Colors TCG 5th Anniversary - Day 15

I apologize for the delay here!

Today, we're going to talk about music. What's your favorite song from a game or anime series? Is there a particular composer you really love? What song would you like to hear remixed? Let's talk about those.

For participating, you'll get fivetastic15, two random new release cards, and a random crayon. As an apology for my being late, you can also take a character choice card numbered 15.

Like the other anniversary posts, this game will close on July 1st at noon GMT!

Oh man, I love so many anime and game songs, you don’t even know. But I’ll try and limit this to a few favorites... somehow. ;A;

WHITE DESTINY - YOKO ISHIDAPRÉTEAR
I grew up on dubbed anime and dubbed theme songs, with all their charm (Pokémon) or lack thereof (most others). Prétear, lent to me by a friend, was the first anime I ever watched all the way through in Japanese, and its opening was the first anime opening I fell in love with. I actually went to Borders (this was when Borders still existed) and bought the CD (which they luckily actually happened to carry). This song has been with me since 8th grade, so when, many years later, I was listening to it and realized I could actually understand most of it, it was an unmistakable sign of how much my Japanese had improved. I still really like it.

BUTTER-FLY - KOUJI WADADIGIMON ADVENTURE
Kouji Wada has, impressively, performed nearly every Digimon opening theme (six out of seven series) despite an ongoing battle with cancer. I honestly think they’re all great songs, but Butter-Fly is the first one I ever heard, and it's my favorite. Even though I grew up with the Digimon dub, this song somehow manages to hit all my nostalgia buttons every time, and there's just something so infectiously hopeful about the "OOON MYYYY LOOOOOVE" ending. Also, this is the first song I ever did at anime con karaoke, and it helped bring me and my boyfriend together. So there's that.

MY-PACE DAIOU - MANZOGENSHIKEN
An underrated song from an underrated show. I have immense love for songs you can just shout along to, and My-Pace Daiou delivers. It's also relentlessly optimistic, full of Japanese wordplay, and just a lot of fun. I don't have too much to actually say about this one, except that you should listen to it, because it's great.

THE ONE STARTHE WORLD ENDS WITH YOU
The World Ends With You has my favorite soundtrack of any video game. So of course I chose a song that isn't on the official soundtrack. But it's in the game, so there. I have no idea what it's about - but then, this is TWEWY, so I have no idea what any of the songs are about. All's I know is it's full of emotion and I love it.

DAY OF THE RIVER - JOE HISAISHISPIRITED AWAY
I figured I ought to have a pretty instrumental in here after all those energetic, shouty songs. If you've seen Spirited Away, you know just how beautiful and powerful its music is, and if you haven't, why the hell haven't you seen Spirited Away, what's wrong with you? But even without the context of the movie, I think this song is still emotionally affecting, just from how pretty it is. There's some major heartstring-tugging going on here, is my point.

KUMIKYOKU NICO NICO MEDLEYNICO NICO CHORUS
Does this count? I hope this counts. It’s a medley of somewhere around 30 anime/game songs, remixed and covered by members of the Nico Nico Douga community. Fun and catchy as hell, and I feel super accomplished every time I finish singing along to it. It’s my dream to do this for karaoke someday, even though it’s way too long and not a proper anime song anyway. Maybe really early on con morning when no one’s in the karaoke room.

That’s... probably enough for now. Time to go listen to everyone else’s songs!

hive15 for a choice card, please!
