Colors TCG 5th Anniversary - Day 20

[UN]Favorite Characters

Last day, last topic and what better way to finish this than talking about your favorite and/or unfavorite characters? You can make your comment to be any combination of;

♥ talk about 1 favorite male & 1 favorite female
♥ talk about 1 unfavorite male and 1 unfavorite female
♥ talk about 1 favorite female and 1 unfavorite female
♥ talk about 1 favorite male and 1 unfavorite male
♥ talk about 1 favorite male, 1 favorite female, 1 unfavorite male, 1 unfavorite female

What we're going for here is keep it balanced somehow and don't just talk about one character, yes? Comments can be long or short, so feel free to talk as little or much as you want. Also feel free to replace the unfavorite term with something like characters you dislike, or can't stand or whatever works for you. My own favorites are very obvious from this post when you look at the banner & my icon in case you were wondering about the FMA/SNK bias, haha!

Talking about any of those combinations will earn you 1 choice card of a male character, 1 choice card of a female character & fivetastic20 - you're free to log them all into your post as soon as you're done posting your comment here! No need to wait for my replies on this one since it's not screened. If you talk about all four, I'll give you two random crayons along with everything else in my reply to you!

Aaaaaaand that's it for this year's anniversary, I hope all you amazing people had fun through it and thank you so much for participating!♥

...Or well, no this isn't actually the real last day since Raven's going to post Bonus Day tomorrow, so look forward to that too! :D

Like the other anniversary posts, this will close on July 1st at noon GMT!
( also I stole this from Fel's 2013 anniversary post... shamelessly using her amazing ideas, so don't think I came up with this myself! :x )

One of my favorite male characters is Cheshire from Are You Alice?. He's my favorite kind of character, duplicitous and ambiguously loyal, and there's lots of interesting stuff to dig into with his backstory and how he thinks of himself as a pet and powerless but isn't necessarily that way... I'm really looking forward to his canon to finish coming out in English release because I want to know allll about him.

And one of my favorite female characters is Shirabuki Sara from Vampire Knight. She's a very minor character but I think she's just fascinating and (in my opinion!) had a lot of potential as a character and villain. Her concept is just fascinating: an immortal vampire motivated to take over all vampires by a fear of literally murderous ennui. And her villain scheme was horribly brilliant, I kind of wish it had worked or at least had ended more climactically. Her canon may be done but I love her still ;o;

I am honestly extremely neutral to characters, so there's not really anyone I favour in particular, quite frankly. Energetic characters (like Kazane and Gao from Buddyfight) are fun, though! Good vibes. But every character has their charm in some way. I have no deep and insightful comments beyond this.

I'll take apollo12, thetower09!

Oh man this is a pretty hard topic because I can't decide who to talk about in terms of faves....but since I'm in Magi hell right now I might as well talk about characters from that?? Soo....

Obviously my favorite male character is Sphintus and admittedly it was only when I saw that he had a deck here that I was sold on signing up. He seems to be overlooked quite a bit in the fandom though, despite being pretty important to the development of a more popular character (maybe it's because his significance was downplayed in the anime? blearhg......) Aside from his being a very visually pleasing character (ahem...), he's probably my fave because his character took a completely different turn than what I expected and he turned out to be one hell of a cutie.

As for my fave female character, it's Kougyoku, who, now that I think about it, had a pretty similar "start out pretty terrible then turn out to be the cutest thing ever" going on as with Sphintus. Vinea is also really heck cool and I'm so glad she never really falls out of "action girl" status. And maybe I'm just very biased towards the Kou Empire in general since they take so much from ancient China and that's something I'm very very familiar with.

Welp I might as well go all the way and talk about all four?? I mean.......I've always wanted to talk about how I don't like Sinbad. Because I don't. I really don't. Which is a huge shame because he's a very attractive character, his voice actor is freaking Daisuke Ono, and I grew up with Sinbad the Sailor as a big part of my childhood and I want to like him. He's the type of character I usually like too?? It's just that right from the get go when I realized what role he was playing I got a very bad hunch about his character and took everything he did and said with a grain of salt from then on. And then in some relatively recent chapters my bad hunch got more or less confirmed and it had to involve Kougyoku too of all things and oops goodbye any chance of my liking him in the main story anymore. (I haven't read his spin off yet so...maybe I'll like his past version more? I don't know, my dislike for him is keeping me from reading it in the first place do you see my problem here.)

As for a female character I don't like, that's easily Arba for the simple reason that (spoiler warning) I loved Solomon and Sheba and I was so angry with what she did to Sheba holy cow plus she was really REALLY creepy as Gyokuen. Pretty hard to insist on filial piety when your mom is as crazy as her. I'll admit that she had a pretty awesome fight scene at her end though, but then I was eagerly waiting for her death and rooting for the other guy the entire time (which is saying a lot because I happen to HATE the other guy too). Her death could not have been any more satisfying oh god........

...uh, I'll take kukulcan05 and vinea01.

One of my favourite male characters is Riku from Kingdom Hearts, although that didn't really happen until I played Kingdom Hearts 3D! Sora has always been my favourite guy in the series, because he's friendly and enthusiastic and I really appreciated him as a Square Enix protagonist, but 3D really made me appreciate Riku more than I had previously. He's had so much growth over the course of the series and 3D was just a really great moment for him...

As for female characters, what female characters don't I like, aha? I guess my longtime favourite has always been Minako Aino from Sailor Moon, although I'm not too sure why because I'm a lot more like Ami than I am Minako. But I really appreciate how she's a little clumsy and ditzy and a lot like Usagi, except she also really takes her duty as a sailor senshi seriously. Like, even though she's a bit silly and boy crazy, her main priority is her duty to Usagi, and I've always loved that about her.

I don't really intensely dislike characters, so I'm trying to think of characters that have annoyed me...

Oh, actually, I REALLY dislike Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII. I think part of it is that he is--or was?--considered super popular and attractive and I don't... see it... but also, I dunno, I think there are far better villains out there as well. Sephiroth has always been a little bit ridiculous to me; out of everything in FF7 that's overrated, I've always thought he was the most overrated thing in there.

As for a female character... I've gotten a lot more discerning as I've gotten older and I don't dislike female characters much anymore, but I really dislike Ragyo Kiryuin from Kill La Kill. I've never even met her in the show (I couldn't get past the first episode), but everything I've heard about her and what she does just makes me revile her.

As for choice cards...

Assuming they don't have to be from the series we've talked about, I'd like faith13 (female) and machinegun07 (male), please!

Well since I'm getting really deep into One Piece again ( for the nth time), I'll talk about my favorite and unfavorite characters from One Piece (otherwise there would be too many).

First, my favorite male character is Ace (sorry Luffy, Law and Marco! I just like Ace slightly more). You never got to see much of him but he had a great personality despite his issues and Marineford will always be the first I remember when I think about One Piece.

Next my favorite female character is Ace's mother Rouge! You've got to admire someone who out of love and sheer determination hold her pregnancy for 20 months just to give her child a chance to live without the World Government knowing about him.

Now, onto unfavorite characters.

My unfavorite character make character has to be Blackbeard (no surprise there). Stabbing Thatch in the back and betraying your former crew is the lowest you can get on the seas (Akainu kills everyone who stands in his way but at least he's upfront about it!). Add to that Blackbeard's the one who handed Ace over to the Marines. Yeah, he's definitely not on my favorite of the year list.

Now my unfavorite female character is actually Bonney. I get that she's a female pirate but her eating habits are... Let's just say I think even Luffy's table manners are better.

Aaaarrrrrrgh!! My least favorite question ever. :P Well, let's see.

Favorite Male Character
My instinctive reaction is of course Edward Elric, I'm a big fan of Ed and FMA, so that's why I'm starting with the easy one. ;P As for why I like him best? That's harder to quantify. I'm generally fond of the "small aggressive energetic male character" type, for one thing. I also really love his relationship with Al, and just the way he deals with everything, and also his hair is great.

Favorite Female Character
Excuse me for a few minutes while I figure out who to pick.

... *elevator music plays* ...

So just as a favorite female character, after much internal torment and conflict I'm going to say Victorique. I'm a really big fan of Deductive Geniuses in general, and she's a really adorable combination of contrasts and also has that tiny goth-loli style I am beginning to realize I have a fondness for.

Least Favorite Male Character
NARAKU. Normally I love villains, right, or at least "love to hate" them, like in the case of Aizen where you're like "oh my gosh you're SUCH A HORRIBLE PERSON" and such but NARAKU. Oh my gosh I just wanted Naraku to fricking DIE AND GO AWAY FOREVER. He's like an obnoxious cockroach, you keep thinking he's finally gone and then SURPRISE COCKROACH IN YOUR DISHES. He wasn't interesting or entertaining or anything, he was barely even villainous, he was just annoying. Ugh!!

Least Favorite Female Character
This one is tough because I know there's a female character I really really hated, but I can't actually... remember who she was... or even what series she's from... I just remember there was a major female antagonist in something who kept making me yell angrily at the screen. >.>

In lieu of remembering her, I'll offer up Hitomi from Escaflowne, who I don't hate but I definitely dislike more than I like. It doesn't help that I saw it first/mostly in the English dub and her English voice acting is so annoying. But Hitomi in general just feels so... passive and fatalist. Which is a really weird feeling to get from a character whose wishes literally change reality over the course of the series, but that's how it is.

There are so many other characters I love which I wish I could talk about but I don't want this to turn into an essay. >.>;

For my choice cards, I shall fittingly take fullmetal17 and fairy05.

This is actually a really hard question for me, not because I have a lot of favorites, but because my favorites are actually terrible as people so I wonder why I like them at all... (jk I know why)

Well I guess let's start with the one that has done absolutely no wrong to anyone ever. My favorite female at the moment is Love Live's Nishikino Maki. Her singing voice (Praise Be to Pile-sama) is amazing and in-universe, as the composer of the scores of her group's songs, that's amazing in it of herself. Despite growing up in a rich household, she hardly seems that selfish at all, and she's also really good at academics (which, as a school idol, is important!). And then there's the fact that the precious actually still believes in Santa............ luv Maki, she is a good daughter.

As for favorite male...... time for the whole other end of the spectrum in about every way, save for affluence (he's in an entirely different plane of wealth, ergo not the same spectrum). Gilgamesh from the Fate series is my favorite male. "Which Fate?" one might ask. All of them. Every one he appears in. Yes, even the April Fools' joke Sensha Otoko. And Capsule Servant. Anyway. The first time I watched Fate/zero, I was entirely fascinated by the interactions he had with Kirei, who was basically morally and personality-wise his whole opposite. And then in Fate/stay night, mainly the Unlimitd Blade Works route, his villain motivation showed a very frightening disgust for the number of 'useless people' in the world, and to be entirely honest, his end in each route was entirely deserved. Fate/Extra CCC reveals a lot more about his feelings without having to spend 10 years hating people, and it really shows his intelligence and his weird kind of "I'd never lie to you" honesty. At the same time, I really really dislike his whole "MARRY ME SABER" schtick that amounts to nothing more that "I want to literally own you."

ok that was rambly.

Unfavorite male would have to be Matou Zouken from the Fate/ series. Why? Going into that would be spoiler-y but let's just say it involves bugs and ruining EVERYONE'S lives. I'm so sorry Sakura.

Unfavorite female... see this one will have to be "a vague dislike but I don't hate them" because she's also done nothing wrong, but just seems a little selfish and I also don't like genki types an awful lot but... Kousaka Honoka from Love Live is my least favorite member of μ's. She's the leader, yes, but there are moments of "this is about me!!!!!" that happen and I don't like them.

Choice cards are babylon17 and musicstart20!

It's really hard to pick just two favorite characters...!!

For female characters, Izumo Kamiki from Ao no Exorcist, which didn't really happen until we got to her backstory in the manga. I like when female characters are allowed to be angry and mean and aren't punished for feeling like that, and the other characters accept them for who they are. (Ok I just realized that sounds a little weird and specific, it's mostly for personal reasons I guess)

Also from Ao no Exorcist, Rin Okumura has been one of my favorite characters since I saw the anime like, years ago now. I love protagonists, and Rin especially has always been pretty great and makes me wanna try my best.

I don't have least favorite characters as much as I have characters I'm kind of apathetic about, but I have a couple that I just. Do not like. Van Grants from Tales of the Abyss, though the reason why is a little spoilery. And Rosa from Umineko. I'm not too far into the series yet but the scenes between her and Maria are the most painful for me to watch, which... Considering what Umineko deals with says a lot.

(ETA I just realized I mixed up Rosa and Natsuhi's names how embarrassing...!!)

One of my favorite female characters of all time is probably Yukari from Sekirei. Which is a weird choice, maybe -- the little sister side character from a harem T&A manga? But Yukari is amazing. She's hardcore, in your face, motivated by her own wants at all times, thinks pretty boys are one of Japan's national treasures, nosebleeds over guys, and literally at one point backflips out a window while setting a skyscraper on fire. Yukari for president.

One of my favorite male characters would have to be Shion from No.6. It's hard to explain Shion; he seems normal and kind of bland but his thought processes are strange. He's very much the product of an entire culture where standing out or showing any sign of 'dangerous thought' gets you vanished, so he seems mild and easy-going but all of his thoughts are towards destruction, need, want. His first monologue in the novels is when a hurricane is coming on and he thinks, "Destroy. Destroy what? Everything." He's completely passionate and a little terrifying but he's a good guy who wants to help the world.

Picking unfavorites are harder, because I tend not to actively dislike most characters, just have less interest in them. But let's see.

A male character I just couldn't get into was Kiritsugu from Fate/Zero (etc). I understood his motivations, and how he got into a cycle of loss fallacy, but I just couldn't actually care about what read to me as bland manpain at all times, especially once he went into the "I can't allow myself to be happy at any point so I'll cheat on my wife to give myself something else to be upset about." (Especially because both the wife and the other woman were great, really). It was unfortunate that he was pretty much the main character, imho.

I pretty much can't get into any female character whose only role in the story is the effect she has on the male lead. I could pick so many possibilities for this, but it's actually hard for me to land on one because I tend to drop those series like hot bricks. I guess I'll go with Takeda from Death Note as an example. As a character, she's tied 100% into Light's goals and how he can use her for the plot instead of being used as a character, literally only good to speak for him, dispose of his enemies, and eventually (when she proves too competent) is forced to commit suicide. While DN is that sort of series, the women steadily are given the shaft in terms of being self-motivated in any way.

It's been a great anniversary, thanks for all the fun posts!

Oh, gosh. How the hell do I pick just a couple of my favorite characters to talk about?

Okay, well -- to start off, one of my all time favorite females is one that's been with me for quite some time. Back when I was in elementary school, I used to get picked on a lot because I was different from the other kids for my tastes in what I liked. So, one of my role models was Tsukino Usagi from Sailor Moon. It sounds silly to say now, but I'd always ask, "what would Sailor Moon do?" if I was in a situation that I didn't know what to do in. Strangely enough, it all worked out in my favor because I always thought what would she do if she was getting picked on or told something mean.

But, I also cannot leave out Tenjou Utena from Revolutionary Girl Utena either. I was still heavily into Sailor Moon in middle school, however I was also rather into Utena as well. I think seeing the struggles that Utena went through made the struggles that I was going through with stuff at home and at school easier. I do remember one time that I lost my Adolescence of Utena manga at school, but it was found and a lot of people picked on me for liking a lesbian series and thought I was one myself. I didn't want to fuel the fire at all, so I decided to just shrug off their accusation. (Later on, I did discover hat I like girls and have been out of the closet now for eight years now, yay!)

Oh, also, another favorite female of mine is Kiryuuin Satsuki from Kill la Kill. I heard all kinds of negative comments revolving around the series, saying it's too fanservicy or that there's too much male gaze. I looked past that and saw that Satsuki was an incredibly cool character. She managed to stand up to her abusive as all hell mother while still remaining true to herself. She never gave up, not even once and I just... gah. Satsuki-sama please step on me. ;w; In the same vein of the series, I also like Jakuzure Nonon from Kill la Kill. Initially, her sub voice grated on my nerves, but I soon got over it and found that she was really cool as well. She's not afraid to tell people what's up, and even though she's smaller in stature compared to the other characters, she makes herself known regardless of what's going on. That, and I kinda unashamedly ship Satsuki/Nonon. WHOOPS.

A favorite male character of mine... Hmm... Oh, right! Another series I got heavily into back in middle school was Shaman King all because one of my friends at the time had the manga and I asked to borrow it because I thought it was cool. What I didn't know was just how good the series itself is. I always thought that I was going to go in there liking Asakura Yoh, but no -- my favorite character turned out to be Tao Ren! What I think really sold me on his character was how he wasn't going to perpetuate the cycle of violence that his family was infamous for when he took the reins. He chose to step up to his father who imprisoned him and his sister down in their castle, as well, and I thought that Hiroyuki Takei made a wonderful character with that little story arc. To this day, I still love Shaman King and all of the characters that are in the story.

Oh! How could I forget about Hiwatari Kai from Beyblade? My bias might come from the fact that I RPed him for a couple of years, so -- but anyway, I loved how he, too, was able to stand up to his grandfather in the first season, saying that he didn't want to be controlled by someone like him. Furthermore, while in G-Revolution, he was constantly changing sides to see which suited him better, I loved the fight he had with Brooklyn because I think that really cemented him as one of my favorite characters of all time. He wasn't going to let anyone push him around and wanted to take back what was stolen from him. I've gotta admit, I cried like a baby when he got injured after the fight and I cheered so much when I saw him come back for the finale to help Takao defeat Brooklyn after he went crazy.

Now, for a least favorite female... Well, back when I was a fanbrat who didn't know any better, I always stupidly loved Himemiya Chikane from Kannazuki no Miko. I thought that her relationship with Himeko was a pure one until a friend opened my eyes to the kind of despicable character that Chikane really was. I won't get into it because I don't want to start off a heated discussion about this character in here. I also loathe Kiryuuin Ragyo, too, for mostly the same reasons of how she abused Satsuki with no remorse in her actions. I cringed whenever I saw her on the screen while touching Satsuki in a way that a mother shouldn't. I just... /shivers

As for a least favorite male... Oh, gosh. Do I even have one? Oh, right! I always really hate Shou Tucker from Fullmetal Alchemist due to what he did to his own daughter in order to keep his damn license. To this day, I cannot comfortably watch those episodes -- both the 2003 version and the Brotherhood one. I get so angry over what he did and want to reach through the screen and punch him. I also don't like Richard, who's Integra's uncle from Hellsing. I do like seeing that Alucard just completely and utterly wrecks him when he's revived, though. That's considered justice to me.

...I'm sorry, you probably weren't expecting an essay. I'M SORRY. ;w;

Choice cards: dranzer05, moscow01.

Thank you!

Oh, boy.

Favorite Male: Balthier from FFXII. He's confident, cocky, and yet through and through a true gentleman. Also his build is... mmmmmmm. ♥

Favorite Female: UM. This question... so hard. ;; I guess if I had to choose either Sumiregawa Nenene from Read or Die, Kuga Natsuki from Mai-HiME, or Eila Ilmatar Juutilainen from Strike Witches. Nenene because she's an awful lot like me - in that she reacts to every situation she's put in exactly as I would. Like, down to the point where she hauls off and punches Joker (I predicted this seconds before it occurred on screen, lol). Natsuki because she's imo very admirable and serious. Eila because she also tends to act exactly as I do around people I like, and loooooooool she and Sanya are just too adorbs for words.

Least Favorite Male: TBH, I've never really thought about least favorites, because I tend to just ignore whatever I don't like... I guess I'll just go with Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII, because he's pretty well a global asshole and wants to destroy the world n' stuff.

Least Favorite Female: Probably Paraietta from Simoun. Unpopular opinion is unpopular, but while I normally totally dig the white knight trope, I cannot stand it when the person they're white knighting for has effectively told them to stop and they continue to do it. :S

Brace yourselves, everyone. I will be talking about my favorites AND least favorites!

Let's start with my current favorite male: Slaine Troyard from Aldnoah.Zero. At first I was a little apprehensive about him because I thought he'd be the generic wishy-washy kind of guy, and he started out that way at first, but he started committing murder and later on some other acts in season two — like patricide, blowing up a military base, manipulating people, and using his own love interest's image as war propaganda to list a few — all for the sake of making sure his princess stays alive. You see, several people want Asseylum dead and Slaine won't have any of it because she's a very important person in his life. My biggest weakness involves characters who do morally questionable things for the sake of protecting someone they love, and Slaine eventually mentions wanting to reform Vers and help out the poor citizens who live in that place.

TL;DR he reminds me of Lelouch from Code Geass (my second favorite male!), just as charismatic though a lot fluffier and sweeter than him.

All that said, I completely understand why people hate Slaine, but man I've seen some really stupid reasons as to why — like assuming that Slaine will totally support genocide and that he only shot Inaho because he ~stole the princess away from him~ when that's not even the case. I just want to run these morons over with a bus. The fandom in general is that obnoxious.

I might as well mention my least favorite female so I can be done with the A/Z portion of this topic: Asseylum Vers Allusia. Yeah, the princess whose deck I actually became the first master of! I used to really like this girl, okay? She was cute and sweet, she knew how to use a grenade launcher and some kickass self-defense skills, and actually tried to stop the war when she found out that there was an assassination attempt against her. But then she became a hardcore plot device and it's like the writers forgot that she was supposed to be one of the three protagonists; it didn't feel that way to me. She became so boring, bland, and completely hypocritical to the point that she had to be in my least favorites — reluctantly so. It also didn't help that she practically had her peace handed to her on a silver platter. Blech.

Also I can't stand Chikane from Kannazuki no Miko. I didn't even finish the whole series, just saw parts of it, though I eventually fast-forwarded to that scene and ugh. Why is she the love interest?! Himeko deserved better! I didn't see how the show ends, but I wanted Chikane to have a painful death.

My favorite female is Sheryl Nome from Macross Frontier! Despite the amount of arrogance, selfishness, and narcissism oozing from her, she's actually a fun character. She's self-confident, independent, flirtatious, and is always willing to support her protegé in romance and love. Even though she's in a love triangle with Ranka, she never treats her friend like crap. She's also an extremely passionate woman who wants everyone to listen to her music so her legacy can live on in their hearts. Underneath all that bravado is a lonely woman who doesn't want to be left behind due to her tragic past, but she doesn't want to seem as weak. She works hard in her craft to be an inspiration to others. That, and well... she and Alto look so damn good together! /biased

ETA: Sheryl's concerts are so over the top and dramatic like she is!

And finally, my least favorite male. It's actually a tie between Haruto Tokishima from Valvrave and Rolo Lamperouge from Code Geass. Haruto annoys the shit out of me, and his contribution to that scene magnified my already negative opinion of him. I know that was technically against his will, but ew. As for Rolo... I feel that his character is all over the place. The show expects me to feel sorry for him, and yet he practically gets away with his actions, including what he did to Shirley (and I don't even like that character either!). Either give this guy a proper redemption plot and have him learn to value life aside from himself and Lelouch's (as in get attached to other people as well!), or have him stay a psychopath and develop a proper personality out of it. It's like they're trying to have their cake and eat it, too. Also I feel his presence derailed the plot of R2. Just sayin'.

This sure ended on a sour note, oops. For choice cards, I'll take bakuzan09 (female) and vesta15 (male).

FAVORITE GIRL is easy. I mean, it isn't easy to pick my all-time favorite girl, but in terms of who I want to talk about it's pretty clearly Falulu.
I mean look at her

I really didn't care for her design at first and I figured she'd be an obnoxious character... but then she showed up and she was so great! She has trouble with social cues and is dragged around by her mascot a lot, and despite her great skills at dancing and singing she doesn't understand friendship. (If you want to cry, let it be known a line in her character song is 'They say everyone has someone that loves them / What about me? Where are the people who love me?') Lala & crew end up teaching her friendship and letting her become more alive and learn more about the real world! I'm still incredibly angry about how they wrote her off at the end of S1, like beyond angry, it was so dumb... ;_; Thanks Pripara writers.
She's just really cute and her story really touched me. I really really really love Falulu!!

Favorite male is a bit harder since I've spent so much time lately watching shows with 95% female casts, so the males are few and generally minor characters... So I can't go by "newest," and most of my male favs are on the same level of fav-ness for me so it's hard to pick one out.
I'll just pick Johnny Bepp for now.

I think that image describes it. The only thing I can add is that in the Halloween ep in S3, he hands out a prize that is literally potato chips named after him, with his own trading cards in them. He has his own potato chip brand, and his own trading cards. Johnny Bepp.

I'll take fantasy14 (female) and morethan20 (male)!

It's hard to pick just a couple of my favourites, so I'll choose the male from my currently collecting deck: Asahina Fuuto from Brothers Conflict.

I know Fuuto is an unconventional choice, and especially after the anime adaptation everyone finds him to be a creepy, detestable brat. And I get it. I'm not saying people should like him.

He is a brat, undeniably. But he's 14 in the beginning of the series. Who isn't a brat at 14 anyway?

But Fuuto to me is a really fascinating character. I believe he truly care of his family - when he gives them seemingly insulting nicknames, those nicknames actually reveal he knows facts about them he would not know unless he pays attention to them. He also helps Ema and Yusuke if they really need him to, and even go out of his way to do so. Yet whenever Ema asks about Fuuto to the rest, they often quickly dismiss the topic (except for Rui, who actually likes him, and to some extent Yusuke and Wataru).

Even on New Years when everyone's going out to celebrate, Fuuto's own mother didn't want to bother with asking Fuuto to go to them temple with them. Sure, he was busy all night, but that part, where Ema was the only one who wanted to wish him a Happy New Years - and how happy he was that she did - kept on bugging me.

It's not that he doesn't reciprocate: he loves his brother Rui and he recognises Rui's talent and how Rui cares for him. This is interesting because of his 12 brothers, Rui is the only one he's not blood-related to. Yet he loves him so very much and Rui had showed he loves Fuuto as well. He loves Yuusuke, in his own way - they bicker, they fight but in the game Fuuto has shown that in his own ways he has Yuusuke's back.

Furthermore he has been in the entertainment industry since he was a child and is in and out of his house. There are things that twist him there, but I find it admirable he's working on achieving his dreams though he's so young.

Fuuto is a brat, but his story of ambition and isolation from his family unit as an effect of it really caught my interest.

Also, my favourite voice actor KENN did an excellent job on Fuuto.

For favourite female character, I'm going to pick one from a recent series: Ebisuzawa Kurumi from Gakkou Gurashi. I've not felt attached to an anime character for a while but I love Kurumi. She's just so very strong.

Kurumi faces forward regardless of what is happening around her. Regardless of what's happening to herself. Regardless of her own feelings and burdens. It's not that Kurumi doesn't have weaknesses, because she does. It's not because Kurumi is an eternal optimist, because she's not. But she knows what she has to do and she tries her best to do that.

In her situation, that's no easy feat.

She takes some of the most dangerous missions, yet she can remain calm through them. She lost people too, yet she remained cheerful for the friends she do have. She is willing to be open minded and see all her friends' point of view. She doesn't blame them when they aren't quite stable but knows when to mediate.

I did not expect this when I saw her design: the smile, the twin tails. Kurumi was the kind of characters I thought I wouldn't like. But her strength of character and her work in overcoming her own burdens and weaknesses really charmed me.

And fighting with a shovel? That's classic, and in the same time she really makes it her own.

I don't have strong dislikes, but if I've to pick characters I dislike: (male) Fudou Akio from Inazuma Eleven and (female) Minami Kotori from Love Live

For my choice cards can I have and naginata01 and magoroku19 please?

Hm.... my favourite male character is Axl, full stop. There's just something super appealing about his genki shounen protag-ness in a game that's pretty damn bleak and full of tragedy. He's fun, compared to X and Zero who are bogged down by loads of issues. Not saying that he doesn't have his own problems, but he doesn't let it stop him from doing what he needs to do, and that's great.

My favourite female character is.... hm. Well, Cinnamon is a pure child who deserves nothing less than all the love. She's adorable as heck all (ignoring her English voice) and innocent and yes. I like her a lot.

My least favourite male character is probaly Master Albert from Megaman ZX just because fuck him and him declaring Model A was made in his image. Fuck you no Model A is forever Axl in my heart and nothing can convince me otherwise.

An unfavourite female character... well. I can't say I liked Akatsuki from Log Horizon very much, especially when she went on for episodes about her romantic angst. That just annoyed the everloving hell out of me. :/

Taking netnavi13 and resistance11!

My favorite lady is Kotomi Ichinose from Clannad, full stop. As much as I love my toohoo ladies, she will always be top queen of my heart ;A; /gestures to very first deck mastery. Her story tugged at my heartstrings a thousand times more than the other girls in the game, which really says something considering it's an utsuge. It's not anything in particular about her, actually, I love all aspects of her character and her story ;n;

My favorite dude is....uh................actually that's a very good question, I latch onto female characters much more easily. I guess Battler from Umineko and Neji from Naruto are the most applicable lkdjghldah. I've always dug Neji's backstory of how his dad did something courageous but bc of stupid clan politics everything got corrupted and he ended up hating the other half of the family which was. Exactly the opposite of what his dad wanted. Whoops. Also comically serious types are my favorite. Battler I have no excuse for he's a fuckboy B|a

My least-favorite lady and dude are, in a fit of riding off previous responses from this post, prrrrrrrobably Ragyo from Kill la Kill and Zouken from Fate/stay night. It really takes a lot for me to dislike a character, so usually the only ones that end up in those slots are villains purposefully written to get the audience to despise them, like those two. I really don't need to say much more, the both of them are just revolting people as a whole.

Taking respect07 (dude) and marionette12 (lady)!

[personal profile] eonflamewing 2015-06-21 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
HAHAHAHA WOW this is pretty difficult for me aaaah. ok let's. give it a try!!

FAVOURITE MALE gestures intensely to the guy in my icon!! Takakage Kobayakawa from Samurai Warriors, people who know me through to will know how often I talk about him on plurk like a totally trashy person hehehehe. I find a lot of things admirable about him - his intelligence, calm and logical nature, and above all he is a kind person who feels others' pain. One hung that sets him aside from the usual 'nice guy' archetype is his ability to be manipulative if needed - he does do dubious things if necessary, but only for a good cause. It's this duality that makes me like him more - plus he is kind of cute lbr

now, for favourite female... it's kind of hard, I like them all. :'D but it would be the female protagonist from Persona 3 Portable, I think. she has a lot of life and perseverance that I don't see from some other heroines, and she is also a natural leader who is not 'tied down' by romance like other heroines who would otherwise have been great. that, and p3p's ending... spoilers, but it was really touching.

unfavourite male... well. I don't dislike characters all that much since there's always something to be liked about them so I guess it's just a process of elimination.... this is really a hard one. hmmmmm I think the dunce cap will have to fall on a certain samurai warriors character again, Toyohisa Shimazu... for very personal reasons, really. I used to like him as a character but the fandom kinda changed that.

same for unfavourite female, really. I can't pin a specific name because I like everyone! So I guess I'll just talk about my type - I don't like flat heroines, or flatly written girls in general. Women have more they want other than just romance and when writers/fandom flatten the character just like that I feel collateral pain ;w; guess I'm just gonna pin Sumia from Fire Emblem because again, fandom. It's not that I don't like her, I just got a bit tired of hearing rants about her all over my tumblr feed.

I'll be taking bibliophile09 and kazahana05!

Since I'm on a One Piece kick, I've yelled quite a bit about how much I love Chopper. <3 He's adorable and I relate to him so much.

~NOW LET'S TALK ABOUT WHY SPANDAM IS COMPLETE AND TOTAL TRASH~

He's mean! He's evil! He just wants a promotion! He doesn't even have a sad backstory to make me moderately sorry for him! Spandam is the worst piece of garbage in anime history~ Rest assured knowing the character you hate could never be worse than Spandam from One Piece.

Hmm....I have so many favorites. When it comes to characters, I call pretty much every character I love "my favorite".

I talk a lot about Jojo's bizarre adventure on colors, but it's got to be one of my favorite series of all time. I absolutely love Joseph Joestar. Old, young, doesn't matter. He's just my favorite. As far as "unfavorite" male characters go, Dio is that guy that I love to hate. He's so awful. I like watching him get his butt handed to him. I don't know why, but the term "unfavorite" made me think of a character that you feel strongly negative about, but you still like.

There's far too many female characters that I love. I guess if I had to pick one that I like a lot lately, it's gotta be Nagato Yuki. She's absolutely adorable in the Disappearance movie and the new series that just came out.

As for a female character I have difficulty tolerating....Haruhi Suzumiya. She's got a cute character design, but she's SO selfish and inconsiderate. She's gotten better as the series has gone on (and isn't bad at all in the movie), but I've attempted to sit through the first haruhi series (and failed) several times because she's just so...ugh.

For my two choice cards, I'll take wry14 and data12, please!

Hmmmm Im going to keep this Silent Hill themed, because there isn't anyone here I think I would offend with like/dilikes.

(Avoiding obvious spoilers here.. but sorry if i say to much)
1. I really like Heather (f) and James (m). A lot of people might hate the latter, because of the choices he has made in life, but Honestly, much like Heather, I feel they are just both to... human, and It's something I really like about them.

2. This is Kind of Hard. There isn't like a character I hate so much, I get mad when I see them or anything. But hmmm I guess least favorite would be just the characters from SHSM. Lisa Garland is probably one of my favorite Female characters, and just ugh.. I just hate her so much in Shattered Memories. I get the game was making the characters different, but she just as a character alone, was hate-able to me, but being someone I originally loved in the original, just made it worse. I liked her in SH0 even, but just ugh... no. Then for a male on that note, I guess I didn't like Kauffman either. Again, His personality and type just seemed different and off in Shattered Memories. in 1/0, he is just a person whom has his own agenda and doesn't care about other people at all. But in Shattered Memories, he is just there as a 'therapist' for the main character, which just doesn't fit him at all. I guess you can argue to say 'Well he WAS a doctor' yes, but he wasn't this type of doctor, and the fact he never was portrayed as having alterior motives or anything in SHSM just kinda killed it for me.

3. I prefer Claudia over Dahlia. Both kind of had the same goals, but while one seemed more malicious, the other seemed more confused then anything. Claudia I think in another upbringing, would not have been focused on her goal like she was in SH3. Both Had the same end goal, but Dahlia seemed like she wanted more power then anything, while Claudia wanted to make thigns better, even if it ment she would be punished for it. For that reason, I like Claudia as a character, but not so much as Dahlia.

4. I love Harry Mason (sh1), but I haaaate Harry Mason (shsm). Both play the same role in there games; Father looking for there daughter Cheryl in an unfamiliar town. While I think I just have a certain bias towards Shattered Memories as a whole, I just don't like how there is different portrayals of the characters. The first game, no matter what, Harry is a wonderful and caring dad, who doesn't seem to have any sort of 'personal demons', but now, Silent Hill is all about 'Personal Demons' and in Shattered Memories, they just push that onto Harry to much, making some of his personal stories pretty pathetic.

5. Simple grouping here: Red Pyramaid Thing & Nurses (SH2), and Pyramaid Head and Nurses (everything else). Both characters tend to get over used now in all Silent Hill games. Nurses I can understand for certain games, as the yall have different 'meanings' however, its now the thing to make both of these characters based off there SH2 counterparts: Sexy Sexy. This mainly showes in SH5, which while I do like kind of, they took the inspiration for the nurses (and P-Head) from the American Movie, which took inspiration from SH2's design. As it was, I already felt SH4 was kind of pushing it with the Nurses, but since the designs were unique enough, it Never bothered me. But with SH5, The movies, Phone Games, the Arcade, and Book of Memories, it just feels over used and rescrapped. Sure, a lot of those games are uncanon, and use these familiar characters on purpose, but These characters were unique to one person, and one person alone. The enemies were ment for James originally, and now, every game they try to think of a way to explain why the Nurses all look the same (repressed sexual urges is over used.) and why there is a Pyramid Head. Sure they were great for that ONE GAME, but now its just brand recognition and just annoying.

** Dont get me wrong, I love all the Silent Hill games, The movie is one of my favorite movies of all time, and I have spent a lot of money playing the Arcade game as well. They are not horrible or bad, and honestly If I hated them as much as I really make it seem, I wouldn't even be a fan of the series. I just kinda get bummed out when I see a new game and having the feeling that they didn't work on enemie designs at all (cough SHSM cough SHDP cough)

WHOOPES DID YOU SAY TO RANT? Cause I think I did. Anyways, I am going to take: ccarayhua17 (f), dinosaur14 (m), and fivetastic20!

♥ Favourite Male
Kazuaki Nanaki, he's basically the archetype I tend to go for which is troubled blond characters (It helps if they're small, which king quails are, and if they have fluffy hair, which his human design does). A~nd I should probably cut for spoilers here: I guess I should clarify that I'm talking about the original, since the one shown in the main game is very different although I like him too. I guess I can relate to him a little, especially in the Shrine!AU where he seems to understand that if he wants to make a positive change that he has to be the one to make it which is something I feel very strongly about. Actually I feel very strongly about Kazuaki in the Shrine!AU all together. In the main game canon he's depressed and hopeless and eventually gets murdered in a false suicide pact but then we have this AU where he's still depressed but he has support and a job and the will to keep going like, wow proud of you ♪

♥ Favourite Female
Wriggle Nightbug is the firefly prince of my heart! I'm not sure what drew me to her, even though Imperishable Night was the first game I played she didn't stand out much to me but somehow I grew to like her a lot. I guess roleplaying her a bit helped? I just got the sudden urge to try it out and I ended up thinking about her character so much more. She's basically a tiny hurricane and I can't help but be endeared and her design is super cute as well. I guess the fact that I'm kind of interested in bugs as well helps. I dunno, I feel like she's one of those characters that's my favourite just because she is. I can't really explain it but I think she's great!

I have so many favorite characters that it's hard to pick just a few.

My all-time favorite female character is, hands-down, Tsukino Usagi from Sailor Moon. This girl just grows so much and experiences so much, and never, ever loses her love for people. She's not perfect by any means, but that's part of her charm.

As for favorite male characters, this is a lot harder, but I'm kind of leaning towards Akihiko Sanada from Persona 3 because he's the biggest dork in the world. I have a soft spot for characters who seem like badasses but are instead just kind of huge nerds.

I'll take burstspear09 and azuresky03!

kuranosuke: Prince of Tennis ★ Shiraishi (Ahaha... ha)

[personal profile] kuranosuke 2015-06-21 03:28 pm (UTC)(link)
My favorite male character has been clear to me for quite a long time. I really love Shiraishi Kuranosuke from Prince of Tennis. He's a very good character, with a lot of good qualities. I won't start writing a new explanation as to why as I have already written a text about him on my tumblr c:

It's a bit harder to choose a favorite female character. I'll say Murasame Toko from Uragiri wa Boku no Namae wo Shitteiru. She's a very kind person with a lot of energy. She's a good older sister and gives the story the right amount of girl power, in my opinion. She's also very good friend even when the main character changes between the different lives.

A male character I don't like... welp, I think I should say Ali Al-Saachez from Gundam 00. He's just so irritating and makes my blood boil every time he appears on the screen. He always seems to arrive at the most inconvenient moments, seriously.

Saying who my least favorite female character though, is very easy. I really dislike Azusagawa Yukino from Yakitate!! Japan. She's a life-ruiner and a very, very annoying. I just want to throw something at the screen every time she appears.

I'd like electric09 (fem) & bloodwhip20 (male) as my choice cards.

I'll try to keep this as samurai-less as possible, for once :'D

It's really hard to pick just one, but as for my favorite male character this time I'll go with Kisumi Shigino from Free!, he's just so friendly to everyone and his name oh my god, I just can't help it, I love such word plays. And I love his playful and cheerful character. I wish that he appeared sooner in the series, I still have to read High Speed, though. He also seems like an awesome brother, Hayato is one lucky kid. Besides, he's the first character I decided to pick up when I discovered the world of dwrp.

My favorite female character is Kaori Miyazono from Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso/You Lie in April, she's just...so precious. I'll leave this spoiler-free, but she's so optimistic and strong despite everything that is happening. She's also pushing Kousei forward just like a real friend would do, yelling at him when he's slacking and supporting him when he needs it.

Moving onto the unfavorite characters, welp. I can't think of one, because I'm usually neutral or I just don't care about the characters I don't like, but I suddenly remembered Claude Faustus from the second season of Kuroshitsuji who drove me mad. I enjoyed the series although I'm not a huge fan and I don't follow the manga. But Claude Faustus. Nope, just nope, I don't want to see his ugly face. His actions made Ciel even more of a special snowflake of the series and well...I'm more of an Alois fan. And what he did to Alois was...just nope. I don't even know, I suppose I have a thing for the characters that irritate most of the people. I guess I should accept the fact that he's a demon and life is brutal, but...Claude is a big no-no.

Least favorite female...weeeeeelp. I didn't mind Yukari Takeba from Persona 3 during the game, but the Answer changed everything. Oh gosh. She really lost it there, she was so mean to everyone I just couldn't stand it. Actually, I wish I never touched the Answer ;_;

I'll take tonedeaf09 and live09, thanks!

I have far too many favorites, so to make this easier, let's just narrow it down and go with favorites in Dynasty Warriors, since I've been playing it a lot lately and working on donating the missing decks -

Except no, that's still too hard because there are so many characters I love? sob.

But one of my favorite males is Guo Jia. He's a great strategist, died before his time, comes up with some boss battle plans but he always seems more like he's worried about having a good time with his life than war or his own impending death. He also has a very soothing voice to listen to, and his moveset is a lot of fun to play with - it's low damage and a lot more technical than many others in the game, which is a blast once you get used to it.

Favorite female...well, I like a lot of them, but I've always really liked Zhenji, although I felt she was much more interestingly written back around DW4/5 and they've kind of lost a lot of what I enjoyed about her in 7/8 in favor of making her personality centered around her husband. Sigh. But she used to have this great icy elegance, and she doesn't take shit, and in DW5 she was perfectly content to prick holes in her husband's ego when he was letting it get away with him, which was so great. Also I'm a flutist, and she murders enemy hordes with a flute, so I'm a little biased.

Least favorite male...there aren't many in DW I honestly dislike, and I feel like picking on Dong Zhuo is too easy so I don't want to cop out like that, haha. Probably, my least favorite character who actually has a fanbase/isn't written specifically to be hated is Jia Chong. He's a decently written character and it's not really so much that I dislike him personally as I dislike a lot of things about the Jin story and how it makes use of its cast, though? Wang Yuanji's role feels like it shrank a lot as soon as he was added, and also Jin's story is just really WOW LOOK AT US BEING SO SMUG AND RIGHT ABOUT ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING LMAO and Jia Chong is one of the big offenders there. (Not to say that early Wei wasn't also kind of "we're right and benevolence is dumb," but I feel like it was balanced out a lot better by 1) the other sides having their own playable stories covering that time period, so you could see their end of things, which isn't the case with the late era story where only Jin gets a story mode, and 2) Wei isn't going LOLOL IMBECILES every other line of dialogue, and that catchphrase really started to grate on me after a while.)

Least favorite female: The Qiaos. God. I used to love Da and be pretty ok with Xiao but I feel like the writing on some of the women really tanked in the newer games, and the fact that Da's new super move starts with her cowering and going "eeee, get away from me!!" before knocking everything back with a blast just makes me go WHYYYYYYYYY. And Xiao being cute and spunky is fine but her main bit of story time in Wu's story was just LOL I KNOW WE"RE ON A MISSION TO RENDEZVOUS WITH THE ARMY AND FIGHT THIS OTHER KINGDOM BUT CAN WE STOP SO I CAN CATCH A PET ANIMAL :3c and it feels like someone decided that they didn't need to bother demonstrating any personality traits beyond "moe waifu" anymore. :|

I'll be taking razorwind15 and oshi10!
