Anniversary Day 6

If you haven't yet, check out the friending meme in the trade comm and get to know other players!

Villains! Sometimes they want to destroy the whole universe and sometimes they are players on the opposing team. Sometimes they have sad past that made them what they are now and sometimes they are just evil because they can. Sometimes they work alone and sometimes they command whole army.

Do you like villain type characters or maybe do you feel about them like the main heroes do? Who is your favorite and which type of villain do you like the most? For answering, you can take a choice card featuring a villain as well as celebration06.

Just like with other Anniversary games, this one is open until June 30th

Honestly, I'm always confused about villains because I never know what or who really counts as one so I'm just gonna take kidnap01 and be on my merry little way.

Villains, villains, I love villains!

All kinds of them, though I really like when they have some actual motivation, as well as swag I mean style. The Affably Evil kinf of bad guys. I often find myself rooting for them, though when the heroes aren't bad as well, I can be on the 'good' side while still liking the villain.

Favourites would include Sephiroth, Vayne and Seymour from Final Fantasy games, Adachi from P4 (LOL SPOILER), Ace from 999 (LOOOOOL MORE SPOILERS), Heihachi from Tekken, Treize from Gundam Wing (if you count him as a villain?), Minamimoto from TWEWY, Giovanni and Team Rocket from Pokemon... yeah, too many, I know.

Let's take... Freeshooter06.

I'm extremely fond of both Kirei Kotomine and Hazama

I tend to like the villains who have absolutely no remorse, whose actions are done because they're sadistic jerks. Idk why, I just think it's a lot harder for them to be woobified if they've been shown to be insensitive dicks throughout the course of the series. I think it's more interesting that way, really.

If I do end up liking a villain, I prefer morally ambiguous ones or people who do "villainous" things out of a lack of choice or what-have-you. But even then, I don't really like most villains lmao...

... I'm not even really collecting any villains, what the heck. Taking Headmaster04 -- he kind of counts, right?

DID SOMEONE SAY VILLAINS?!

I love villains! I usually find their motivations much more interesting than those of the main characters/heroes... while heroes tend to focus on morals like justice for the sake of justice, I find that villains tend to be deeper than that. I have a particular affinity for those who just are evil because they're bored. Maybe I'm horrible for this, but that's how I feel =w=

Taking BlackKeys05 because dumb Kirei expressions are fun :3c
triacedia: (Shiratori's life sucks)

No matter how stylish and witty the villains could be, I don't really consider the nameless masses they inevitably slaughter any less important than the named characters and therefore usually consider them horrendous assholes. Therefore my favorites tend to be the types that, even if they don't constantly agonize over what they're doing, at least recognize the deaths they cause as a serious matter with heavy consequences. ...Well, that, or fallen heroes who went crazy from too much exposure to all kinds of evil... and a few random villains who are both comedic and presented as horrible people and usually delight in the fact. Ladd Russo from Baccano and Katsuhiko Jinnai from El Hazard come to mind, at least, albeit in somewhat different ways.

Guess I'll go with lunatic07.

[personal profile] asuna 2013-06-07 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
i can't even think of any straight-up villains i like right now because any i've liked is actually an antihero or has gone through a redemption arc, so i guess i'm with lita on this one??
EDIT: WAIT. GILLIAM. FROM ZKC. i like gilliam.

taking sound07, he's a member of an "antagonist group" so he kinda..... counts, right? he's an asshole that wouldn't think twice about killing someone just because he hates them, at the very least.

I refuse to write an extremely complicated book here! Uh... I love some of them, and then I hate some of them. One example from my favorite series; Kimblee and most Homunculi from FMA manga/brotherhood are amazing, Wrath, Father and most of his minions are not. I don't know, I just find Wrath and the others boring and annoying - but I'm still glad they were in there, because they made the plot cool.

...I can't even think of many villains right now. But it would be really complicated if I tried, because mostly it depends on the character. >.<.;

Taking unchanging06 - because Akito from Fruits Basket is definitely a villain in that series, but also my favorite character from it.♥ Yes, Akito does terrible things, is a mess, and all that. But I love that backstory, and the character, and most villains definitely don't make me feel for them like Akito does.

I really like the charismatic, trollish villains who talk too much. But even then, the way fandom tends to turn to much and act like they're just misunderstood kind of freaks me out. X_x

I also really, REALLY love villains who default to good, although I guess they're not villains anymore then. They usually wind up being my favorite characters.

Taking okama03. Remember when Mr. 2 was actually a really terrifying antagonist? XD

[personal profile] hanabichan 2013-06-07 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know why but all villains that I like seems to redempt one way or another and be on the hero side.

I reaaly like the charismatic and psychological type, not the one who comes and fight.

Taking mist02

[personal profile] oriaon 2013-06-08 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
Villains make series all the better :DD I tend to really like the opposition, especially if the series goes into why they do the things they do, and ultimately lead you to go "Oh, they're human too" and not just merciless monsters.

Taking exchanger03! This is the sort of villain I like; steals a Pokemon right at the introduction, portrayed as evil, evil, evil, evil, and then BOOM! Back story sympathy :D

[personal profile] paladinsky 2013-06-08 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
I love me some villains, but there is something about anti-heroes who are brilliant that I totally adore. Lelouch from Code Geass comes to mind. Then I like the good-hearted bad guys who are confused. Like they start off bad and end up hanging with the good guys for a while and then become confused on which road to take. That sort of thing. Or the ones who seem off-beat and out of the blue turn on our adventurous group. And then everyone goes out of their way to bring him back to the good side.

Lastly must mention Dhaos from Tales, he's just a total badass.

Taking Zero 01. Thankies!

I don't think I have a type of villain/antagonist that I like, I'm fine with any kind as long as they're at least a little interesting to me? But I tend to like villains in YGO series a bit more than the main characters, though a lot of them end up as good guys. So maybe I like that kind? But maybe only in certain types of shows.

Oh, though this might be pushing it, I do really like rival characters/teams a lot, even if a lot of them aren't all that antagonistic.

I'll take crest01!
admiral: gwendolyn → odin sphere (Default)

[personal profile] admiral 2013-06-08 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
I love a well done, complex villain but sometimes all you have to do is make the antagonist strangely endearing and it doesn't matter how shallow their motives are, haha. Like someone above mentioned Ladd from Baccano! who you shouldn't like at all realistically but it's like, impossible to dislike anyone in Baccano! come on. Usually though the antagonist's motive has to be something better than "destroy the world" because that gets really boring really fast.

But yeah two of my all-time favorite antagonists are Azula from Avatar and GLaDOS from Portal so that basically says everything you need to know about my favorite kinds of antagonists.

I'm taking reins09, thanks! (Because how much did I love Cid from FFXII? A whole bunch, that's how much. Forget the actual antagonist from that game, pffft.)
nightomare: ♣ (♣ faize)

[personal profile] nightomare 2013-06-08 06:31 am (UTC)(link)
I don't have a soft spot or favourite type of villian, but some of my biggest biases are villians. (SPOILERS) Faize from Star Ocean: The Last Hope and Junko Enoshima from Dangan Ronpa are definitely favourites. I love the development of Faize's character and his eventual fall, while for Junko, I love her design and she's just plain crazy. Kizami Yuuya from Corpse Party would be another one as he's psychopathic and he makes the game a whole lot more interesting.

Taking eldarian01!

I love villains. They are my favorite part of a series. I like the sadistic type. The ones that would stop at nothing to have everything go their way. They make the series so much interesting. Some of my favorites are Muraki Kazutaka from Yami No Matsuei, Aizen from Bleach, Rokudo Muruko from Hitman Reborn, Wesker from Resident Evil, Adachi from P4...my list could go on. T_T

Taking illusions03.

I like different kinds of villains :
- villains that joins the hero like Vegeta from Dragon Ball, Sait from Kenshin and Greed from FMA Brotherhood, Luxus from Fairy Tail
-psychotic villains like Kimblee from FMA, Makoto Shishio from Rurouni Kenshin, Kefka from Final Fantasy 6
-Anti heroes, like Lelouch from Code Geass

Generally, I would say that I side heavily with the protagonist of the story so my disdain for the villain would be on the same level as the protagonist. But there are some cool and chill villains, one of which is hisoka.

So, I'll be taking villains04, thank you.

My favorite most hated villain is Foedus Obrepit Errabundus from Etrian Odyssey. (ノಠ益ಠ)ノ彡┻━┻

I'm fond of villains that cause psychological distress, characters like Envy from Fullmetal Alchemist and Medusa from Soul Eater; redeemed villains; and the pure evil villains, like Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty.

Taking demonqueen02.

I generally enjoy villainous people, but the one who comes to mind when I'm meant to talk about them is Darcia from Wolf's Rain. He's just... ahh, wonderful, and his cosplayers are always impressive, but he's fantastically flawed and deeply disturbed, and he plays at normalcy for ages before going completely off the deep end.

... Sadly enough, most of my other series don't feature straight-up villains, but I'm always up for an anti-hero. Now, since I took villains07 earlier this week, I shall instead claim... centurio13! Gulcasa: the boss that doesn't die. o>

You know, I never really thought about villain type characters before... I think a lot of series I watch or play are somewhat ambiguous when it comes to bad guys. Like, they might be designated villains by the narrative but they're not actually villains if that makes sense?

Don't get me wrong! I feel that they should be held accountable for their actions, I don't like saying that they're misunderstood and then forgive them instantly. I think the villains I like the most are the ones that are full of personality and that you can love because they're a villain rather than in spite of it.

I really like villains in general! This comment contains some spoilers.

My favorites are the ones that don't really harm anyone. The useless ones with grand delusions of conquest. Photon's Papacha is the best example I've seen so far. He was the only reason I wanted to watch Photon anyway. He was totally worth it.

I have a weird soft spot for actually psychotic serial killers. My favorite is Ryuunosuke from Fate/Zero. He starts killing people out of sheer boredom and thinks it's a super cool thing. He feels no remorse and is just an all-around happy psycho. There are quite many cases like him in the one-shot horror manga series I read. They're intriguing, but usually not likable as Ryuunosuke.

Misunderstood antagonists often have me on the edge. I guess Pokemon Black&White's N is a good example? He has good and understandable reasons for doing things that seem bad. I feel that the main character's aren't always the good guys - Death Note's Light is a prime example of that.

Brainwashed villains are kinda cool too. Digimon Frontier's Kouichi fell into a coma in the real world and was brainwashed into a villain in the Digital World. He had to fight against his own twin brother etc. It was surprisingly deep for a series aimed at 10yos. Inazuma Eleven had similar stuff happen. First there were kids who were brainwashed into thinking they're aliens and they destroyed schools and such. Then the main team's old players, the main character's old friends and some other kids were brainwashed into thinking that the main character betrayed them (or something idk) and they fought.

Then there's Agito from Air Gear. He starts out as a surprise villain. He doesn't like the main character and kinda wants to kill everyone. His other personality (or actually Akito is the main personality and Agito is a sidekick) is really gentle and caring and deeply in love with the main character. He joins the main team's side, forcing Agito in with him, so he... becomes one of the good guys unwillingly? He still stays on the edge of being a villain. It's complicated. He kind of warms up to his teammates eventually, but still keeps his distance. Akito is the only one that matters to him, so he would turn his back without hesitation if needed. That's why I'll be taking shark01.

In a way, I'm not concerned which side a character takes, just so long as they're interesting and well characterised. But then again, I think I do tend to get drawn towards certain types and, if I'm honest with myself, I have a rather large soft spot for villains. Particularly the emotionally broken and/or flamboyantly evil kind.

This is with media in general - looking through my manga and anime collection, I seem to veer towards the slice-of-life type series that don't tend to have villains at all!

It sorta depends on the character for me. My favourite villains are smartasses, pretty much -- if it's witty and arrogant and the kind you'd want to punch on the face I will probably love them!

I LOVE VILLAINS, I LOVE THEM SOOO... My favorite villain forever is Van Grants from Tales of the Abyss. I feel he really managed to straddle the line between being an understandable sympathetic character and being a magnificent bastard very well. His motivation for what he was doing was understandable, his reasoning was very flawed and yet very compelling, and his methods were fantastic to see play out. He's the sort of villain that views himself as a sort of necessary evil, as he recognizes that what he is doing is horrible but very earnestly believes that the alternative is worse. He's also a charismatic leader who is exceptionally talented at finding people like him and bringing them over to his side, sometimes through honesty and respect (such as Largo) or outright manipulation (...pretty much the rest). He does so many terrible things but those acts come out of two mixed desires; revenge for what he had lost and a hope for humanity that has been horrendously twisted.

And gosh that makes his sound like he could be damn close to just being a misguided good guy with some revenge issues BUT WHEN HE IS TERRIBLE HE IS DAMN TERRIBLE. He is the villain that spends seven years grooming a boy to be manipulated and used at a pivotal moment and then will throw him away without a second thought, while laughing in fact. He seeks to control people for his own ends, even those he likes to a lesser extent, and just...seems to primarily interact with the world through emotional manipulation. He almost always is putting on an act and simply isn't the man to be trusted.

...I played this character through various RPs for six years for pretty much every reason I stated because he is a damn fascinating character. I love other villains too, really! But Van Grants is just my absolutely favorite and will likely stay that way for a long time.

BECAUSE OF THAT, I'll be taking hod01 when the deck is released to get a jumpstart on collecting Van cards.
