Advent Calendar Day 10

Day 10: Mascot Characters!

Already the 10 day mark in the calendar! For today's day, which is... kind of late- /sobs/ -I'd like to hear about what kind of mascot characters you like! What sort of personality do you like in them? How about appearances? Favorite? Least favorite? Do you like them extra cute? Or how about overly sinister? Just generally give your opinion on them and let us know how you feel about these furry characters! ( unless of course they aren't furry. Haha. )

For answering this question you will receive 3 random new release cards! These will all be from the December release! You have until December 31st to get your answer in!

And thanks to Kuri for making my banners for me since I'm graphics inept. ; u;

I guess it depends on the sort of mascots?

Like the Mokona from Tsubasa/xxxHolic are super cute and helpful (some of the time) and you've got some mascots that help you transform in the Precure fairies and helpers so that really can help out too! I'm not really a fan of the mascots that flip sides or have an ulterior motive *coughwishgrantingribboncreaturescough* but I guess to each their own!

My mind goes straight to Pikachu when it comes to mascots, haha. But I love cute creatures, especially if they're helpful and needed (like, actually needed, not just being a cheering squad) and loyal! \o/

I like them cute but not, um, cutesy? Sarcastic or teasing is fun! I'm forgetting his name (Jacolo? Something like that), but the ferret from Shamanic Princess is a good example. I think I'd like to see mascot characters that transform into weapons -- has that been done?

Haha, I don't think about mascots AS mascots at all, to be honest! But guess I like the normal cute kind of mascot, like Chi from Chi's Sweet Home and Pikachu, for example. And then there's Nyanko-sensei, but I don't think that's a type I like, but rather, Nyanko-sensei is too awesome for me not to like him :').

I guess I like cute creatures? Cute and fuzzy or just cutsey in general? haha I don't really know- my mind goes to things like Pokemon or like... Ryo-Ohki when I think of mascots. Cute furry creatures.

I love mascots, honestly. Esp if they have really adorable designs that you just want to own as a plush or keychain! My favorite mascots from the top of my head are hummy and candy from the precure franchise! they both have their own distinct personalities and are just as likeable and developed as the girls themselves. I know Kyubey gets alot of flack bc lets face it he's pretty despicable but he's one of the most interesting antagonists and his design is really adorable and perfect to lure you into a sense of security. OH and let's not forget about Luna. She's quite possibly one of the most well known and iconic mascots, but she's not just there to be cute, she's a very important character for the plot (without her we wouldn't have the story for Sailor Moon would we?) And she's probably also what started my thing for black cats, ehe.

For me, I'd have to say that my favourite types of mascots are of the creepy-cute variety; Monokuma from Dangan Ronpa and Zero III from Virtue's last reward, for example. The fact that they both make puns in regular conversation about the animals they're based on is a plus too. I wonder what this says about me as a person...

Mascots, huh... Honestly, I don't usually treat them any different from any other character. If they're cute, that's nice, but that doesn't mean much if they're so annoying as to not be able to stand them, and generally they're better if they're, you know, plot relevant.

Though, I have a certain fondness for Dragon Quest's Slimes. They're just so adorable oh my gosh~ ^^

I just… really love non-human characters in general, but my favorites would have to be the ones that get a good deal of depth and character development despite being the cute merchandise movers. Chopper from One Piece and Teddie from Persona 4 are two of my favs. <3

Eeeeeh not the most fond of mascot characters. I love cute things but...well I guess I'm not as taken in with that kind of cute? Or maybe I'm just too aware that they are the specially designated mascot character, so it takes away the charm for me. I like it when they are more integral to the plot tbh. I think my favorite would have to be Kyubey just because he ended up being so despicable and you wouldn't think he was at first.

I really don't like mascot characters! In order to appreciate them, though, they definitely have to be cute. Being animal-like, especially like a cat or bunny or something cute, helps me to like them though. But most of the time I find them obtrusive.

I've always liked mascots that makes little slick comments while the hero is trying to fight lol If the fight or situation is a little too serious, it's good to have that mascot lighten the mood just by being cute or saying something funny.

[personal profile] ex_painter182 2013-12-11 06:51 am (UTC)(link)
Most of the mascots I like are cute. Erm. Like the Mokonas in CLAMP and Nigou, the pup in KuroBasu. It's definitely a bonus if they're cute and cuddly. I don't think I remember any sinister mascots... at least not right now. Least favourite is probably the Haros from Gundam Seed? They're pretty... useless. :|a And uncute. (Man, I sound so superficial BUT cmon, mascots. :x)

Hmm it depends on the type of mascot, I think! Ones like Pikachu or Noishe from Tales of Symphonia are really cute and sweet and I enjoy their presence! The first is a main part of the story while the latter is more of a minor touch and I love both... Then ones like Corrine from ToS are cool too. Generally I either really like them or feel pretty indifferent towards them!

I was literally just talking to someone about how much I don't like mascot characters, haha. But a few I do appreciate include Suppi (CCS), the fox squirrel from Nausicaa, the tube fox from xxxHOLiC, Zero III from VLR, and Inko (Toradora). Mieu also grew on me eventually c': I love non-human support characters (Friender, Koromaru, etc) though!

I like cute critters but somehow I'm not that into mascot characters. I think the fact that I like so many series where mascots don't really fit the tone at all probably plays into that, though; it's hard to imagine a place where a cuddly mascot would really fit into some things I like at all. (Though in Final Fantasy Tactics, some of the monsters you can lure into your party are pretty cute. And most people just do that to poach them. Sob.)

I am super fond of Jack Frost from Shin Megami Tensei, though! As dark as Megaten is, Jack Frost does seem to fit right in without much trouble. And his many variants and relatives are great (I wanted to do a special deck of them but there aren't quite enough, even with the ones nobody cares about from Soul Hackers...)

JUST LOOK AT THAT FACE. o////o

im not all that into mascot characters! kyubey was cute, but had the kind of personality youd expect from something that didnt understand human emotion and worked purely on logic, but then youve got pikachu and the rest of the pokemon with humanlike personailities... so, im not really sure! if theyre cute, theyre cute, i dont feel strongly either way! /o/

I LOVE LOVE LOVE mascot characters! Ones with really cute designs that either have super awesome 'true' forms (Kero from CCS) or have really cute designs that contrast with their spunky nature (Happy from Fairy Tail) are my favorites! I'm a sucker for tiny, cute things with lots of depth.

Honestly, I so don't care for them... Most of the time I'm completely ambivalent to their presence in a show, but also the types of shows they're in are generally not my cup of tea, haha! I can't think of any of my favorite shows that have a mascot character minus Utena, but even then it's more like "oh it's there" rather than actually caring much. This is such a non-answer and I'm sorry lmao!

If they are round and fat or pudgy, I will adore it forever. Think jigglypuff or mokona or other blobs. BLOBS ARE THE BEST.

[personal profile] sal 2013-12-11 08:41 am (UTC)(link)
I've never paid much attention to mascot characters. Most of the time I'm indifferent to them, but I guess there have been a few exceptions where I either think they're super cute or they're supportive to the characters around them and do good things for those characters and in return that helps me start to like the mascot character a bit.

[personal profile] maesterlicious 2013-12-11 09:39 am (UTC)(link)
Mascots are super hit-or-miss with me. Ryo-Ohki? I loved her. Luna/Artemis/Diana? Adored them. Pikachu? Not... my favorite. And hell, I'm not even that big of a fan of Kuriboh (GASP). Sacrilegious for someone that loves YGO as much as I do, I know. It really just depends on how they're important to the series itself as well as it... can't be too cute I guess? I've grown out of my OH LOOK EVERYTHING'S CUTE since Ryo-Ohki and the Sailor Moon cats of my childhood, haha.

I'm not sure I really understand the appeal of "mascots." To me, a good mascot is also a fun character. A good example of this would be Mieu from Tales of the Abyss or Pikachu from Pokemon (in the early days, he was hilarious, but then he just...lost that, idk). I don't tend to think of them as mascots, then, unless they're literally just a cute face for merchandise...

I don't think I'm really answering the question. I'm not entirely sure when a character becomes a "mascot," either. I guess I'll say Mieu is my favorite and that answers one of the questions. /o/;;

[personal profile] anruik 2013-12-11 11:05 am (UTC)(link)
I do like when cute mascots subvert their looks to be unsettling or unexpected in some way even if they're not incredibly violent or sinister. I don't have any preference fuzzy or not.

I get annoyed with mascots when they're used to fill in some cute requirement and don't have a valuable part in the story despite taking up a significant amount of screen time. On the other hand it's fine if they're just there to be cute and are just sometimes around or are used as a sort of light mood between heavier moods. I guess how I like my mascots depends on how they're utilized.

I actually am not super fond of mascot characters! I think they're cute and they give a necessary comic relief in series, but more often than not I really don't care that much unless they have a huge role and are super prominent in the series (like say Luna in Sailor Moon). SO I GUESS I LIKE THEM RELEVANT.
