Advent Calendar Day 13

DAY 13: Triskaidekaphobia!

That is -- the irrational fear of the number 13! Do you jump the 13th step? Or maybe avoid flying on Friday the 13th? If you don't have any 13 related superstitions feel free to share any others. Broken mirrors, ladders, black cats, not washing your socks on game day, etc!

For answering this you can immediately take one choice card numbered 13 and you'll get one random special! This post will be open until December 31st like the rest of the advent posts!

I'm not a very superstitious person consciously meaning that I don't purposely avoid doing things that'll bring me "bad luck" but there are some culture-related things that I do, like not wearing anything white on my head. So I guess there's that, hahaha.

With that, I'll be taking inherit13

Nah, i'm pretty chill about Friday the 13th. I'm not big on superstition, but I do knock on wood every once and awhile.

Taking america13!

I'm not terribly superstitious, but I was raised superstitious, if that makes sense -- so I kind of engage in superstitious behaviours regardless. Spill salt, have to throw it over my shoulder regardless. I mean, I really doubt any witches are passing behind me in my kitchen, and if they are I should probably offer them a nice cuppa instead of blinding them, but there it is regardless. My mom's extremely supersitious, so some of it rubbed off on me.

I'll grab silenthero13!

i'm not too superstitious. i think i used to be when i was a kid, but soon i learned (from being constantly told) that it was just a bunch of riffraff meant to scare kids into behaving! ...which made a lot of sense around my house because of my great many siblings. dad and grandma still seem to think that wearing something associated with the red wings is going to make them play better in their hockey games, though. i do get paranoid when things do happen, but-- i mostly try to avoid thinking about it u_u there's no point worrying over something you honestly no control over, right?

i hereby claim illomen13 in the name of irony...!!!

I'm not entirely superstitious, though I won't say I'm not since there's probably things I do without even realizing it! I thing superstitions are fascinating, whether they're cautionary tales or based on folklore.

I'll take hymn13!

I'm not superstitions at all. Friday the 13th is just a normal day to me. I didn't even notice it was the 13th last Friday.

Taking gal13!
saya: (KHR - Lambo)

.......I think of the Friday 13 as a lucky day... and 13 in my life3 was always a lucky number. So well... I don't really have any superstition for the unluck, but I do take great pleasure of making fun of my bff when she starts to over exaggerate with the black cats crossing her way, or not being sure if it's ok to go out on Friday the 13th... I think I even lived in an apartment that was numbered 13.

Actually the only superstition that I do have is when I have to do something or go somewhere, nobody has to say: everything will be ok, because if somebody does, it will go all wrong u.u/

taking owner13

I don't really believe in superstitions, at least not the usual ones. Since I grew in an Asian family most of my superstitions are Asian, especially God related. My Hubby in other hand is quite superstitious in a lot of stuff.

But more than superstitions, I admit I am more a person of routine that gets uneasy if something doesn't get according to routine and that things will go catastrophic because of karma.

And taking wafu13.

I'm not a very superstitious person, though I guess I do try to go out of my way not to break mirrors. On Friday the 13th, my biggest concern is not going to check out the BPAL website, cause I know they'd have a new limited edition scent, that day, and perfume oils are an expensive habit!

Taking magi13.

[personal profile] aaveplsgo 2013-12-15 06:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't believe in bad luck or Friday 13th being special or anything like that. The only superstitions I really have are ones related to weather - as a kid I read a lot of folklore on predicting the weather and it's stuck with me even though I know a lot of it isn't accurate at all.

Taking pragmatic13!

[personal profile] anesidorian 2013-12-15 07:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Iiii am not super superstitious? Though I guess I refuse to let my arm or a leg hang off the side of the bed just in case something tries to grab me from underneath it. I have no idea if that counts as a superstition, though :'D More like an irrational fear.

taking disarm13!
witcher: (you put your left armin)

[personal profile] witcher 2013-12-15 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I am moderately superstitious, honestly. If I spill salt, I toss some over my shoulder, I avoid doing anything on Friday The Thirteenth and I don't like the number thirteen in general. There are some like the thing with black cats and stuff that are just ridiculous to me though.

also taking punches13
bringthefate: (Default)

I'm not really a superstitious person. Though the only things I do that are most likely superstitious...I avoid cracks when I'm walking, not because I believe the whole 'break your mothers back thing', I just avoid them as well as the street drains. I can't walk over those. I also knock on wood most times so not to jinx myself.

I will be taking melodrama13. Thank you!
tempestuously: ([gravi] nobel prize for evil?)

[personal profile] tempestuously 2013-12-15 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I have absolutely no superstitions. I just believe zombies show up after it gets dark and try to be outside as little as possible if I'm alone. So that's more of a random fear.

I'm not really afraid of the number 13. However, when I watch the 49ers on TV I bring my teddy bear with its jersey out and wear my 49er sweater. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

I will take instructor13
kyaaa: March Hare, Are You Alice? (buubuu)

[personal profile] kyaaa 2013-12-16 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not really... superstitious in a ritualistic sense, but I am paranoid; I get concerned about noises I can't identify and one time I saw writing on the ground that said "look up" and I was like HELL TO THE NO so. I don't really feel anything when it comes to black cats or broken mirrors, but things that could possibly be horrible and awful are totally horrible and awful

I'll take seventeen13!
naegg: (Default)

When I was younger I remember being scared of black cats, thats why I refused to go to my grandma's place, because she had three!

Strangely enough, Friday the 13ths tend to be pretty lucky days for me, but I am slightly superstitious.

I tend to avoid cracks when I can, and breakin mirrors make me super nervous, but not to an extreme length.

Taking restore13

[personal profile] yuugiri 2013-12-17 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
I have a legit phobia of the paranormal (don't look at me) and go out of my way to avoid any place that gives me bad vibes, and refuse to watch horror movies. (I'm OK with stories about harmless ghosts tho... kinda)

Taking loligothic13.

[personal profile] ex_painter182 2013-12-17 03:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not SUPER superstitious though I do touch wood and cross my fingers for some stuff, lmao. Others are a bit of a common sense thing like not walking under ladders and breaking mirrors. I do get more superstitious when the Chinese Hungry Ghost Festival rolls around though. I try to get home before dark really falls because I am as timid as the tiniest mouse around. :|

Grabbing mechanical13!

Nah, I'm not really superstitious at all. I'll let other people be with what they want to do, but I usually don't let these types of things scare me, because I'm just skeptical of almost anything. I feel like I'm more on the Battler Ushiromiya end of the scale in which I'm just resistant to magic-related things. :P That said, I'm still not immune to being freaked out hearing scary noises at night.

Taking viewpoint13!
rainkyou: (Default)

I never sleep during night with a 13 in the date, I kust can't really.

Taking selfless13
harmonium: (Default)

[personal profile] harmonium 2013-12-18 04:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll admit that I'm a bit wary of broken mirrors and ladders. ;w;/ But the thing with that is that I'm just wary of them because it's good to be wary of those kinds of things! For safety reasons. It's not really because they're bad at all or it makes you unlucky, it's just that those situations are things you should be expressing caution for.

I'll be taking curepeach13!
commandant: (FABULOUS!)

I actually didn't even realize it was friday the 13th until someone brought it up AHHA I'm not superstitious at aaaaaall. Nothing for serious anyway.

I haven't had much superstitions for myself since at most I'm just careful with what I do rationally, but I know my mom has had notions of being superstitious herself... for example, never taking pictures when someone is asleep or sleeping with the mirror facing the bed, having certain numbers on the number supposedly bringing bad luck, etc... it was nuts!

forgot to take a 13 card oops..! uhhh let's make this one mystery13 ♥
