Advent Calendar Day 15

Welcome to the late day 15 cause I'm a butt lately! /sobs softly/

Today's topic is a Holiday story you will always remember! This could be anything from happy to funny to sad. Just a story/event that happened near the holiday's for you that stuck out. Something you always seem to bring up each year, maybe? If you don't, just any particular Holiday story is great! Just something that you'd enjoy telling!

For answering this, You may choose a choice 15 card! No need to wait for me to respond, either. Go ahead and grab it! And just like all Advent Calendar days, This will end December 31st!

my best holiday story would have to be christmas in 2004. we had bought our tree and everything was hunky dory until about 4 days before christmas eve. every time we touched the tree or tried to water it, needles would fall off it a la charlie brown. this ended up getting worse and worse until our tree ended up looking like this.

needless to say, we got a fake tree that year! taking research15~

I love holiday seasons but it's hard to really pinpoint anything specific that's ever happened that I'd say qualify for this? I'm not super huge on christmas stories so I don't have classics to share either :|a The only thing I guess I could mention is that a few years ago I went to Disneyland with my mother and my aunts (my mother and I try to go together whenever we can as it's a tradition for us) and though I already went for christmas with my sister and friends once it was the first time with her in that time period and it was pretty cool! My mother and I both share the same love for shiny things and stuff so we had a lot of fun together...

Hmm. I don't really have a holiday story. Normally, I go up to my best friend's house who is more like my adopted family and on Christmas me and her have this weird tradition of watching Star Trek and some Harry Potter movie (normally one of the first two). I guess the most holiday story I have is driving somewhere from home on Christmas eve when I was about eight or so and just hoping to get home and seeing a red light in the sky. And being the big fan of Rudolph I am-- Rudolph is my main holiday squeeze, okay-- I got all excited :c It's still something I remember all the exact details of.

...And since Rudolph's nose is red I will take cantus15!

Oh, I've actually got a pretty good holiday story.

My mother's pregnancy with my sister was a very difficult one the whole way through, and during Christmas Eve/early Christmas Day she started hemorrhaging. I was four at the time, and rather than go to the hospital immediately my mom wanted to go through the usual Christmas morning routine so that I'd have a nice Christmas and so I wasn't upset on a holiday, which was really rad of her.

So she's laid up on the couch looking like death while I unwrap my gifts, sort of trying to pay attention to me and what I'm doing but obviously in a lot of pain. My aunt comes over to help out since she'd heard what happened and starts talking to my mom like everything's fine, chatting about my future school possibilities and the like. This culminates in her asking my mom if she could make the coffee, since "I'm awful at it, Marty (my uncle) usually makes it at home".

My mom just gives her this Look, and there's a perfect sitcom beat before my aunt remembers the situation and is like oh I guess I'll make it. Meanwhile I'm still rocketing around the room in my nightgown and flipping my shit over the gifts I got (MOTHERFUCKIN SKYDANCERS YO) with absolutely no notice of what's going on around me.

This is all made even better when you know that my dad was sitting in the dining room filming all of this instead of actually doing anything. We've got the whole Christmas on tape and that's why we all remember and laugh about it so much.

(and yes, my mom did go to the hospital after and both she and my sister were fine)

Taking tenseiga15 for my tale of holiday hilarity.

I've had many unpleasant Christmas'. My father had a drinking problem and my relatives (and family friends, neighbours) were kind enough to give him booze as a present. So the result was a lot of trauma just for Christmas. Needless to say, this holiday isn't my favorite.

So, my favorite Christmas' so far have been the ones where my dad hasn't had a drink. At all. He's been avoiding drinking in general, but especially on Christmas holidays. So while it's a rather boring story, my love goes for the nights where it's actually quiet and there's peace in the world and I can feel the warmth of my family.

Taking rivalry15. Thank you.

idk, the one thing I seem to bring up each year is the time my cat knocked over our Christmas tree. BASICALLY he was like, three months old by the time Christmas rolled around the first time, so he could climb into the tree and just perch there like it was no problem. The next year, he tried it and ended up falling over... onto me as I was sitting at the computer desk.

My step-dad ended up bolting a rod to the tree and the wall to keep it from falling the rest of that year. But Moose seemed to get the idea after that and didn't bother trying to climb it again. Cats that are quick learners are the best uwu

My holidays have always been so uneventful that I really can't think of any good stories right now! Even more so now that I live 400 miles away from my extended family, haha... I used to be the really selfish kid who didn't like to share her toys, though, so I remember loudly telling my sister NO YOU CAN'T PLAY WITH [x thing I got] and getting into a huge fight Christmas morning, haha... I've gotten better about this, though, I promise!

I have a few different holiday stories, but one that really stands out is from a few years ago. I'd moved to a big city from a small town a few months prior, and I wasn't going to get to see my family at Christmas that year. My significant other tuned into the fact that I was feeling down about it and surprised me with a little Christmas tree decorated with Hello Kitty ornaments to cheer me up. It was really sweet. ;;

I don't really have any holiday stories of note, at least not as far as I can remember! I guess to count for the advent calendar topic, though, I could mention how I went to this amusement park called Santa's Village as a little kid, when I lived in California.

I don't remember a great deal of anything though aside from that it was up in the mountains, had snow, and was (of course) x-mas themed.

I don't really have a super amazing holiday story, but I remember one year, when I was snooping around in my mother's room, I found all the Christmas presents she got for me. I had to lie about it and somehow convincingly acted surprised when I opened them. She still has no idea.

I don't really have any Christmas/holiday stories? Mine have been uneventful, peaceful and I remember my family + my cousins from dad's side of the family (since mom's doesn't have any) and both of my grandparents used to gather together into either our house or to my paternal grandparents' huge house to eat and get presents etc.

I remember one Christmas when I was at my dad's new home, the first granddaughter of her new wife overturned the Christmas tree. ...Me and his uncle sort of got blamed for it, but then again, no one in the other room had watched over her either, so no one knew she was there. She was fine anyways, it was amusing to me and the guy as soon as the surprise and worry for the kid was over. :D And I think they made us play with the kid while they put the tree back in its place etc.

Mostly i remember last year (ha, no surprise since it's the most recent one). I was at my mom's house - going there again this year, so this is going to happen again - and my niece came there too. ...and then she just wanted to spend time with me, baking Christmas goodies and watching movies etc because I hadn't been there for a long time. Mom had told her that I would be there for a while, but I ended up being there for more than a week. The kid stayed with me almost all the time too. XD And that was actually really nice, accidental holiday from everything on the Internet too since I had no time or energy for it. ...not that I'm even taking my laptop there this time, it would just stay in a corner almost all the time, so not bothering to take it at all.

Back in Christmas of 2010, I was dancing along with my cousins and spending quality time with my uncle, aunt, and mom. I think I was attempting to get drunk out of the strawberry vodka/soda mix I made. It was kinda funny, but that's all I could remember.

Actually, every New Year's Day moment I've had was great. Just seeing the tradition of burning paper mâche dolls in the streets was epic. It's a tradition in Ecuador and yes, it actually exists.

Yeah, we don't really have many stories of around the holidays honestly. I do remember staying up super late last year on Christmas Eve/Day to help get up our final release for a set of 12 Days of Christmas that my subbing group was working on and then crashing after that. I wasn't allowed to use the computer itself over the actual holiday so I had to squish everything in there before it happened.

When I was about four, I was sleeping in my sister's room with her on Christmas Eve. I ... think it was decided that we'd do it that way so as not to wake up our mom at five in the morning with excitement? It might have been so that we didn't knock over the tree running around. Anyway, Christmas Eve, I'm four, and it's the middle of the night. I woke up because I thought I heard something. Now, I was not willing to get out of bed, because that's what naughty children did on Christmas Eve. I could, however, look out the hall window from bed, so I did.

And I saw Rudolf's glowing red nose.

There was frost on the window and it was hard to see out of on the best of days, BUT I SAW THAT GLOWING RED LIGHT. And I knew that Santa was there. So I hurried to go back to sleep and be a good girl.

My mother was shocked to hear that I saw the reindeer. A decade later, I realized it was probably the lights from her car when she was pulling gifts out of the trunk, but Rudolf is far more magical. Besides, who else could have eaten the oats and carrots we left in the yard?

There aren't any big Holiday stories for me to share, but one year during gift exchange back when I was very young myself along with my cousins would repeatedly press the button on one of those talking/singing fish things that hang on walls, my grandfather had one. It was pretty funny, and I remember eventually my grandfather took it away from us and put it up on a shelf where we couldn't reach. I think that was probably a good thing. Looking back on it, I'm pretty certain everyone else eating and trying to open their gifts were probably getting very tired of hearing it over and over and over.

For my choice card, I'll be taking favoring15. Thank you!

hm! i don't really have a holiday story - i don't. remember holidays well because they pass so quickly and unevent..fully.... that it never really occurred to me to remember anything that happened? the only things i remember were opening a present early the day before christmas over my dad's with everyone else, and then over at mom's there's last year's christmas! that was spent with my cousins who really didn't get anything for christmas from anyone but us, so 8|a needless to say, mom spent a lot of money last year! it was super nice of her to give them a christmas when they would'tve otherwise had one.

i can't remember anything specifically from these holidays, my aunt always had these big gettogethers at her place every year and it was great seeing all of them bc we dont really see each other rest of the year. we always stayed up to open presents right at midnight and wouldn't come home til about 3. though that's changed since me moved years ago :(

I think the only story i have that qualifies for this is the year (it was like 2008 or 9?? i can't remember right now) my grandmother and i bought tons of gifts for two kids we picked in the mall as part of this charity thing where you picked a kid's name off the tree and then had to get them the presents they selected. but instead of just that we got them all kinds of stuff and delivered it and they were very happy uwu i think that's the only Christmas that i've really enjoyed.

I don't know if this counts for this topic, but it is Christmas related. For years, I would go to the mall during the holidays with my mom to go shopping and I would see the Angel Trees where you can buy gifts for underprivileged children. For the longest time I wanted to do it but I couldn't because I didn't have the money for it and I felt so bad. But this year, I was able to get an angel and get both things on their Christmas list because I had the money! I was so excited because I know that I will make some kid somewhere really happy this year and it feels amazing :)

I don't really have any Christmas stories, but I guess one thing of note is that last year, as my oldest step-brother was away teaching English in Korea, he couldn't come back home for Christmas. Because of that, on Christmas Eve, my other siblings and I set up Skype and connected the laptop to the TV screen and chatted with him that way, which was nice!

Sadly, the first story that comes to mind is a Thanksgiving story, which can be summed up as 'the first time I tried to take the bus to Boston over Thanksgiving Break, I ended up marooned on the side of the Mass Pike for many, many hours'. Most of my holidays have been pleasantly uneventful.

Well, the cat knocked over the tree on me once. Now we have fake trees, because they make less of a mess. We also once had a snowstorm, which marooned my sister at her in-laws.

hmmmmm this actually would've happened before the holidays but it was holiday related. i was 10, near 11 when my little brother was born - he happened to be born on the same weekend we had the santa claus parade. as a matter of fact, my dad took my sister and i to see him right before we went to the parade. i was super happy at the time, because i didn't know yet that new baby = crying...all....the.........time.......................

strangely, i don't remember anything about that christmas, but i do remember i was way too excited to actually sit down for the santa claus parade!

So, many many years ago, when my sister was a toddler and I was in elementary school, my family still occasionally went to church. One year, our church handed out these cute little boxes with miniature gifts of the magi inside. I know the "gold" was pyrite, but the frankincense and myrrh were most likely real. Being a lover of all things miniature (we're talking shiny holiday boxes that were maybe 3"x1" and divided into little compartments with a gift in each one) I totally took one home.

I swear I took my eyes off it only for like five seconds, but during those five seconds, my sister ate the frankincense and myrrh (I guess the pyrite didn't look appetizing?).

Well, my mom freaked out and immediately called our local Poison Control number. The trouble was, we didn't actually know if it was real frankincense and myrrh or not, so we couldn't even tell them for sure what she'd eaten. There was added hilarity when the person on the other end of the phone went, "... are you Dr. [my dad's name]'s family?" Eventually it was decided that she'd probably be fine, and she was, though she didn't learn the lesson about sticking things in her mouth. But the habanero pepper is another story completely.
