while I'm getting everything set up, I notice that January's release post happened like 2 hours after I got this note. Does that mean I can only do january or can I do both jan and dec?

Unfortunately, I don't think it'd be fair to other players if you got December release cards after January release went up, since it wasn't a "I have my logs all set and just haven't been updated on the website yet" sort of situation. I hope you can understand.
