Advent Calendar Day 16!

Day 16: Promote a favorite series of yours!

Hello, everybody! Are you enjoying the Advent Calendar event so far?

Do you constantly see unloved cards of a series you just know is amazing sitting in other people's trade piles? Are you a fan of a canon that gets a bad rep? Or are you just itching to talk about this neat, obscure thing that none of your friends seem to really be into? Well, here's your chance to tell the world why it rocks!

Today's theme is to promote a favorite series of yours. A long time love or a new flame -- all are welcome here! What aspects of it make it so awesome -- the characters, the plot, the art, the music, anything else? Where could we learn more about it that you didn't cover in your comment, or perhaps even play/read/watch/etc it ourselves? Anything you want to promote a series you love, you're welcome to do!

Answering this will earn you one choice card and 2 random character cards. Have fun! This round, like all the others, concludes December 31st.

Since I'm collecting decks from it and about to nab a card from it, I feel it's only right that I take the opportunity to promote Futari Wa Pretty Cure Splash*Star.

I know we already have some Precure collectors on here, but Splash Star is, in my opinion, a really underrated series and one that even fans of the franchise can overlook. It seems to get passed by a lot for being one of the older series and for the characters looking a) like cookie cutter remakes of the original Pretty Cure duo, and b) have really hideous magical girl designs.

Pretty Cure is a magical girl franchise, of which around 95% or so of the installments never made it over to be officially licensed in America. It's an extremely positive and often bright, funny series that still has some real narrative heavy-hitter episodes sleeping in there somewhere. And they're usually incredibly physical fighters, which leads to some great battle choreography. Like most of the later seasons, Splash*Star has some central thematic elements--mostly focused around nature and the spirits of the world and in ordinary objects. It's the third season but only the second team of girls ever released, and I won't say it's without its bumps and troubles.

But it's really great!! Well...I can't say much about the spiky 80s glam magical girl designs, but Saki and Mai are both really enjoyable characters with sweet personalities and a great partnership. It's cute and funny and has some of the most interesting characters in the franchise! The villains are almost all incredibly funny. And speaking of villains, it features of the the franchise's earliest and best done villain-to-hero development arcs.

So if you like cute partnerships, fairly sassy talking mascot characters, and girls magically wailing on villains who want to destroy everything by using natural forces for evil, it's a great ride, and a good introduction to the franchise, imo!

And there's a dance ending from before they started doing the extreme MMD models.

Taking curiosity20!
