Advent Calendar Day 8

Hey everyone! I can't believe it's already time for the Advent Calendar again. This year has flown by for me!

The holidays are upon us, which means that in our house, the TV is usually turned to a Hallmark Christmas movie. I feel like that's all my mom watches this time of year, and they just...keep...making...them. But I guess Lacey Chabert and Danica McKellar need to eat, so. Which brings us to today's topic: Do you have any favorite holiday movies, shows, anime, etc. that you like to watch every year? If so, what makes it so special? Do you get together and watch it with your family? How did you get introduced to it? This can be for any holiday, not just winter ones! (I always watch episodes of Are You Afraid of the Dark when I'm getting ready for Halloween.) Or if you don't have any favorite holiday-themed movies/shows, is there anything you tend to watch every year, just for fun?

Comment to this post with your answer and you will receive one choice regular 08 card and two random specials! You can go ahead and take the choice card as soon as you post, just don't forget to say what it is in your comment and log it!

Like the other Advent Calendar posts, this game will close on December 31st!

I don't really have any Christmas related specials that are tradition for me or anything but hooo boy do I love Halloween specials. Everytime we get closer to it being October once more, I get in the mood to watch every single Halloween themed or Horror/creepy movie like the Nightmare before Christmas, Beetlejuice, Hocus Pocus you name it!

okay that's a lie. I watch creepy stuff all year round but you know what, Halloween is a great excuse to just bingewatch it all because all the spooky stuff everywhere just puts you in even more of a mood.

Every year I really really love to watch Jingle All the Way, with Arnold Schwarzenegger scrambling to get a doll for his kid on Christmas Day. I used to watch it with my fam all that time, and I think it honestly captures the intensity of Christmas shopping quite well haha. I don't remember how I got introduced to it, but I do remember owning the VHS copy for the longest time, and it's been a little tradition in my family for the longest time too. :3

Back in the day I distinctly remember watching a Disney-themed Christmas (? I know it was holiday-themed) special that I don't recall the name of now...but now I don't usually watch anything special. (I get too lazy when I can't follow things at my own pace.) I do watch the 2nd season Sengoku BASARA OVA and the first episode of Kamigami no Asobi every now and then when I need some laughs, though. |D

I'll take kem08, thank you!

I watch some of those Hallmark Channel Christmas movies. (ʃƪ¬‿¬)

I look forward to watching the Doctor Who Christmas Special every year. January also marks the start of a lot of new seasons and returns of series. LIKE SHERLOCK. Been waiting forever!

Every single year, I watch Christmas Vacation with my family. I've been watching it ever since I was about 8 or so. It's a family tradition, and it never gets old. For specials, I usually watch How the Grinch Stole Christmas with my mom.

It used to be Rise of The Guardians, although I don't really watch it every year, it does come around to one of the movies that I tend to love a lot ;; I'm not into the habit of watching movies during christmas because so busy ;; ROTG is sort of the movie that warms my heart in all the right ways (also Jack Frost and Bunny actually acknowledging each other omg) Not to mention the cast is wonderful;; and the OST (It's either that or the classical Sailor Moon Movies, or maybe Studio Ghibli because who doesn't love Ghibli)

But other than that, I do watch Elementary (although it's not really a movie idk) I'm kinda boring tbh

I'll take pediatrician08! :) Thanks!

I always watch some version of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer as well as any Christmas/New Year special (usually Detective Conan has one every year).

Muppet's Christmas Carol because it's the best telling of A Christmas Carol I've ever seen and I doubt I'll ever get bored of it. Also, the songs are amazing.

I'm afraid to say that I do not have any holiday favorites. Though around Christmas I always feel like it's time to reread Hogfather by Terry Pratchett. I wonder if I have it or if I left it in storage...

christmas kinda lost its magic for me over the past few years, so the only christmas media i consume is christmas anime episodes :')))

my mom watches this every year though, so i sometimes watch it as well. can you believe this movie is almost as old as my mom? she basically grew up with this!

It's not really Christmas if The Muppet Christmas Carol hasn't been on at least once in my house! The same thing goes for Scrooge (the songs in both films are A+). Other than that we don't really have any movies or shows we watch every year? We just kind of watch the ones that are on TV at the time.

I just marathon stuff during late November and all of December since I have more time and don't feel like getting up lmao. There's a Harry Potter marathon on like every month now lol but I always watch the December one. I also watch the Simpsons marathon but that's more during Thanksgiving so I'm not sure if that counts? And actually, right now I'm watching a Star Wars marathon on TV haha. As for actual Christmas specials, I watch the Spongebob one lmao since it's always on and whatever else my siblings pick because once my sister gets here from upstate, she, my brother, and I just spend the days we're all free watching Christmas specials or movies together.

None at all, unfortunately. ): Probably because I never was the type to celebrate Christmas that much. My dad loves to watch the movie "Elf" whenever it's on, though. He never gets tired of that thing.

I try to watch The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya every year... it takes place in December, so it definitely fits the season. It's also one of my favorite animated things ever and I'm just an emotional blob whenever I watch it, no matter how many times I do, LOL.

Hmmm No. I dont have any movie we like... watch every year, nor show nor any of that. I mean, there is stuff i rewatch all the time, but nothing id say i watch every year :x Not for winter, not for any other holiday orz I guess the closest thing is every halloween i try to watch this groups videos, cause they release hallween themed videos every year. but thats about it, they are always different... so its not the same ones?

may I have crazyd08?

ahaha my mom is like that with the christmas movies too and i'm just ??? have you ever seen the one where this guy gives a lady a magic brooch that lets her hear what everyone else is thinking because i swear that one is on EVERY DAY and my mom watches it every time. i like seeing how many times people can possibly adapt a christmas carol though.

anyway my favorite christmas movie is Iron Man 3 and I usually use halloween as an excuse to watch hocus pocus and/or an addams family movie. my family used to have more stuff we'd watch traditionally every year but now we're just lazy.

Honestly I don't really have any traditions where I'll watch the same movie or something every year...! However, I do always end up watching at least one classic Disney movie leading up to Christmas, or on Christmas Eve, just to feel a bit like a kid again with that Disney magic. :3c

I always watch the Muppets Christmas Carol this time of year - and usually How the Grinch Stole Christmas (the cartoon, not the live action). A particular version of the Nutcracker is usually on, too (it's old - but I like it because there is actual narration, not over the ballet, but between acts and stuff). They're all kind of childish, but that's fine - it's the stuff I watched as a kid, and I usually manage to watch one or two of them with my siblings which brings back a lot of memories.

It's not christmas until I watch Elf and The Grinch Who Stole Christmas (yes the awful live action one) with my mom. We also watch The Year Without a Santa Claus, Muppet Christmas Carol, and White Christmas. It doesn't quite feel like christmas unless we watch at least some of those together. :)

I used to watch the old timey Christmas specials every year, but I don't really do that anymore. Rudolph was always a favorite. Now it just feels like I don't have time. I kinda miss it.

As every person who lived in Poland during the last 25 years, I've seen the first two parts of Home Alone almost every year, whether I wanted or not. For more personal traditions, we have a Soul Calibur tournament every New Year's Eve :D

(no srsly im not shitting you about home alone)
