Advent Calendar Day 11

DAY 11: Food!

I come from a family of foodies, so this topic is rather near and dear to me. I want to hear about food! Whether it's the holiday-specific special stuff you always have this time of year, or just something that isn't for the ~holidays~ but that you always like to eat in December (i.e. "it's finally perfect soup weather"), tell me what you look forward to eating all year! (Recipe sharing not required, but if anyone feels inclined to do so, I know I for one will be taking notes!)

For sharing your thoughts, you may take either one choice card numbered 11, OR two choice cards both numbered 01! Just note what you're taking and you can go ahead and snag it, no need to wait for a reply from me.

Yes! Christmas Eve we all go to my aunts house and my one cousin always always makes a Pernil for the occasion and it's just the best tasting thing. I seriously don't know what magic he works on it but it is always delicious.

I don't really have anything that we eat typically around December, but my mom says she's making us huge heapings of Pho on Christmas day so does that count?

I'll be snagging Yatagarasu01 and Lionheart01, thanks!

Ahhh my favorite thing about this time of year is the sweets! I'm a sugar lover, so things like chocolate covered pretzels, cookies in christmas shapes, especially frosted ones... There are a lot of drinks I love too! Starbucks fall drinks and winter drinks are my favorite (salted caramel mocha don't judge me......) and hot chocolate is great when it's not 100 degrees outside...

I think the main thing I like about the holidays is the candy haha. I love mint chocolate candies and peppermint flavored chocolate candies and whatnot, and the seasonal coffee drinks? I'm always too broke to buy a good deal of candy, though; I need to start hoarding those seasonal reeses ahaha.

I really miss when I used to make snowball cookies for Christmas. D: And gingerbread houses, too; I used to feast upon the frosting like nobody's business. It is, however, a really good excuse to make poultry! I dunno, maybe sometime I'll try making snowball cookies again. ...And chocolate poffins. B)

FOOOOOOOOOOD oh god I love the holidays just because of the food. My family cooks up a lot of warm food this time of year and I just sort of feast on it because I'm like a big baby when it comes to cold and nothing makes me feel better than just some warm food in my belly, whether it be a big dinner or just some hot cocoa

Oh man, I love winter food so much! Seriously, one of my favorite foods is soups, so cold weather makes the perfect time for them... And since I've gotten a panini maker, adding that to my soups has been great! I made a great one after Thanksgiving with leftover turkey, avocado, and bacon and it was suuuuper yummy, for example. heck yes winter food

it's summer here, so it's all salads and barbeques in december. that's also pretty much christmas dinner in my family, because it's always too hot to have a roast or anything like that. i do love getting to eat candy canes through december, and eating plum pudding and custard on christmas day.

Aside the fact that december is all holiday oriented, it's also the month of my birthday. and that means CAKE FOR IT... and that means the caloric bomb that's nutella cake - where I shouldn't eat it, but I can't resists LOL

And with the fact that I'm finally moving to a decent apartment with a decent stove.......... I'M SO gonna do cookies and muffins and then EAT THEM ALL.

Winter time has some pretty good food. Not as good as fall, which is my favourite food season, but it's still nice. I will run far and wide to track down roving sweet potato vendors though, as soon as I hear their recording. Nothing beats a freshly-roasted sweet potato!

Also oranges and strawberries yesssssss all the vitamin C will be mine!

Usually I look forward to the Christmas/Thanksgiving dinners we have towards the end of the year, if only because there are certain things we only make during those times. My mother's stuffing balls, sweet potato bake, turkey and ham..!! Homecooked food is the best, and sitting around the table with everyone enjoying everything is an experience that can't be beat.

Honestly, religious winter holiday food is mostly about the cookies for me! I'm really excited this year because the cookie prep has mostly been handed over to my mother and I. While most of the traditional food my family consumes around the holidays I… actually dislike or have food sensitivities towards, the cookies have always been something I'm excited for. And I love making them! So getting the winter cookie responsibility is great.

Holidays and winter mean Russian teacakes! Traditionally my family keeps them in tins in the garage because: 1) they're really good when chilled, 2) that way the whole tin doesn't get eaten in approximately ten minutes by a single person. Also I drink tea constantly during the cold weather, but to be honest, I do that during hot weather too.

It's funny that you mention soup, because it turns out that's exactly what we eat! It's actually a tradition for us to eat orange soup on New Year's Day, for health and good luck (that and it's delicious).

I know I should probably be mentioning actual food, but... I love the holiday season for the treats. Hot chocolate, cookies, and popcorn... Especially what I look forward to is the gingerbread hot chocolate they started selling at iHop. It's incredible.

I think fall is when all the best food comes out, in no small part due to that being harvest time, but Christmas's approach brings along with it some pretty delicious things as well! I really look forward to Starbucks brining out it's winter drinks (ginger bread & caramel brulee lattes and peppermint mochas.) Anything with gingerbread is guaranteed to be delicious, though, and peppermint goes well with anything! Especially chocolate. Peppermint oreos are pretty much the greatest thing to ever exist.

Of course, hot chocolate is a classic winter drink as well! I always look forward to it getting cold enough to warm up with a mug of hot chocolate, topped with tons of whipped cream. The left overs from fall--apple pies and other baked goods--are really enjoyable as well.

I'll be taking sayo01 and successor01, thank you!

I adore gingerbread cookies and almost anything with gingerbread in it anyway - basically, I love gingerbread! XD It tastes the best in winter, especially in December, but I could eat it all year around. There's also Christmas chocolate with gingerbread, almond, some fruits and Christmas-y spices in it. I ...most likely eat it mostly for the taste of gingerbread in it, except it's kind of good anyway.

I've seriously in things involving carrot this fall, so I'm looking forward to carrot casserole. We might also make a carrot cake, because why not even if it's not Christmas food. Also looking forward to whatever my mom and sis come up from plums this year, and rice porridge (tastes the best during Christmas time, haha) aaaand any kind of salmon, that we are probably going to eat, when I get there. Basically, I go to spend Christmas with my family and I'll eat stuff that my fiancee doesn't want to - or in most cases - can't eat, and then I eat them for her too. Food is a huge part of Christmas because mom always makes so much everything and we at least try to eat it all in a week.

Let's not forget hot chocolate~! It's amazing during winter, I almost wish I could drink it all the time.

Ohhh, almost forgot my choice card. I'll take catmask11~! :D

Oh man December makes me so happy because hot chocolate is constantly on sale and there's caramel brulee available at Starbucks!? It's one of my favourite drinks there but I guess that's drinks-wise and not really food -- I love the huge family dinners that my family throws? It's kind of like Thanksgiving where we have turkey and the works, but still delicious regardless ♥

besides our usual big family holiday dinner, one of my favorite ~december dinner dates~ is taking my grandmother out to see a december blockbuster (last year we saw the first hobbit movie, this year we're seeing the second) and afterwards we go out to our favorite korean barbeque place.
