COLORS CHAT #15

It's time to sit back, relax, and pour yourself and ice cold glass of... milk. All these games are so great and fun but everyone needs a chance to just unwind and talk. So welcome to Colors Chat!

Here, you will get a topic and you can talk about it all you want. Just listen to your heart and write what you feel like. For your six sentences, you'll get 5 cards. And you should always go around and talk to people, see if you can make new friends or old friends with new light on them or you know, just talk with everyone! It is a chat after all.

Today's topic:
Things you are into that you know aren't very good but you like them anyway? What's it about them that keeps you entertained? Or do you not have any guilty pleasures like this and stay away from what you consider to be low quality?

To encourage disussions between players, there's a bonus - for every conversation that is at least 5 comments long
all participants will receive two random cards.
This is not limited, so talk to as many people as you wish!

Please keep all comments civil and polite. You might disagree with someone, but please do not start a flame war. THANK YOU and enjoy your weeks!

This round closes on Sunday, June 1st

Oh gosh, the thing I find difficult about this topic is that I don't necessarily know that the bad quality things I'm into are actually bad quality O_O So really, who knows... I have found some anime I watch lacks movement, and mostly it's just stills with sound over it rather than any actual animation going on (after a while, I found Prince of Tennis to do this quite a lot, especially with it's zoomed out shots of a match going on) but at the same time, the anime itself is, in my opinion, excellent, so it kind of cancels that out. But most anime that I think is bad quality (I won't be specific XD) I just don't watch, because I know I won't like it. But it doesn't mean other people won't think it's great.

As for non-anime related stuff, I can't read a bad quality book or watch a bad quality film, though my opinion on its quality is purely that - just an opinion. Music would probably be where I'm mostly likely to fall culprit to it. If someone asks me what genre or artist I like, I have trouble answering because I really will listen to a lot of different things, depending on mood. Sometimes that involves stuff that is bad quality or at least considered 'socially laughable', like cheesy pop songs from my childhood or music that drives people crazy, like Nyan Cat.

Mostly, I think what I'm into is good, otherwise I probably wouldn't like it... but who knows, if someone were to go looking through my anime, games, films and books, they might say I'm the most uncool person ever XD

I never noticed that about Prince of Tennis, though it would help if I watched it recently. Though what do you consider bad quality? I'm very curious.

Nyan Cat, I wouldn't call bad quality, but it's annoying at times. The endless loop one, which I'm sure exists somewhere. (I'm sorry but not sorry because this is what I wanted to reply to.) I must ask, because I associate people liking Nyan Cat with this song, but do you like Pon Pon Pon?

Ha, I definitely don't consider Prince of Tennis bad quality, but yeah, I was very annoyed at myself when I started to notice it because I couldn't stop noticing! I was like "MOOOOOOOVE characters!" O_O It's not an all-the-time thing, but once I started to pick up on it, it seemed like it was constantly happening.

I can't describe the parameters by which something becomes bad quality, but I think it's a mixture of design and plot/characters... for example (and I apologise in advance) I can't stand One Piece, because although I know nothing about the plot, I can't stand the design! There's that guy with beady eyes and a demon grin and I just can't watch him, it just makes me twitch. Then there's so many people will hate me Naruto, where although the design is better (dude who looks like he chose kitty at the face-painting fair aside) I tried watching an episode of two ages ago and didn't like the plot and characters. At the same time though, I know they can't really be that bad quality because they're so well known and loved by other people... and this is also coming from the girl who can't watch angsty anime that much and therefore loves Ouran High School Host Club and Princess Princess, so... what do I know. I can't really call anything bad quality, because there's always someone who likes it and thinks it's great. It's all just opinion, and mine isn't always a good one to go on XD

I don't think Nyan Cat is bad quality either, but I'm the only person I know that will listen to it on repeat as if it is an actual song, as everyone else gets too annoyed. I have quite bad OCD habits, including when I hear music, I often rock in my chair to the beat of the music, and songs like Nyan Cat are actually kind of perfect for that, so that's my excuse =^.^=

And I can't break your association, sorry. I love Pon Pon Pon. I will listen to any J-pop if it's that happy and bouncy, it's like my thing. The only thing I don't like about it is the song/album picture that came with the song. Eeeessshh. O_O

Maybe the wind was blowing softly and they all paused for dramatic effect. I didn't even notice that the first time I watched it. (Admittedly, I was probably 11 at the oldest and thought all animation was like God's gift.)

Those two are probably your hit-or-miss anime; you either like it or you don't. (Very few will be neutral, from what I've seen, of those who've actually really looked at it.) But for me, One Piece was first introduced by 4Kids, which makes me dislike it immensely because of all the censorship. And I do understand the disliking design part because it is weird, the artstyle, but I don't hate it. For Naruto, I just gave up. I liked it, but it became too big and too much, and I went, "Fuck it." (And now looking back on it, I realized that I didn't even really like it... Maybe the characters, but not the series.)

There are many other J-pop songs that are good for rocking back and forth to. Wide Knowledge of the Late, Madness does keep a certain beat and is pretty consistent, but it's creepy. And I can tolerate the song, Nyan Cat which was originally by Miku under the title Nyannyannyan, for the first five minutes. It either becomes static or annoying after that. And Pon Pon Pon, for me, was creepy and something from an acid trip. (Maybe the song would be better if I didn't automatically see parts of the video in my head every time I listened to it.)

It might be a case that you'd notice it if you re-watched it now. I certainly never noticed it the first times watching, but only picked up on it when I was watching it again recently. I might have just watched quite a bit of anime since the irst time I watched PoT, so it's more noticeable now, or maybe the stills thing is just me, who knows. Even just them running on the court in a match, or when one of them does a signature move, it's often a still of the ball and the opponent's face all "what the hell just happened" rather than actual movement. But like I said, might be me.

Ahh, they're a Marmite kind of deal. I think if a show does get too big it can be off-putting. I had a 'can't be bothered' thing with Bleach for that same reason. My friend was begging me to watch it, he's obsessed with it in too many ways, and I just look at the hundreds of episodes to get through and I'm all "...pffffft I'm good." Even though he assures me I'll like it, it's just too big of an anime now to bother with.

Most songs in general have an okay beat, as long as it is consistent, I'm okay. My step-dad described it as meditation once, because I just completely zone out and daydream (this is where my pairings and ships live haha) so I guess I don't even pick up Nyan cat gets annoying because I probably don't even hear it properly when I'm daydreaming. Who knows >.> I also can't get that video out of my head when I listen to it. The first time I watched it I was just so confused as to what was going on O_O Now that's creepy haha >.<

It's probably not only you, if that's what happens. I don't even remember getting to the part where they have supernatural moves. But now this makes me want to rewatch Prince of Tennis; I now added a(nother) really long anime to my "should watch during long summer break."

Bleach, I had a love/hate relationship with it that spoiled to a "despise it, oh my god, I only like two characters, and one is dead with the other being MIA." It ended, the anime, so you can slowly catch up (but the fillers...) I guess this is why I read manga over watching anime; I can probably read faster than it moves on the screen.

I still suggest getting other songs (*cough*let me rec songs from the Vocaloid fandom*cough*) for that. I cannot completely zone out with songs, but I do sort of do that with Nyan Cat, which is weird... So my daydreams come from "I should be listening to lecture... nah." My ships... I think it's a huge polygamous relationship which is everyone/everyone because that ends up my OTP. And I would really love to like Pon Pon Pon, with the interwebs loving it, but the video is just so creepy. And seeing it play continuously in a store wasn't wonderful either... (I cannot forget the song because of that.)

I've heard so many bad things about Bleach fillers, it's unbelievable, I can only imagine, gut I've heard people be unhappy about that a lot with that particular anime. It can be difficult to stick with an anime if there's very few characters you care about, too. I found I had that issue when I tried to watch a couple of the episodes... I just didn't care what happened to any of them, so what was the point? But I'm so picky about anime sometimes that I might not have given it a proper chance, who knows.

I'm always up for trying new songs, especially anything J-pop or anime related. I used to be really good at hunting down happy bouncy J-pop songs that I liked, but now I just don't look around. It's one of the reasons Neku's Music Station is so awesome - whether I can answer the question or not, I still get introduced to some new songs! I've always had trouble finding Vocaloid songs I like though >.> I'm glad I'm not the only one who can zone out and daydream with some music ^_^ It's super relaxing... unless it's Pon Pon Pon haha!

The filler arcs are sometimes longer than the main arcs, I think, but I don't care for it (not that I hate them... for some other animes.) I used to like many characters, but I felt that they got progressively worse as time went on, but that's just my opinion. I think I'm worse with anime because I'll read anything, but then I'll just go, "Meh, not worth it." Actually, that's for manga. For anime, I have to have been recced it, preferably multiple times, seen good reviews by other people and like the plot summary enough to give it a chance. If not, I won't watch it.

Happy, pop sounding songs: I automatically thought that anything Easypop would be wonderful (for Vocaloid songs.) Happy Synthesizer (I feel) is a happy, pop song. Though I think I'm the worse when it comes to reccing songs like these because my favorite Vocaloid songs are creepy, sometimes rock, songs. But there's a song for each genre of song/music, I swear. Kikuo also falls into this category, as long as you're not fluent in Japanese and you don't look up the lyrics.

I never minded it with prince of Tennis, because they weren't really filler arcs and more just random trippy episodes every so often, and it was always super funny or cute. But with Bleach it sounds like they had such a hard time managing the pace between the anime and manga that there's just filler everywhere. But I've never watched it far enough in to see any of that so it doesn't bother me either.

I'm not going to lie, I loveddddd that Happy Synthesizer song. ♥ I've never heard Gumi or Luka before but that song was much more tolerable than some other Vocaloid voices! It's gone into my Youtube playlist, so thanks ^_^ Happy J-pop songs make me happy. There's a fine line between getting happy bouncy songs and going into shrieky chibi-girl j-pop which can be annoying, but when it's right (like the Vocaloid one) then it's just fantastic. =^.^=

If they were only like an episode long, I think I wouldn't dislike the fillers. Though I think the main problem for Bleach was that the anime moved faster than the manga and it needed to fill that up with something, like you said. Bount Arc, the only one I actually went through.

...Like I said, Kikuo might be cheerful. (Until you realize the song is about cannibalism, death, etc. I mean, there's a song called Happy Death or something.) There's also Twinkle and Melancholic, which are both Rin songs. Raspberry Monster is a song I like which might fall under happy songs. And I'm glad you liked Happy Synthesizer. Gumi and Luka are wonderful, but they're usually used for more serious songs. (I'll throw Ten Faced and Akahitoha for a good Gumi and Luka song, respectively. It might not be happy, pop songs, but it's not scary or depressing.)
