinguished through their file names. (You kind of just have to remember they're special decks). Would it help if special decks had some sort of different naming scheme for their file names? (Such as sp_yellow01.gif instead of yellow01). The deck name would still be the same on the card, but their file names would have an sp in front. Something like that. Or is this completely unnecessary, or do you not care either way? Let us know your thoughts, and you can then snatch a special card of your choice! Unless opinions are predominantly "yes, it'd be helpful!" mixed with perhaps "I don't care either way", no changes will be made. :3

Er, I don't really want them to have the title special_doodoohead05 Mainly because to some people ,special cards are just like normal cards, lol. Plus, then I think wouldn't we need to change all our already uploaded files? id hate that, I just don't know if its really needed

Regarding special decks, I think that it's just fine to leave the naming of special cards as is. Primarily because naming them differently would just drive me mad when coding cards and remembering which are which. After I save my card files, I run off of a notepad to add my cards into everything. As a result, I leave it to memory which ones to put into the special cards area.
In addition, some players simply don't sort out their specials and leave them intermixed.

However: I would not be opposed to this change if it were implemented.

I think since the special cards are visually more distinct than regular cards, i don't see a reason to rename then. Then again, for me I don't ...or wouldn't differentiate them from my other trading cards on my page because it's too much work and people should be able to tell by looking if it's special or not. If you didn't have so many special decks by this point, I'd say go for it, but it seems kind of unnecessary to me!

I think that the special card filenames are fine as they are now :D A lot of people know which decks are special and if they don't they can just look at the deck list. Also, the borders make it easy to tell anyway so I think it's good the way it is!

Hmm I am fine with leaving special names as they are. Though I think some people might find it helpful if they cannot say they're specials (some of the cards do have similar colors on borders). I understand that some people treat specials as normal cards but it might be helpful when it comes to games like crazy colors or coloring book where you get more cards in trading in your special. I guess renaming them would be helpful after all. If we don't have to rename the cards we already have then I say go for it. I'll take silhouettes02.

As for release decks, I'll take cuatra06, iceblue02, shujaa11, cascade02, acrobat01, whaleshark02, henshin06, yellow19 (donated). I will come back for the last 2. I am waiting for my friend to let me know what to take. Thanks!

Hmm, I don't know, I can usually tell if a card is special or not because of the borders, but I do understand that sometimes it might be difficult so the different naming might be a big help. I can live with it either way, haha. Taking odyssey14, thank you!

Don't frequent DeviantArt much at all, but I hope that takes off as well. Who knows what'll happen! \o/

As for me, when I update my post with cards, I always check the cards list to make sure I place them under the proper color name in my trading decks (even when I'm sure of the color because... one can never be too sure as I've made mistakes before! Like wanting to put a "green" card in the green section when it's a special card.) So, I don't really mind either way whether there's a change in the file names, since I'm always checking the cards list out of habit anyway. :3

I think it's fairly easy to tell for most cards if they're special or not (although I have made mistakes before, but mostly because I lazy ._.). Not to mention it might get potentially confusing/laborious if people had to rename all their special cards, or had half their special cards renamed and half unnamed, and so forth. So I don't think it's necessary, per se.

Taking cascade01, shujaa10, acrobat05, cuarta08, curse02, algorithm09, empathy04, empress02, yellow02, gakuen13 for my opinion, thank you!

I think the differences should remain visual only, maybe they should be more visible, naming changes would mostly cause trouble and inconsistency in posts. Taking Henshin04 for that.

As for renaming the special decks, I don't think that's necessary. Might be because I've been a player for a few months and I know which decks are special, but people already have many special cards in their card posts and the old, "unmarked" cards would still remain indistinguishable, unles there's a way to make all players update their links. And as specia ldecks are (in theory) worth as much as character decks, I don't think that's much of an issue...

Maybe it's because I've been around since the special cards first started coming out, so I've been able to add the names of special decks incrementally to my mind, and thus it's easier for me to remember even when just looking at the name but...

I don't think it's necessary to change the naming convention of the special cards. I can distinguish them just fine, and I think new players will become used to them eventually. Besides, all of the special decks feature different characters for each card, it's not that difficult to distinguish them from character decks.
