COLORS CHAT #8

again by the lovely Casey.

It's time to sit back, relax, and pour yourself and ice cold glass of... milk. All these games are so great and fun but everyone needs a chance to just unwind and talk. So welcome to Colors Chat!

Here, you will get a topic and you can talk about it all you want. For cards, however, your initial post will need to be six sentences. Just listen to your heart and write what you feel like. For your six sentences, you'll get 5 cards. And you should always go around and talk to people, see if you can make new friends or old friends with new light on them or you know, just talk with everyone! It is a chat after all.

Today's topic:

Let's talk about love! In particular, I wanna talk about your ships. Your friendships, your relationships, your hateships. ...I do of course mean in fandom! Tell me about how much you adore Mario and Princess Peach or how much you think Wario and Daisy would make the bestest best friends of all time. No ship bashing here, no need to put down other ships to bring up your own.

For this game there's a super special set of prizes. For each comment before the end of the day on February 14th (11:59:59 pm MST), you will get one red crayon!

If those prizes weren't cool enough, then here's something else. Talk about one ship (friend, love, hate) in particular. Make it as long as you want. If they are in colors, you will get two random cards, one from each of their decks, in addition to your other prizes. WOW.

Please keep all comments civil and polite. You might disagree with someone, but please do not start a flame war. THANK YOU and enjoy your weeks!

I'm not going to name any ships BY NAME because I'm embarrassed...but I really love ships between unrequited loves. I'm really bad at shipping things except for ONE SHIP in a canon; I'm not a multishipper. Something about unrequited love ships just really gets to me and the gayer and sadder they are, the more I want to melt. Also unexpected love ships. Just kill me now...

Oh screw it, I guess I'll name one ship ( a family ship ) so I can get random ship cards, since I need them. I really love the brotherly relationship between Haruto and Kaito from YGO: Zexal (please, randomizer, be good to me and give me one of the four Haruto cards I don't have...). Their love for each other breaks my heart, I really love them a lot and I might actually keep watching for them :'(

I'm glad I could find a ship I hadn't mastered yet LMAO....

Ironically, this post went up just as I was working on a ship page on my tumblr... :|a

I love ships that stem from unexpected partnerships. For example, a super grumpy tsundere dude and a happy go luckier guy = A+++ to me. I love it when the characters in a ship fight like cats and dogs, but at the end of the day they care for each other like crazy and are extremely dere for each other. I also am pretty fond of anti-hero/hero ships -- not outright villain, though sometimes they stem from that! Basically, I love it when one half of the ship brings out the hidden good/dere/whatever side in the other, and vice versa.

A great example of this is Momiji and Ichiko from Binbougami ga! God, do those two start the series off completely antagonistic to each other. But through the trials they go through, they really learn to trust and care about each other. Even though they never stop fighting, at the end of the day they mean a lot to each other and are good balances for each other.

Brace yourselves, everyone, because here I go.

I'm an extremely picky shipper — as in, I only ship characters who I feel has the best chemistry and think they complement very well with each other. I would never ship Epicly Badass Female Character with Wishy Washy Guy #3006, or Moeblob with Snarky McSnarkster because I find the examples I listed to be boring and don't appeal to me at all.

I love, love, love pairings that include characters who don't get along at first, but slowly get to know each other and through common goals, they fall in love with one another. It also helps that they tend to help each other out, even if they won't admit it. Yeah it's cliché, but I adore it all the same. If they have a lot of UST with each other, I'm on that like white on rice.

Luckily I'm not as picky with friendships because as long as I like the characters and feel like their interactions are fun and fulfilling, I'll like their relationship as well.

And here's the part where I shamelessly c/p from an advent calendar reply I wrote about Nagisa and Rei from Free! because I really do love their friendship.

I absolutely love, love, love the bromance between Nagisa and Rei from Free! Unlike majority of the fandom, I actually prefer them better as BFFs. But anyway, Rei is this dorky, critical thinking kind of guy while Nagisa is the cheerful, mischievous type who makes fun of Rei so relentlessly. Despite how Rei gets annoyed at Nagisa's antics at times and how Nagisa never stops poking fun of Rei, the two boys really care about one another and support each other — in swimming and other things. Seeing their scenes together is hilarious.

I am absolutely obsessed with yaoi ships, and I swear it's not healthy! :3 Overall I love any guy/guy anime relationship, especially ones where there is a dominant who knows he wants the submissive, and has to seduce the submissive who is usually rather clueless.

A classic example of this is Junjou Romantica, however in particular I love the Prince of Tennis anime because it's 98% gorgeous males which sounds perfect for shipping! So, my particular ship that I've loved for a long time has been 'The Perfect Pair', Kunimitsu Tezuka and Shusuke Fuji from Prince of Tennis (collecting both their decks for this reason :P). They make such an amazing couple and have been the focus of numerous fanfics of mine!

But yeah, although I have many, many, many ships *cough*Natsu and Lucy*cough*, Tezuka and Fuji are my one true pairing, and yaoi couples are my obsession. :3

oh no, talking about ships. you're playing a dangerous game with me here - there are a lot of things that i ship, i will not lie. it doesn't matter if it's het, yaoi/yuri, i will ship the hell out of it if my heart goes doki doki over them. i will even ship them if they're cross-canon, nothing can stop me. nothing. there are just characters from different series that would go great together regardless, i can't help my shipping heart. but for example, i will talk about one of my favorite all time cross-canon ships.

mami tomoe from pmmm and oswald baskerville from pandora hearts.

it started out in a game a while ago and i sat here like oh no they seem so cute my heart is going to explode, BUT LOW AND BEHOLD I NEVER EXPECTED TO FIERCELY SHIP THEM LIKE I DO NOW. i'm very very very gomen to my partner in crime with this ship for having to deal with me going on and on about the at times, but i just can't help it. mami is such a darling young girl and oswald always treats her with such kindness and does whatever he can to help her out. my heart. i also know there is like. obvious age difference between those two but look at all the fricks i give, i give none. they are one of my shining ships in my heart and they will never go away. everrrrrrrrrr.

i think i'm done embarrassing myself just a little bit, but when it comes to mami and oswald. my heart can't go on. they both have had hard lives and i just wANT THEM TO BE HAPPY, OKAY?

Ships are like... my life. Hm... I don't have OTPs (and I never understood how people gain those.) I tend to enter a fandom, and go, "Okay, guys, I ship everyone/everyone, but not." I mean, there are ships that I don't ship, but I mostly ship everyone because, on some level, I can see it happening. For me, the ships that I like seeing are the ones with blurred lines. Like, something that sort of is romantic, but is platonic at the same time (maybe, bromance works as an explanation.)

Friendships and familial ships are mostly based on canon. Of course, I love making characters who seem to hate each other love to help one another out (in my headcanons. Yes, I have more than one.) Friendships are easy to pull off, for me, especially, especially, since I'm in the KHR fandom, which seems to have this "Friendship is Magic" atmosphere (and no, I don't care for MLP.)

Hateships, AKA Kismesissitude, is the one thing I have no ships for because... wait, am I talking about NOTP, or two characters that hate each other? Because if it's the latter, I can continue. Homestuck is the reason I have this name, and I don't have any ships because all characters should love each other or have the ability to kill each other. Nope, not sadistic at all.

My current ship, in Kuroko no Basuke, is Akashi/Kuroko. I love the two, if only because I can find fics for them think the dynamics would be interesting. Plus, there's a fic that has the parallel universe travelling, which probably has another name, but I can't think of it. The characters are beautiful by themselves, and they make everything much more beautiful together. (Plus, they're about the same height. It's not awkward~)

Despite what it seems like, I don't only ship guys with other guys. I ship everything short of animals with humans. (And the dead, except that LoTR parody in the KHR fandom...)

Another thing I realized; the more tragic a story I can spin out, or find, or create in my mind for my headcanon, the more I ship it.
minteaprince: and so we run in circles (hot chocolate)

[personal profile] minteaprince 2014-02-11 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
Oh dear...getting started on this topic huh...O u O;; I'm glad this isn't tumblr oh gosh

Well then, in terms of ships, I have a tendency to fall so hard so very hard for ships that are broken relationships. Like something that was beautiful and lovely and adorable and then suddenly not so much so...THE DEEPER THEY FALL, THE MORE I SPIRAL INTO HELL WITH THEM-
Hahaaaaa, that sounds so very masochistic... _:(´ཀ`」 ∠):_

I guess another common trait with my ships are that...well they're super uncommon. I have a tendency to ship things that well, to everyone else, makes no sense. Hence, my life is less of a ship, and more of a piece of driftwood in the wide wide ocean. But that's alright! Because I think love can transcend all! Even if they're not canon! Even if they don't seem to like each other! Even if they haven't talked before! Even if they haven't even met each other before!
... ... ...ヽ(;▽;)ノ

Well, in honesty, I just like to think of the interactions between characters, regardless of whether they've met. I mean, they could have met most times but let's not get into that, and if they did, how would their relationship be (romantic or otherwise). Haven't you ever looked at some characters and thought, 'wow, those two would have made the greatest team/friends/etc.'? I mean, a series can't portray EVERY second of all the characters' lives, so what do they do with that time? Just the mere potential of it makes me giddy-

On that note, my ultimate, and also super uncommon OTP would be Squalo x Dino from Reborn!; they make me weep so many bittersweet tears- _(:c 」∠)_

But no for the special event, I'm going to talk about another rarepair of mine that might be more identifiable but still as painfully subdued in the series. Mikoshiba Seijurou and Matsuoka Rin. can you see the problems already YES THIS IS WHAT I WANT AND IT IS MY CHOICE. I really like their dynamic though, whatever parts of it you can see in the show. Not only that, I think their personalities complement each other very well. Rin has a very contrasting personality, where he's as strong as he is weak, he's abrasive and hard to get along with, and the things he says aren't the things he means. Mikoshiba gets straight to the point, he's enthusiastic and competitive, but intuitive, and he knows when it's appropriate to be authoritative versus gentle. In short, I think they make a very good balance for each other and I could go on for ages but don't get me started sob-
Lucky for me, this ship actually sorta has a pairing name, I think: powerhouseshipping
I also like Makorin someone please talk to me

and wow that turned out to be very long oh dear im out of control someone put me down "OTZ
♫~this is just the tip of the iceberg~~~~♪

I don't really ship romantically all that much, mostly because I don't really care either way about it I guess? But I'm all for platonic best friend forever type ships. People who are super close unconditional friends who will do everything they can and move the moon to help the other. Or just two people who really, really get along and I just love seeing them together and they're just so happy side by side. People who make the other's life better just by being there. It doesn't have to be romance to be a super important relationship, and that's what I like - the importance of it.

As an example that I haven't mastered yet, um..., I'll go with Kurow and Chibiterasu from Okamiden. Sure, on the surface it's a floating alien boy and his godly wolf puppy, but they just mean so much to each other. Look at how much Chibi is able to accomplish only while Kurow is by his side. Look at how much sunlight Chibi brought into Kurow's previously lonely existence. Look at how close they are when spoiler spoiler happens and Kurow expects Chibi to hate him but Chibi still cares so much about him. It just makes me so warm and fuzzy inside~ (and makes spoiler spoiler spoiler so much more heartbreaking but)

I'm really not much of one for shipping! I think that some pairings are cute and there's a few that I just can't stand, but in general I don't have any strong feelings one way or the other. The ships that I like best tend to be the ones that are either already established or get together quickly. Doubly so if the focus isn't largely on their relationship and it's just accepted as a fact. The will they, won't they and other forms of artificial drama just don't do it for me.

Friendships, partnerships and family bonds tend to hold a lot more appeal for me. I'm much less picky about them haha... There's really nothing in particular that catches my interest though, honestly. As long as it's interesting and the characters have chemistry, I can appreciate all flavors.

Isaac and Miria from Baccano! is probably one of the few things that I really ship. It fits the above criteria of being natural and accepted. They work well together, they're even described as being one soul in two bodies. Their antics are adorable and their interactions with other characters are charming. They really compliment each other well.

Oh, shipping. I ship a lot of things, and it's usually more rare that I don't wind up shipping something from a series!

Half the time, if there's a canon ship intended? I'll wind up shipping it. My ultimate all-time OTP is one I've shipped for years and years - the classic Sailor Moon pairing of Usagi and Mamoru. I love that idea of 'this was destined since forever'.

I also wind up liking pairings where it comes off one-sided at first - Haseo and Endrance from .hack//G.U. is this pairing for me. It starts off so one-sided, but in the end, both characters grow and change enough that I think it works. They're good influences on each other in their own weird way.

And then there are the cross-canon ships - the first two decks I mastered here came from a cross-canon ship that happened in RP, with Ryoji Mochizuki from Persona 3 and Yukiko Amagi from Persona 4. They're cute and somehow manage to balance each other. IDK THEY WORK, OKAY.

So yeah. I could go on forever about shipping, I really, really could.

I'm admittedly not a huge shipper when it comes to romantic ships—not that I don't have romantic ships, but I generally don't go looking for them or think, "HEY Character A & Character B would be cute together hehehe =u=." So most of my ships do tend to be canon, aha, since it's typically seeing those characters interact that gets me shipping them.

However, I do utterly adore platonic ships! Unlike the above, this one doesn't necessarily require heavy canon interactions for both parties, and I wouldn't say I have any real pattern as to the friendships I adore.

One particular friendship (while not my ultimate broship of this series, particularly involving Fujimaru, I already have most of Ken's deck sob) is Takeru Shakudou and Fujimaru Akutsu from Shirayukihime to 7-nin no Shuujin! With the latter being something of an anti-villainous counterpart to the former, Takeru's really good for Fujimaru (on an emotional level), as Fujimaru starts off the series with no hope and Takeru is, well, practically ~HOPE PERSONIFIED~. Thus, Takeru believes in Fujimaru to make up for the lack of faith Fujimaru has in himself, and eventually, that's what gets Fujimaru to stand up for himself and regain hope for a better future. AND IT'S REALLY SWEET OKAY. Also, being the two teenagers among the main characters, they can be serious dorks, and their dorkiness gets amplified when around each other.

I'm a multishipper and legitimately don't know how I can begin as a result. Hell, I barely know how to arrange my mastered decks as a result. It's an ongoing problem.

But why don't I talk about one of my favorite Sekirei ships since I'm collecting their decks right now (demonic and deadly)? Which would be Yukari and Shiina, of course. It's not that they kind of switch up the typical m/f romance by making Yukari the pervy go-getter who's the hero of her own story and Shiina the soft-spoken moe-eyed bishounen, but it's their unrelenting badassery. They hook up when Yukari picks Shiina up to save him from a battle, runs across the city carrying him, and sticks him in her room. But their relationship is also such that if Yukari commits arson and leaps from the 50th floor of a now-burning building, she fully expects Shiina to catch her before she reaches terminal velocity. Shiina in return has his doubts over the inherent cross-species nature of their relationship but sort of discards it in the face of the inherent YOLO that Yukari represents. The Demon Ashikabi and Death-God sekirei just love each other and wander the city kicking domestic abusers in the nuts, that is their thing.

Since I'm in the middle of playing through Persona 2: Eternal Punishment (I beat Persona 2: Innocent Sin a bit ago), I have to say that I can't see Tatsuya with anyone but Jun. ;; They hit pretty much every single point I love in a ship. Without spoiling, they used to be childhood friends, and while they used to play with their group of friends, it looks like they may have been the only two to actively hang out with each other when they weren't with that group.

They also exchanged their most treasured possessions with each other ten years before the game starts-- Tatsuya giving Jun his father's watch and Jun giving Tatsuya his father's zippo lighter-- and they still keep them with them wherever they go. They're also constantly compared to each other, with party members saying that they're practically each other's shadows or doppelgangers. At the very least, Jun does canonically have a crush on Tatsuya (If the drama CDs are of any indication; the kid is borderline yandere when it comes to him), and eventually you're allowed to choose between three party members to be your lover. ... Although I guess it's technically four, but you don't get anything out of one them since the option is there for humor.

If you pick Jun, you get a negotiation ability with him where they basically flirt with each other. Tatsuya never says anything because he's supposed to be a silent protagonist, but Jun understands him despite that. Jun can also sense how Tatsuya's Persona is feeling, which is apparently a very difficult thing to do according to the directors. It just feels like they were made for each other, and they both go through so much in both games that they deserve a happy ending. ;;

Speaking of the drama CDs, though, I normally hate yandere characters, but Jun is definitely my favorite character in Innocent Sin. I was talking to a friend about it, and I think we both agreed that as long as they don't commit any acts of violence to other characters, I'm fine with it. You don't see any hints of it in game, which is why I was a little surprised to hear it in the drama CD. It's mostly played for laughs, though. One of the other party members-- Lisa-- also canonically has a crush on Tatsuya, but Jun thinks Eikichi is his competition and obsessively looks up horoscopes to see who's more compatible with him. Not to mention that Eikichi is the humor option I mentioned and flat out rejects you if you confess your love to him...

I just love the both of them together and I wish the older Persona games were as popular as 3 and 4 (Which I also love!). They barely have any fanfics, and I reached the end of their tag on Pixiv the other day because of how short it is orz. I guess they're better off than the cast of the first Persona though; I don't think I've seen fanfic for that at all...

I feel like I either ship everything or nothing in most series, for some reason. Though I don't always even ship that everything at first, either! My "I SHIP EVERYTHING WOW HOLY CRAP" poster child is Hakuouki, but when I first played the game I didn't ship most stuff all that strongly (yeah, not shipping much in a romance game, way to miss the point, Sam). I was pretty much there for the ~INTENSE PLATONIC BONDS~ and the historical drama, but I blame RP for making me wind up shipping everything, because now I am a card-carrying member of the Shinsengumipile For Life society.

So even the things I ship, I tend to start out not necessarily shipping, but just really digging their interactions in every light other than romantic. A lot of my ships I started out caring about either because they're best friends for life, or because someone is really intensely and obsessively devoted to the other, often but not necessarily always in a superior/subordinate relationship of some kind. Then somewhere along the line (especially if I RP one of the pair), I wind up shipping it on top of my love for them being platonic. I think this probably has a lot to do with why I'm a multishipper who doesn't really care about shipwars; I love most of my ships equally well as romantic or as not, so it's easy to just kanyeshrug at everything.

And for a specific one I'm digging at the moment: I recently (finally, I am super late to the party) read Pandora Hearts, and Oz Vessalius and Gilbert Nightray are pretty excellent. I get the deep intense friendship and I get the deep intense subordinate loyalty; it's like having my cake and eating it too. And while I'm not shipping it romantically at the moment, well, let me go RP for half a year and get back to you, because man, it always happens.

It's definitely in front of a bridal shop; you're right! I know one of the directors ships them a lot, too (The other director ships Tatsuya/Maya if I'm remembering right), and he said that if it was up to him, Tatsuya/Jun would have been the canon ship in the game. Despite not being canon, they're pretty close to it, ahaha.

OH NO SHIPPING.........yes i'm a very filthy shipper. it's really difficult for me to go through any one series without at shipping at least one thing.

my taste in ships greatly vary and might seem inconsistent at first glance. but the one consistent thing is that they're extremely devoted to each other, made promises and are probably unhealthy. also yes i'm a filthy fujoshi and yuri fiend. i tend to not really care if it's canon or not. just enough significant interaction, official merch featuring them together and a decent sized fandom producing enough material is more than enough fuel for me. i mean if they legit become canon at some point than that's just a bonus for me.

i've mastered most of my ships or at least one half of it. let's go with madohomu for now. i love how much homura cared for madoka and went through hell and back for her. when homura first saw madoka you can just tell the girl fell in love with her at first sight. but damn if it isn't so unhealthy, considering how obsessive homura gets as result of her feelings for her.

also echoing everyone else in as a result i have no idea how to arrange my mass decks as a result. i want to arrange them by ships but i dont want the few characters i dont ship with anyone to be all alone. sob.
