Well, I bought the soundtracks for .hack//SIGN despite not finishing the series. And Puella Magi Madoka Magica. In terms of opening songs, though, I remain fond of every song from Slayers. Some of that is just that I like Megumi Hayashibara's voice, but they also are so upbeat. Also Rinbu Revolution from Revolutionary Girl Utena. Especially looking back on the lyrics after the end of the anime.

(Utena also had some awesome -- albeit confusing -- inset songs. Another show I bought the soundtrack for.)

I remember the songs for Utena! When I think very serious moments, I sometimes think of the Utena songs hahaha.

.hack//SIGNS has amazing music though ;; its what actually made me restart and finish the series. Its so good!

The music for .hack//SIGN and Madoka is gorgeous! I really love all of Yuki Kajiura's stuff.

.hack literally has some of the best music honestly. So much good music that you can always remember and yet, still really unique as well.

This sounds very generic for Jun, but I really love the music from Yugioh /_\ Especially the OST. I like the Duel Monsters music very much too, all 4 of the Sound Duels are great! (The first 2 OST were nice too though.) As for OP/END songs, I really love the OP songs WARRIORS (OP from Duel Monsters), FREEDOM (OP from 5Ds), and Mirai Iro (END from 5Ds)

since you asked for links um,,, I can share the songs over the videos (I know I have an issue finding a good video of Freedom on youtube tbh.)

Mirai Iro, WARRIORS, FREEDOM

Oh man, music.

Can I just say the entirety of the Kingdom Hearts soundtrack is something I've always enjoyed, from the beginning all the way to where we are now? Because that's a thing. The KH2 OST specifically is something I ended up burning onto a CD in high school and I'd listen to whenever I felt like it (that and the FFX OST because wow). And I'm not as emotionally attached to the FFXII OST but one of my favorite songs is Royal Capital Rabanastre (City Upper Ground). Loser alert: there's an international supermarket about an hour and a half from where I live and when I go, I always listen to this while walking around oops. Honorable mentions for entire OSTs I love go to ZEXAL and Kill la Kill because wowow.

Favorite openings and endings though... hm. This is tough. As for ZEXAL, there's Braving by KANAN for favorite opening (with Dualism of Mirrors by petit milady coming in a close second) and Challenge the GAME by REDMAN for favorite ending.

Outside of that, I'll always have a soft spot for the OPs and EDs from the 2003 FMA anime. Also, Fight Growing Diary is the cutest CFV ending ever and everyone needs to watch it.

but okay i'm done rambling now sob

I love, love, love pretty much every single song from Umineko, and there are many. They range from sweet and touching to incredibly creepy to heartbreakingly sad to pure badass and everything in between. I should also mention the amazing opening.

Another soundtrack I'm very fond of is the one for the Attack on Titan anime! The openings by Linked Horizon get a lot of deserved praise, but the background music is also definitely worth a listen.

[personal profile] honeybrushedheart 2014-07-28 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh my god, the music in Umineko was the best part of the novels that I really ought to reread and actually finish. It was just so good at setting up the atmosphere along with the sound effects that went along with it like the sound of the rain or the blowing winds and stuff. Happiness of Marionette's still my favorite BGM from it. ;w; Along with Worldend_dominator that you linked, too!

Ohh, this is a fun one. I listen to a lot of game OSTs, and there are a lot which I really like. My favourites have gotta be Persona 3 and Nier... also Drakengard 3 has a really nice soundtrack but I still need to play the game ahaha. As far as game openings, I always thought Tales of Innocence had a really cool one.

There are a lot of anime openings I really like tooo... Soul Eater was one of the first animes I watched all the way through and I loved the first opening to that a lot at the time (The third ending, too). More recently, I've really enjoyed the openings to Tsuritama, Gatchaman Crowds, and Noragami. Noragami is one of my favourites. (Oh, and Penguindrum too! I could go on and on and should probably stop.)

Also, the entire Angel Beats OST is good.

I get really pumped about music.

The music in Nier was really awesome. And I'm rather biased but I definitely agree with the Tales of Innocence having a good opening.

The soundtrack in Rule of Rose is awesome, no question, in my opinion. It definitely sets the tone and some atmosphere to the game. Playing with the music turned off a little odd but funny all the same. Even when it comes down to a vinyl looping over the speakers near the end of the game it definitely sets the mood. I do get a little tense during game play due to the music but it's in good fun.

And, as a guilty pleasure, I do enjoy some songs in Gravitation. The lyrics are cringe worthy, particularly regarding 'Bad Luck's songs,' but, by god, so catchy. It's all a plot. And the opening is definitely one of my favourite things. It's not a favourite series of mine but I can definitely awkwardly wiggle around to the songs as I do dishes.

Noir has a cool opening song as well that I'm able to listen to twice or so in a row.

Oh no I could go on about this forever. Anything that Yoko Kanno does is a masterpiece, and Yuki Kajiura too! Kalafina has also been doing a lot of openings/endings lately, and I really like their work. They don't have any damn OPs/EDs on YouTube, of course, but I love all of the Bebop music, the Kill la Kill OST is really good, the Neon Genesis Evangelion OST... and I really like FLCL, too; the use of 'real' songs in it was a cool touch!

Right now I'm addicted to Future Fish from Free! Eternal Summer (WHOOPS). The OPs/EDs from Nagi no Asukara were really good, um... to be honest I love anime music and have like... over 400 songs including things I haven't watched I think, HAHA, so.

DID WE REALLY HAVE TO TALK ABOUT MUSIC ON BOTH OF MY TCGS because i'm just gonna rehash what i said on the other one

To be honest, I can't just choose one for this answer, though I'm going to be extremely obvious and say that Paradigm from Kokoro Connect is one of my favorites -- it fits the series so well, and the song is ridiculously cute. I also did enjoy Daze from Mekakucity Actors and the IA cover for it is also pretty damn amazing. But then again, I really enjoy the songs from JIN, they're ridiculously good, haha...

Also, I am really loving ignite from Sword Art Online II and even though I did like the Aincrad arc and just skipped ALO, I'm really loving SAO II so far, DON'T JUDGE ME I WAS WATCHING IT FOR MIYUKI SAWASHIRO

I also enjoyed both Nisekoi openings, Click and STEP both sung by ClariS. And speaking of ClariS, who can ever forget Connect from Puella Magi Madoka Magica?

ALSO I guess I have a story -- actually, stories -- to tell as well, since I just remembered it. So back in middle school, there was a "talent show", to say the least, and I honestly couldn't decide what song to sing at the time, so I was going through my list of songs and I decided to sing Naraku no Hana from Higurashi no Naku Koro ni. But since I knew that everyone who saw the talent show would judge me and I was a little scared of that, I decided to do an English cover and it wasn't complete shit, to be honest, but looking back at it, my singing was pretty shitty, even though the English cover lyrics I did for it were decent.

Also a few years back me and my fiance kind of did a pretty embarrassing cover - at least, in my opinion of High Touch! from Pokemon and I was doing Dawn and he was doing Ash and I WAS LIKE WHY MY VOICE DOESN'T GO THAT HIGH so i was sobbing the whole time...

and he still has it on his ipod

cries more

also i love osts i just download everything I WON'T LIE. Himeko-chan is one of my favorite OST soundtracks from the Kokoro Connect batch....

AS FOR ENDINGS the first ending for PSYCHO-PASS, Namae no Nai Kaibutsu by EGOIST is totally great and I really love playing it on osu! so much...

also the anohana ED theme is upsetting

but my personal favorite is salvage from Kokoro Connect because that guitar playing is HELLA NICE

i could go on and on please shut me up

My current favorite opening is the second Kill la Kill opening! I didn't like it at first, but it sort of grew on me as the series went on (though the first OP still has a soft spot in my heart). As for long-time favorites, the original opening for Durarara! was my JAM when it came out.

For endings, I generally don't watch through the credits unless there's anime through it, but I've always loved all of the AKB0048 endings. ;u;

I always have a special love for one of the ending themes of NANA, which was 'A Little Pain' by OLIVIA inspi' REIRA ~Trapnest~. NANA was one of my first proper anime series that I watched, so I think I will always love that song. It's sad but really beautiful and easy to sing along to, combining English and Japanese lyrics. But really I just love the inspirational, happy J-pop songs, so the opening themes of OHSHC and Princess Princess are good!

Oh, and English ones too, like the Pokemon theme and Beyblade. LET IT RIP. ♥ I just like the music that makes me happy, really =^.^=

I love many of the openings and endings from both Fullemtal Alchemists. Ginga Nagareboshi Gin's opening is maybe the most nostalgic for me! And the OST all i all is awesome. I also really enjoyed the music in NO6.

My current favorite anime song overall is Samurai Heart by Spyair from Gintama and I'm not even far enough in Gintama to have heard in the series itself. Yeah. I just tend to listen to all OPs/EDs for the series I'm interested in, just to see if they're any good... and usually they're great.

Favorite opening... might always be Satsugai from Detroit Metal City. Uh, I meant In My World from Ao no Exorcist. Change from The Idolm@sters always gets me pumped with energy. But the one that actually has had the most impact on me is Love Letter from Nanika from Utakoi. It's so different from the usual happy-go-lucky-ganbatte-you-can-do-it-fight!! opening songs.

Tsuritama's Tsurikyuu March ~Odayaka-hen~ has a very special place in my heart as far as insert songs go. It's actually been my ringtone for over a year now... and it still cheers me up every time I hear it. I love most of the insert songs The Idolm@sters had in it, especially Itsumademo dokomademo, Little Match Girl and Nemurihime.

My current favorite ending song is probably Yay yay yay from Smile! Pretty Cure, especially with the super cute ED video. However, my ultimate favorite ending is either Waltz or Split, both from Honey and Clover. Shisou Densha from Ookiku Furikabutte is really nice, too.

... I have a lot of favorite songs, seriously. I only have my ultimate favorites on my phone and there are still over 100 songs there. This just keeps getting worse as I get into more idol/music series and discover new great bands through anime OPs...

I'm going to have to go with Hunter x Hunter 1999 for strongest overall OST. "Ohayo" is a great opening theme, and then both Pale Ale and The Sun Also Shines at Night are really unusual and distinctive openings. Plus the instrumental OSTs overall are really distinctive. A lot of anime, when I hear the bgm, I can't place it or it doesn't really strike me as specifically 'that series'. But the old HxH anime is completely recognizable. I've been watching the new HxH anime this week and while it does a lot of things well, the music overall is totally generic. The action bgm track could be from pirates of the caribbean lol.

I am a HUGE fan of music in general, especially music in shows or visual novels that can amplify or manipulate your feelings a bit and give the scene a bit of atmosphere. That sort of thing is super prevalent in visual novels and I love it.

FOR EXAMPLE: Rewrite of the Life is one of two opening songs for Rewrite. It's a bit odd and kind of spoiler-y for someone who hasn't read the novel since it shows brief snippets of scenes from each heroine's route animated. But it's good at making you feel really amped up and excited, I think!

And then there's the ending songs Song of Passage and CANOE. They are the same song, except Song of Passage is in a bunch of different languages at any time in the song, and CANOE is just in Japanese. Both these songs are beautifully sung and just. Really lend themselves to the ending of the visual novel's story. I just remember getting to the ending credits with CANOE playing and just being this ball of emotions over everything that had happened in the final route, and the song REALLY contributed to it even after it finished.

I... I could go on about songs from various visual novels and stuff for awhile if I could think of the words and more songs and stuff to provide but I probably shouldn't haha. |D So I'm just gonna end it off with two things.

One, I am absolutely in LOVE with the full version of MOON PRIDE from Sailor Moon Crystal and the rest of the songs on the single.

And two, if I don't see any mentions of K-On! music or at least the openings or vocal tracks aside from this, I'll be a tiny bit disappointed.

I have so many favourite openings. The first Code Geass opening will forever hold a special place in my heart. The Tsuritama opening is so uplifting and energetic, I absolutely love walking to it and it always puts me in a great mood. Plus, the dance is amazing. Who doesn't love the Ennoshita Bowl dance? I am also very fond of the openings of Mawaru Penguindrum, Hellsing, Black Cat, Evangelion, Soul Eater.... The list goes on.

As for endings... I find I tend to skip them pretty often, so there aren't very many that I actually remember haha. Right now the only favourites that come to mind are the Moyashimon and Shinsekai Yori ending, but I'm sure there are more!

Gundam Build Fighters has one of the best recent OSTs that I've ever heard. I highly recommend listening to some of the tracks on your freetime, but some that come very highly recommended are (in no particular order) fairy dance speed star Allied Force Samurai-Edge QuickAttack and all of the OP/EDs are great but I'd recommend wimp I'd get the other ones linked as well, but they seem to be great youtube take-down targets so...

AiRi did the first ED, Hyadain did the second ED and BACK-ON did both OPs.

I don't tend to skip the OPs/EDs unless I'm really busy because if it's a good OP/ED, I'll watch it 99.9% of the time that I can. (And now that GBF is getting a S2, I'm very excited to start to do that all over again this October!)

I have a bias, so obviously I like Dangan Ronpa's Ending. Like, not only is it sung by Soraru, but Suzumu made it? I mean, it's a wonderful combination. And like... I really like Soraru... And Suzumu made catchy songs (like Indulging: Idol Syndrome? And the Earth's Lifespan one?) So... yeah, I like that song... Even if I hadn't even watched the anime.

I also like Yu Yu Hakusho's openings and ending, and I don't know why.

I love both the visuals and the music in the OP for Baccano! The entire soundtrack is really fantastic. Rule of Rose is also noteworthy for it's fantastic opening, both visually and acoustically. I'm also fond of the soundtracks for Puella Magi Madoka Magica and Gankutsuou. Umineko and Higurashi are also noteworthy for their spectacular soundtracks, for both versions of their respective games. Aside from Higurashi's fantastic OPs and EDs, the anime really didn't do them justice.

RPG Maker games tend to have nicely put together collections as well. I'm particularly fond of The Witch's House, Wadanohara and the Great Blue Sea and Mad Father... Though I love the OSTs for horror games in general, really.

I listen mostly soundtracks (movie, anime and games) these days, so I could list so many! But I try to keep this short. (Also, I'm not very good at talking why I like a music piece, especially in english. So this might get repetitive fast)

Openings: I adore the openings of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (+kai and rei). They fit well in the series and are musically interesting with weird beat and eerie backgrounds. Dear You is also very cute.

When looking something more traditional, Again from FMA Brotherhood has been on my playlist so many years already and I still love its melody.

I don't usually pay much attention to endings, but the ending of Madoka Magica is one I like a lot.

The overall soundtrack of Madoka is one of my favorites. And there are some tracks in Clannad OST that make me so emotional every time, thanks for the association to certain scenes from the series. Tears after the cloudy weather from Pokemon does the same (Nooo, Butterfreeeeeeee! ;_;)

From games, I mostly listen Ace Attorney OSTs. The orchestrated versions especially are great. Kingdom Hearts also has some great tracks. And a while ago I found I'm surprisingly fond of the soundtrack of Donkey Kong Country. Although with games, I like almost any soundtrack I recognize. I hear them so many times when playing, that they certainly leave an impression. So if they are not annoying, I usually end up liking them. There was a game music concert in my hometown a while back and even if I wouldn't name their music my favorite overall, it was still amazing and so nostalgic to hear some old tracks from Mario and Zelda.

Picking favorite songs is hard for me. orz I love Akiko Shikata, and some of my favorite songs she did for OSTs would be Byakumu no Mayu ~Ricordando il passato~ from the last Umineko VN episode! And of course her work on Ar tonelico, along with Shimotsuki and Mitose and many other artists, is all fantastic! The non-vocal parts of the OSTs are too, seriously people should check out the Ar tonelico soundtracks! My favorite song by Noriko Mitose is actually the final battle theme from Mana Khemia, STIGMATA though! But these gams are made by the same company so some of the same composers worked on them both, and MK's OST is also great~

As for actual OPs and EDs....I really like Madoka's ED song Magia by Kalafina! Or anything by Kalafina really though... Sadly there doesn't seem to be a good version of it on Youtube that wasn't muted or isn't a remix or something. The Light Before we Land from Gunslinger Girl is great too! Also both Tales of Innocence and Innocence R have great openings!

NO ONE CARES ABOUT THIS SERIES BUT ME but I loooove the main theme of Sands of Destruction/World Destruction while I'm at it! The anime also had a great OP!

I can go on and on with music and just putting what comes to mind first, but I'll leave with Le Ali del Principio even though the whole OSt is really good, but this song is just beautiful!

Oooh I have so many anime music loves. I'll try to contain myself.

Aikatsu is one series that has just an amazing OST in my opinion. Not just the fun j-pop songs that the girls sing, either - I don't notice background music normally, but in Aikatsu I do and it's always fitting and really fits the show. And of course, all their idol songs are great too. Calendar Girl is just amazing, and lots of others have made their way onto my playlist too. (Take Me Higher, Wake up my Music, Fashion Check... I could go on.)

In terms of straight OSTs, I'm fond of Madoka and also Death Note, though the former has some bad memories associated with it so I'm giving it a break off for a while. Sis Puella Magica is an amazing track. (I can't find a good youtube link right now, but it's pretty popular so I'm sure most people have heard it already.) A track I do want to show off a little is one from .hack//Legend of the Twilight, which is a series of .... questionable quality (I liked it!) that just had some great OST tracks. Specifically, Jump To The Blue Sky.

And of course, Pokemon. Where would we be without Pokemon? Hoenn music is my favorite of course, because I belong to the cult of Wingulls and trumpets. Slateport has great music, and actually an official vocal version that gives me that weird skin-prickly feeling. It's here, if you haven't heard it before. It's not perfect especially in the vocals, but it's worth a listen. And then in Sinnoh we have the Pokemon League Night theme, which is the best lullaby.

I... could go on, but I'll stop myself here for now, haha....
