Colors Anniversary Day 20 - back in my day anime was real

Hi everyone! This year's anniversary event is nearing its end and for the second to last day, let's get back to the past! No, not the beginning of this month to get extra prizes although that would be nice too. Today's topic is retro series!

Tell us about your favorite old series! and i'll be taking notes How do you define old? I usually go with "at least from the 90s", but if you're not into anything like that, tell us about the oldest series you are into. Or maybe one of your fandoms is an adaptation or new content based on of much older manga or game? Not into old stuff at all? Tell us why!

For answering you'll get sixsational20 and retro cards - you can take two choice cards from decks that have been released at least three years ago. June release of 2013 is the newest these choice cards can be. Please state what you're taking in your comment.

This game, like all anniversary games, will close on July 1, noon GMT!

i'm so bad at this cos i'm actually pretty new to anime in terms of exposure... i've only been actively watching anime for like 4 or 5 yrs now... i missed the boat when pokemon and sailor moon was all the rage, so i missed a lot of growing up with anime.

so i guess... that my answer would have to be cowboy bebop or naruto? i think they're the oldest things i enjoy haha.

my choice cards will be enforcer04 and enforcer06 :^D

i think my favorite oldest anime is sailor moon. it's one of the earliest i remember eagerly following on tv thought i didnt know it was of japanese origin, i just liked watching every cartoon that came on tv. i was also into digimon, pokemon & cardcaptors you know what every 90's kid barely discovering anime watched. i also remember lesser known ones like medabots & flint the time detective. when i started getting deep into my anime phase i branched into like inuyasha & rurouni kenshin. but i still feel like i want to eventually go back and check out more of the classic 90's/early 2000's stuff i feel i missed out on like gundam wing & slayers.

besides that i also do want to go back even further into even more classic series like rose of versailles & old school magical girl shows. i find the 70's shoujo style charming. i also want to start legend of the galatic heroes eventually. i'm just intimidated by it's length. i should read some go nagai too.

but yeah i'm pretty much open to any show from regardless of era as long as it's good & interesting.

taking moon05 & moon14 (of course!)

I really like Saint Seiya! Thats a 70s series :B so I call it old. Mmm for me, I go with 80s and 70s series, since most people haven't seen those series hahaha. But I used to watch a few other older shows, like Dororon Enma-kun (70s), Mahou no Princess Minky Momo (90s), Anmitsu Hime (80s), and of course, the classic Gundams! I also loved watching anything that World Masterpiece Theater made (a lot of 80s and early 90s though)

Recently, they have been adapting Jojo into Anime, though the yare on part 4 now, and that's a 90s comic series, still very happy to see that! Next month, Berserk comes out in Anime, and thats another late 80s series I really love! I have been looking forward to the new anime, since its FINALLY gonna give us the non Golden Age arc.

may I have brute01, dubhe05?

GUNBUSTER, GUNBUSTERRRRRR

ok but for real Gunbuster is good plus it's only six episodes so it's quick to get through. It's especially interested since you can see how the Gainax crew sort of grew from it. Diebuster is fun too! "Old" though, I mean... Evangelion, Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Yu Yu Hakusho, anything that was on Adult Swim back in the day. Akira is worth watching as an anime fan, I think, even though I didn't particularly like it. I have not watched nearly enough 90's and before anime, I need to change that.

GO SPEEDRACER, GO
A 70's classic. I know there were two American TV series based on it but I never could bring myself to watch them. I haven't watch the movie either.

Well I got on the anime boat during Gundam Wing and Sailor Moon. I got hooked once I saw Gundam Wing, and it's still my favorite series. Then another favorite is Doraemon.

I AM BUT A YOUNG FAWN so the earliest one I know is actually pokemon

I SAY THIS BUT I AM NOT THAT YOUNG I just only got into japanese things in.... i think..... 2010 and beyond? so my fandom exposure to anime/manga/games is really short. Pokemon I did get into in 2007 though so it probably counts. xD a good game and I reminisce about it all the time.

Aside from Saturday morning cartoons (Pokemon, Digimon, Yu-Gi-Oh! and I remember catching some magical girl shows like Tokyo Mew Mew and Cardcaptors but I was too into monster battling to pay much attention to them) I didn't really consume much anime/manga until late high school so I missed a good chunk of them, but I read Monster these past few months, and I really liked Akira!!

Gosh, this one is hard. I haven't watched anime very widely so I'm unfamiliar with most of the recent stuff, to say nothing of the older classics. However, I used to follow the Gensomaden Saiyuki anime very avidly in my younger days, and that's...probably the closest thing I have to a "retro" anime experience, ahaha. >.>

Taking pink13, white14 as my choice cards!

I'm not as retro as you so I usually stick to 90s or later stuff. I like some classic action stuff from the 90s like Cowboy Bebop or Trigun or even Dirty Pair that we have to finish one day, and obviously because of you there's Evangelion as well ;;

As for even older stuff I like the old Ghibli movies (and I still have to see some of them) and as majority of Polish people my age I watched the horrible Dragon Ball Z Polish-voice-over-French-dub version on RTL.

Why are most of my decks new? Gonna take violence01/02

Ohhhhhhhh man, I'm a 90s kid and watched a TON of anime as a smol. I lived in San Francisco and loved to visit Japan Town because there was SO MUCH POKEMON AND DIGIMON AND SAILOR MOON STUFF FOR SALE.

Let's get a little more obscure though: My friend had a bunch of the Sanrio cartoons; I keep meaning to find them again and cap them and donate Keroppi WHY DOES NOBODY LOVE KEROPPI.

I also LOVED Medabots, guh~ SO MUCH ANIME IN THE 90S.

The oldest thing I am into is probably...Toward the Terra? It goes way back than just the anime I watched, I'm pretty sure. It had very beautiful music and I enjoyed watching it though it had its startling moments, and I probably have to re-watch it sometime b/c I watched the last episodes half-asleep.

Oh man, the earliest anime I can remember watching is Card Captor Sakura (or just Cardcaptors as it's called here), it used to be on every Saturday morning on CITV! Same thing for Yu-Gi-Oh! I also remember my older sister buying Fruits Basket DVDs and watching them.

I remember rushing home from school just to catch the latest dubbed Sailor Moon episodes xD. It wasn't until middle school I discovered the subbed versions and omg it was just so much better than the dubbed versions. I also watched Cardcaptor Sakura, DN Angel and Fruits Basket.

I could talk about Pokemon, or Digimon. But honestly the most influencial one for me and my life was probably Dragon Ball Z.

I was only a little kid when it was on TV, and I would rush home from primary school every day to get ready and sit with my mum and sister to watch it. We'd wait with excitement for each new saga to be released, and it sort of bound us together! I remember one time, my dad tried to punish me and my sister by telling us that we couldn't watch Dragon Ball Z that night and my mum HIT THE ROOF. It was so great.

Honestly I loved the plot, the characters, the animation, the music, everything about it. ;v;

i think one of the oldest shows i like is lupin III! i never watched it in full, sadly, but i do remember watching a lot of it while it was airing in germany. back in the day when german mtv aired animes.. i really liked the soundtrack, and i do hope that i'll have enough time to watch the entire thing one day. ; _ ;

I'm old. I think my first introduction to anime was Sailor Moon (1992-1997). I use to watch episodes on VHS tapes that my favorite Aunt let me borrow. Let me just tell you that it's not fun to rewind VHS tapes by hand... What really got me interested in anime was Chūka Ichiban! (1997-1998). I loved the over exaggeration of how delicious the dish tasted and the opening song is still one of my favorite songs ever. ♥

Grander Musashi (1997-1998) is what threw me into sport anime hell. I even tried fishing in real-life... it is not the sport for me. LOL. I also grew up with the manhua Old Master Q (1962-present). I had my mom buy them for me whenever I had to go shop for groceries with her. Most of the comics didn't use any words, which was awesome because I couldn't read Chinese, lmao.

Aside from those obscure series, I grew up on the American broadcast of Pokemon, Digimon, Cardcaptor Sakura, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Gundam Wing, etc. Then the internet became more widespread/available and I drowned myself in the Gudam Wing/Yu-Gi-Oh! fandom for a couple of years before I explored other series online. :-d

I like quite a few older series. I didn't really watch anything I consider super retro (before 90's) since I WASNT ALIVE YET. lol

BUUUUTT I enjoy Sailor Moon, Urusei Yatsura, Bowboy Bebop, Seiya Seiya was good (i think thats like a really old one tbh), Tokyo Mew Mew, Yu Yu Hakusho....okay some of hese werent super old ?

I love the hand drawn look thats so fluid and he colors are usually more pastel then the saturated ones we have today. The stories were also really unique back then lol

Grabbing moon01, moon02 thanks!

i remember sailor moon and cardcaptors, and pokemon and digimon? and yu-gi-oh. those are the earliest that got me started. nothing super retro for me, but still very nostalgic to think about! it all just grabbed my attention and sucked me in (especially ccs and the three great monster anime). i was always really weak for supernatural/fantasy things.

Heh, I wouldn't say my anime tastes tend toward the retro too much - that's more my boyfriend's wheelhouse. That said, my all-time favorite manga happens to be Oh My Goddess, which began in 1988 and, being one of those insanely long-running manga series, that only came to a close in 2014. So while I think it just barely squeaks in under "retro", it did start before I was born and all, and it's pretty cool to me seeing the fashions and technology change as the manga progresses. Also, uh... I'm really into Osomatsu-san right now, if that counts? :P

Uh, I guess my favourite old series is Slayers! That's adequately old right It was one of the childhood shows I used to watch, along with Inuyasha. Unfortunately, my mom got a VCD set of Slayers Next and Try in Chinese, so not only did I not watch the first season, I could barely understand it because my Chinese is shit :(

It still holds up fondly in my memories, and I absolutely love the openings of Next and Try.

I guess I'll take ambidex01 and ambidex02 if special cards are okay!

I used to watch Sailor Moon back in the day. MY FIRST ANIME would probably have to be Speed Racer. Omg I still remember waiting to watch it on toonami in the 90's I loved it so much. That and Dragon Ball Z. Watched that alot with my dad.

When I was first getting into anime I remember really being into Burn Up! W/Excess, I think at first it was the opening songs that grabbed me, but I ended up really liking the main girls and I generally am really into crime/mystery series so it was a pretty good match for me, haha.

One of the old series I'm really into is definitely Inuyasha! I like the plot as well as the characters /w\ I don't remember all of their names because I haven't touch it for years;; I found out about the series through tv and decided to look through the manga, that's when I love the series!

My favorite old series is definitely Slayers! I guess in terms of manga, Jojo's Bizarre Adventure was started the year I was born, and I'm so glad for the current anime adaptations! I love retro stuff. A lot of it feels like it has a lot of heart compared to some of the stuff that sometimes just gets pumped out for ratings.

I'll be grabbing kindness01, jojo01
